Recently I did made some changes on how OBSE interact with Steam when  using the Steam Version. Should reduce a lot of the issue about the Application load error instances.

I will make a beta soon on Discord, if you are currently experiencing issues with Steam.

"This program can't start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I get this message when I try to launch with xOBSE, but the game launches just fine from the vanilla launcher. MSVCP140.dll is not missing; it's right supposed to be in Windows/System32. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

I installed 4GB for Oblivion to improve memory use, then I installed xOBSE which is supposed to become the Oblivion executable. If I start the game with xOBSE, will I lose the benefit of 4GB? I'm confused.

best to run the 4gb program and tell it to use the obse loader to add the 4gb patch aswell as normal oblivion

Technically, if I install the "Steam" version and replace oblivion.exe with its "GoG" version.
Do I have a Steam or GOG version for OBSE? i guess Steam but i prefer to ask.

I play in French and the Steam version is the only digital version with French voices but I would like to be able to launch my game directly without launching Steam.
I tried in the past and the launch worked but I can't remember ifit worked with the GoG OBSE and I can't try it at the moment.

    Thank you

I cant for the life of me get the game to boot with xobse installed, every time i try the game closes after a few seconds without launching and i get an error: 5:0000065434

Ive tried changing the install location to my c drive, ive tried using the obse launcher, i've tried launching via mo2, i've tried launching via steam, no matter what i do the game won't launch.

EDIT: after about a dozen times of uninstalling and reinstalling the game it randomly decided to start working.

Application Error is a Steam DRM error. The most probable cause is having OBlivion installed on  a steam library in a different Drive then Steam itself. xOBSE 22.10 beta have a workaround for that, but it may not always work

I know this is a couple months old but if you experience the error again go to wherever your steam.exe is and copy/paste it into the same folder as your oblivion.exe, then try launching oblivion, it should get rid of the error.

ps: DO NOT copy/paste the steam.exe shortcut. Idrk why, but when I was trying to find a solution for the same problem everything I found specified that you shouldn't use the shortcut for this so just don't do it ig.

I can confirm that you do in fact need to install oblivion on the drive steam itself is installed on and not any secondary drives you may set up to add more steam games.

Thank you so much for this info. I got mine to work thanks to your post. I can confirm that copying the steam.exe (actual application and NOT the shortcut) to the oblivion.exe folder worked for me.

For anyone using the Game Pass version:
Find launcher_settings.cfg (in the content folder) and open it with notepad. Then you just change the Binary Path line to BinaryPath=obse_loader.exe
From there you just have to use the launcher.exe to get the game going but its been working great for me.

This might be a stupid question, but as a better-safe-than-sorry person, what installation instructions should be followed for the GOG version of the game?

The ones for installing on a non-Steam game (so same as a disk version).

I copied the zip file to and used the installer tab on Wrye Bash. It seems to report successfully installing, but when I go to the SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Oblivion directory I cannot see any obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, obse_steam_loader.dll files in this location. Does this mean it hasn't installed properly? Is there a way to tell OBSE is working when running the game, some sort of indication?

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying I need to check this in the console to see if it's working? If so, what command do I enter to check that it is? Many thanks.
