I. Overview

Normally, Alternative Start mods conflict because they all edit the same things; Charactergen, MQ01 (modder technobabble), and put things in the same places. I came across this while modding myself and developed this solely for my own purposes: to develop multiple alternate starting mods at the same time without having to constantly switch between them.

Oblivion Common Alternative Start (OCAS) is a modder's utility that allows Alternate Starts to work together, rather than be mutually exclusive. The bonus to this approach is that it's now feasible to release one very large Alternative Start at a time, rather than forcing the would-be modder to package and release a bunch of small ones.

The game will start in a dream sequence, where the player confesses his uncertain future to a prophet, who then dissappears and unlocks a dream-like door that begins the game.

II. Installation

There are two ESMS, activate ONLY ONE. Use the default one if you're unsure.

Oblivion Common Alternative Start.esm- Default Version, includes three Charactergen Altars to create your character with, and then decide your origin.

Oblivion Common Alternative Start- No CG.Esm- No CharacterGen altars, just choose your origin right away. Useful for mods that package their own Charactergen process within the Alternative Start.

There are two optional ESPs, you can choose both, neither, or only one.

OCAS- Example.esp- An example Alternate Start using OCAS, putting the player in a position as a Kvatch refugee, forced to start from nothing. To start the main quest, head to the Imperial Sewers Outside Entrance.

(Keep in mind that this is just an example to present how OCAS works, and to have a reason to download this mod for non-modders. I don't want to hear feature suggestions for THIS particular part. I do, however, want to hear your thoughts on the actual OCAS.)

OCAS- Player Override.esp- Strips the player of all clothing, and starts the player with a small plethora of novice spells. Does not require OCAS. Use for easy Alternate Starts, so mods don't have to remove all the player's clothing.

Without OBMM:
1. Download and Extract the contents of the RAR archive to your Oblivion directory.
2. Activate the mod using the launcher in Oblivion.
3. Launch Oblivion.

With OBMM:
1. Save the RAR archive to a temporary location on your computer.
2. Open Oblivion Mod Manager; click 'Create'.
3. Click 'Add Archive" and find Oblivion Common Alternative Start.
4. Import it, including OMOD Conversion Data.
5. Click 'Create OMOD"

The ESM, by default, only packages the Default Prison tutorial. Please download the seperate OCAS-Examples files from TESNexus.

III. Uninstallation
Without OBMM:
1. Deactivate the ESM from the Oblivion launch menu and delete it.

With OBMM:
1. Deactivate the OMOD. Any associated files are removed automatically.

IV. Compatibility
This mod is incompatible with ANY Alternative Start mod, unless they SPECIFICALLY make compatible versions or make mods made for this Master.
