Keep in mind people this mod was created a long time ago for IGN's mod section (Notice the 4:3 ratio CRT) and was re-uploaded here after I did a reinstall in 2011. At the time the ATI x1950 (At $450) was the hottest card on the market and on the highest settings PC's were struggling with frame rates. (The PC showing those frame rates in the pictures was a brand new $2,800 rig of the day.) It's still a useful mod if you dislike the visibility limiting nature of Oblvion's interior fog however.
When this mod was created BOSS and TES4Edit did not exist. All this mod does is remove the heavy and light fog effects from dungeon interiors. There should be no conflicts with other mods, patch versions, expansions, DLC's, ect.
Deleted refs are super easy to fix with Tes4Edit. In TES4Edit; right click on mod, apply filter for cleaning, and then select "undelete and disable references". Save when you exit and voila!
This mod's effect could also be achieved by either removing the model paths from the references (instead of deleting the references themselves) [edit: this doesn't work, as the missing mesh marker will appear ingame], or by replacing the models with empty .nif files, which would even have been pluginless (although the first approach could be merged into the Bashed Patch). Both approaches would not require any cell edits, which would make it compatible with any and all mods.
Deleting references is VERY bad because there could be mods (and there most likely are, namely new dungeon mods) using these references, and when they can't find them because they have been deleted, they may crash the game. So, at the very least, AutoClean this mod with TES4Edit before using it - the cell edits will still be there, but the references will be restored and the objects simply deleted in the cells. If other mods use these objects, however, they will still be visible.
Edit: I quickly made this version, which uses the first (plugin-based) approach: Pherims Dungeon Fog Remover (doesn't work currently, because the missing mesh marker will appear in the game. I'll fix it with an empty mesh, soon)
I just wanted to say thank you, I suffer from incredibly bad migraines that sometimes last for days and fog in my games only serves to increase the severity. Every time I buy a new RPG I search for a fog remover of some sort, I now need to find a way to disable the outdoor fog permanently. Sure it's immersive but if it makes your head feel like it's in a vice grip after 10 minutes of looking at it then it does NOT add to the game so thank you, This mod is still useful all these years later :)
Great stuff, with tons of dynamic ShadeMe shadows + AO I was sinking below 20 around some of that indoor fog, light version noticeably reduced the volume of fog in areas i checked, but avging 30-40 in the same areas, very worth it. MUST be cleaned with Tes4edit's "Undelete and Disable References" function before activation.
This mod made my life SO much easier. I'm playing on a not so great machine and this not only increased viability but also made the game run much smoother. Definite must have for people with lower end or medium end machines.
Do you have a fog mod to reduce fog levels or completely remove fog in the environment as well? This is hard to come by I want to remove the annoying fog but there is no mod for the environment for that.
