I've been seeing a small graphical issue with my grass (sometimes on some of the trees also) in my modded Oblivion, i get a sort of brief 'flash' as i'm riding around and that light change is most noticeable on the vanilla grass textures. It's flashes in time to the motion of the camera and seems related to some kind of brightness levelling/smoothing that is either going on in the base engine, or possibly due to GPU settings (for anti-alising etc), or maybe mod related (I use OR and others) where visuals are changed. It's difficult to describe exactly without seeing it in action, but it is something i've been looking for a fix too.

I've gone through a few weeks of GPU setting changes, mod changes (in ini files or in game settings), trying Bloom over HDR etc, all to no real avail. Although i can reduce the degree of flashing by GPU settings - default GPU values, so lowest quality settings produces more flashing, i can not eliminate them.

I did try the Grass Overhaul mod (both currently available versions) and saw some further reduction, but the mod itself did not play well with my current mod set up, so i had to uninstall it. I like the look of the default grasses the best in truth.

Anyway i was wondering if the reason you made this mod was for the kind of issue i'm trying to describe? I was just about to go into the texture files myself and see if i could reduce the 'brightness' of the edges perhaps to reduce this problem, but maybe you have already fixed the issue? Does your mod fix the problem i've talked about?

I'm not familiar with the problem you are describing and didn't have it in mind when creating this mod. I made the mod to reduce the, in my opinion, harsh contrast of colour and brightness between grass and ground textures (in some areas).

Sorry for taking so long to answer and sadly I don't know how to fix your problem.

Much improved look for the grass, it was way too jarring before. Nice mod, I run a heavily modded Oblivion on Wine Linux, no ENB.

The manual install for 0.2 looks the same as 0.1 to me, was it supposed to include a new grass type?

Yes, thanks for spotting that! It's now replaced with the correct version.

Had to go to the User Posted pictures to really see what you were getting at, just due to the lighting. It looks very nice. I'll have to try it in game. Thank you for this.

Does it work only on the vanilla types or on mods ones too? It looks really interesting to me but I added some mods to my grass settings.

Sadly, Smooth Grass only works on the vanilla grass types I edited, not any mod-added grass. Smooth Grass is compatible with other mods that change, for example, grass length as long as they do not alter the textures of vanilla grass.

Definitely looks like an improvement to me, and it's nice to see someone showing the vanilla foliage some love. Thanks!

If anyone finds more grass types in-game that needs the same treatment, please let me know!
