So I've been trying to get a long mod list going, but the game was hanging every few seconds in a weird way. The sound would continue, dialogue went on uninterrupted, but the video would pause every few seconds, and any keyboard or mouse presses would not be registered while it hung. However the game does not become unresponsive, and I can alt tab out.

After painful trial and error, I've located the problem, and it seems to be EAX. I have Oblivion EAX Beta 2 and Sides EAX control. When I uninstalled them and took Oblivion off of ALchemy's enabled list, the issue stopped. If I reenabled it in ALchemy without installing the mods, the problem returned. I tried not enabling it in ALchemy and instead put dsound.dll and dsound.ini (the latter I had to google to find) into the Oblivion directory as suggested by Oblivion EAX, but same problem again. Once I remove everything EAX related, smooth and normal.

I have a Soundblaster Omni, which is capable of EAX, so I don't think that's the issue. Anyone got a clue how to resolve this?

For people trying to use this now, the tuning fork is broken on the newest release. I had to downgrade to an older version to get it to work.

I've installed this mod but I don't get the tuning fork when I run the game. I get the EAX effect but everything sounds kinda muffled.

Can any one help me get EAX to work in Oblivion?

I installed Creative ALchemy 1.45.03 and used the MST restriction remover so I can use EAX with my Razer Kraken 7.1 headset. EAX works in my other games. I tested it in Diablo 2 and the 3D/Environmental sound works just fine. But when I try to get EAX to work in Oblivion it doesn't work.

I have the OBSE plugin installed and Side's EAX control mod installed and still nothing. I also tried it with the Hardware acceleration option in the INI on and off and still nothing.

Now, I still have not left the tutorial dungeon, so maybe it hasn't officially initialized yet. I'll report back when I leave the sewers.

So I have since uninstalled all codecs and installed just K-Lite Standard. Doing that along with removing metatags on music made EMC2 and DMS work. I installed Creative ALchemy 1.45.03 and used the MST restriction remover and activated Oblivion in ALchemy. In ALchemy, I had it point to the base directory, should I also have it point to the data folder or the OBSE plugins folder for the sub directory? I know EAX works with other games through ALchemy. I got it working with Diablo 2.

When ever I try the command initeax, I get nothing out of the console. Maybe another OBSE plugin is conflicting?

I'm going to try using my on board sound card with a standard pair of headphones to see if it works that way, but that shouldnt matter.

Does any one have any ideas on how to get this working? I got every thing else working now; ENB, ShadeMe Enhanced, Oblivion Reloaded 4.1. My game runs and looks amazing, just doesn't sound amazing, yet.

Anyone get this, or just eax in general to work on oblivion on a modern system? If so what sound card/os?

For me, enabling EAX just very quickly and severely crashes oblivion. Though it's not this plugin's fault, the game crashes without it installed when i enable eax (GX mode).

Maybe it's just my sound card, but I get the feeling reading a few replies that it's not working well on any/most cards on post vista OSses. As in the past even with a x-fi card on XP, EAX was still pretty hit and miss.

    Relevant specs:
    Windows 7
    Asus Xonar DX
UNi Xonar 1822 v1.75a r2 drivers (official ones are even less stable for most games)
with GX mode enabled: super crashy - often at the main menu, sometimes gets as far as loading a game. annoying looping sound FX result after the crash. (fixable with a reboot, or custom utility)

GX mode does work for a few select older games. Crashes some other ones.

(for those curious: GX is Asus' version of alchemy. Better in some ways as you simply click a button to turn it on/off.. But since it crashes select games or messes up the audio in others (one older game took me a while to troubleshoot - its music wasnt working, GX can break midi playback it seems), its worst in some ways since there is no per game profile set up like alchemy has)

I am having a sound problem that I hope someone can help me with. It is a problem with 5.1 Surround sound, If I have the computer set to work on 5.1 the stereo speakers work fine but the center and rear speakers don't. To be more specific the surround speakers stutter, skip and overlap certain sounds like footstep sounds. The ambient sounds are ok but if there is one sound that plays it overlaps and/or skips and stutters to play that sound; when the sound is done the ambient sound that was playing starts playing where it left off. ( Like it cuts a piece out to play another sound.)

    Here are my system specs:

    1.5TB harddrive
    OS: Windows 8.1
    5.1 Surround sound Speakers
AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series Graphics Card
AMD High Definition Audio Device (This is the sound card I guess; It came with the video card listed above. Meaning it is literally INSIDE the graphics card itself. There is no way to change it without getting a new card, but I suppose I can disable it in the device manager.)
IDT High Definition Audio Codec (Now this one is really weird; When I set my speaker configuration to 5.1 Sound and then test it. It works fine but if it is running in oblivion or any other game such as dragon age, neverwinter nights, or anything else it goofs up. But if I set my speakers to just Stereo Sound it runs perfect without any problems.)

If anyone can help me, there words and advice are much appreciated. Thanks in advance to any help any of you might give.

Update: I found out that if I look at my jack configurations for my speakers it says there are only the two stereo speakers ( Left and Right installed), even though I have all speakers plugged in correctly. Could this be a problem with bad drivers?

Er. . . I don't get it. . . The internal sound card problem is solved on windows 8.1? What in the World?! I am REALLY confused! How in the world is my sound working?! 0_0 Um. . . . OOOOKAAAY?

Huh? . . . Alright then. If any Technical support professional reads this post. Please take note!

      1. The ALT-TAB crash bug is fixed on windows 8.1 but doesn't fix the CTRL-ALT-DELETE freeze up.

      2. The Onboard sound card bug is fixed in windows 8.1 strangely enough. . . (Getting a separate sound card is still recommended just to be on the safe side.)

Ok then problem NOT solved. . . The Menu sound doesn't play and the game sound DOES. It switched when I updated my codec drivers. Just ignore my last post. . .

So the problem is 3/4 of the way solved. The ALT TAB crash bug is still fixed on Windows 8.1. Although there is another way to bring up the task manager in windows:

      1. ALT-TAB to go to the desktop.

      2. Right click the taskbar and click on "Task Manager"

Problem solved. You can remove these posts if you want to, because I ordered a sound card on Monday and is to be shiped within 5-8 days within ordering, so it is coming Friday or later. Everyone else can continue posting. . . *sigh*. . . just ignore my posts.

Just wanted to add that this mod seems to be incompatible with the very popular Immersive Interiors mod (normal city interiors are getting very much bigger in II, but so does the EAX effect). I`m trying to fix it via the INI of this mod.
