Suspect of what exactly? This is an extremely simple mod, open it up in the CS and look at the code. You can even open the ESP file with a text editor and clearly see that most of the content of the file is the source of the 4 scripts used to implement this mod.
In my experience the remaster doesn't have the same issues, this mod was primarily created to avoid crashing during autosaves and quicksaves (hasn't happened to me in the remaster yet after around 70 hours)
Question: I notice that modifying Better Saves ini file does not change Link Plus defaults? Other mods that use Link - I can actually change their ini files to new defaults.
TBH I really don't like Link Plus - I don't want to spend my first moments in a new game setting menu options - I want those already configured. Link is a step backwards imo.
Sorry for the late reply, I'm aware of this and intend to fix it at some point. Though you should know, a nice feature of LINK is that it's not required to configure mods using it (assuming mods implement it correctly), you can just use the .ini files. My mod does implement this part correctly, IIRC the reason I didn't implement loading defaults from the .ini was that I didn't see the point when you could just uninstall LINK and use the .ini files directly (though in hindsight there's no real reason not to implement it).
In the past this mod disabled auto saves automatically, and I disable them in my game. However, the mod no longer modifies these settings as some might prefer to have them on; the saves created by this mod are separate, so even if you crash during an auto save and it gets corrupted (which is what led me to create this mod), the saves created by this mod should be fine.
Hey thanks - I suspected there was a nuance involved - I think I shall disable them - peace of mind for me with the random nature of Oblivion.
An aside: I am running a moderately modded Oblivion (~200 mods) BUT without global texture replacers since I use Reshade to spice up vanilla and specific texture replacers for specific objects. Also - I have gone old school - and run ENBoost (259) - PCB and with the trio of engine fixes but no heap/stutter stuff. So far two days of testing and tweaking not one single CTD or lock-up that's with fast travel and running around Imperial City and Bravil locations.
Honestly - I think the OSR and Heap stuff introduces instability - but I am running the game under Linux on a 10 year old machine lol.
i would just like to say that using this mod, MoreHeap, Oblivion Stutter Remover Optimized, Oblivion Display Tweaks, DXVK and the 4GB RAM patch all together has worked wonders for me. roaming the world and going through doors has not caused any crashes whatsoever for 13 hours so far, and i have some big mods installed like MOO, OOO, Better Cities and Unique Landscapes to name a few.
please try using all these mods! its an amazing feeling after having accepted CTDs as a fact of life for so long, i hope they work just as well for you!
Would anyone be able to explain the difference between this and Simple Saves Plus? An oft asked question i can never quite find an answer to (if there is one to begin with)
Better Saves replaces quicksaves, quick load, and autosaves. From my understanding Simples Saves Plus only replaces autosaves. This may explain why Better Saves is 4kb and Simple Saves Plus is 2kb in size. I have not used Simple Saves so I can't say for sure.
From Simple Saves Plus's description, since both mods are very similar:
This is intended as a replacement for the vanilla quicksave and autosave feature, the latter of which can cause crashes and save corruption vary rarely when it tries to save during a scene transition. I recommend you disable autosaves in the game options for this reason, and avoid using quicksaves.

bSaveOnTravel=1
bSaveOnWait=1
bSaveOnRest=1
Is that necessary for Better Saves - or irrelevant?
