This mod seems to be giving me problems when used with Mod Organizer 2. The mod seems to randomly swap between not working at all, and showing a bugged repeating shadow pattern that looks awful.
I used this texture as a starting point to make a 'softer shadows' version for those using bleach-bypass and/or heavy HDR settings. Any chance I can get your permission to upload it? I'd credit you of course. A preview is available here...

Is there any way to make the tree shadows darker? Like as dark as character shadows?

Ideally someone with more modding skills than me could make an .esp to switch between mine and yours according to weather, but here's hoping.
