I didn't look at the script yet, but I guess I know part of the problem by now. There is an open version, and a folded version. Once you sheat the weapon the open version is replaced by the folded version (which is basically a "dummy object"). If you enchant the fan, the ID of the open fan changes and the script no longer recognizes it.
Solution: Use the CS to create the enchantment you want and add it to the basic open fan. As this doesn't create a new object, as far as the game is concerned, the ID stays the same and the script still works (or at least it does for me).
to be sure not to crash, always unequip other weapons and shied, then equip these fans. It goes both ways. What's upsetting me is that after I enchant them, the script doesn't work anymore, they don't fold when I'm out of combat
Same issue as Andy1967 here, except for the enchantment part. For me happened if I unequipped and reequipped the fans, or if I gave them to a companion NPC.
Also, equipping both fans causes a third fan to generate in my inventory that can't be used and never goes away (but can be discarded). I've seen that before with offhand weapon mods, but in those cases the extra "phantom" weapon always disappears when the main weapon is unequipped or discarded. If I equip only the weapon fan and not the shield fan, the weapon uses the folded state mesh even when drawn/in combat.
I love the concept and look of them, but between experiencing the above and reading the other comments, it looks like the script needs a lot of clean-up/fixing.
The fans look fantastic (no pun intended). But I have a small problem: When I sheat the weapon and shield (or just the weapon with shield not equipped), both fans are still fully displayed on my character, and not replaced by the folded fan, as I think they should be. Has anyone else encountered this? Is it possible that the script responsible for the sheating effect gets confused because I enchanted the fans?
P.S.: Just loaded an older save and tried it again. It's weird. When I try to enchant the bladed fan I suddenly have two of them available as items to enchant, even if my regular inventory only shows one, then suddenly a third after I enchanted the first two ones. Two of them stay in the sheated version even when drawn, the third one doesn't sheat and shows fully opened instead all the time.

EDIT: No wait, it boosts Blade, nevermind.
Anyway, is it normal that when I unequip them, the game crashes?
