This is something that is more than a decade overdue.
Due to real life circumstances, some beyond my control and some self-inflicted, I was forced to give up modding for an extended period shortly after the mod was released. The planned patch which was after half done never made it out.
Windfall will, by design, make alterations based on what the player does. Some of those changes will be seen immediately, other will not be seen until much later in the questline. My documentation on how everything interacted was lost over time. Without it, I was unable to pick up work on the mod again. For that I do apologize. It was my intention to support the mod for at least a couple years after release, as I had done with my Morrowind mods.
Tidus44 recently reached out to me about posting some pdfs with a walkthrough and some spoilers. You will find those in the download section under Misc Files. All credit for those goes to Tidus44.
There was another walkthrough that used to be on Info Barrel. The site has since closed, but someone did post a link to what looks like a saved copy of the section about Windfall. The link is below, it is not as easy to read as Tidus44’s PDFs. But I will re-post it if you would prefer that.
A personal note: My father passed away while the mod was in the making. I left a small tribute to him in the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. I don’t think I even told the other members about. Just wanted to get that out.
To those that did, thank you for playing the Windfall, I do hope you enjoyed it.
I have had this tracked awhile. I played it in 2011 and have been planning a new play-though. I was shocked when I seen there were file updates. Thanks for providing. I'm curious if you also plan on release the patch you mentioned had been in progress, or perhaps a fresh one. Thanks again.
How do you join any factions ? I mean I guess I found how to join the varo's knights but I've been searching for hours for the righteous and I cannot find them ! Where is the npc that starts this quest and recruits me ?
Fiord Club Fist for the Righteous is in the Thirsty Peasant; Volen Harbento for Varo’s Knights is in Brend’s Barrel. They will usually be in the bar or their room.
Tip: several of the the topics needed to start or advances quest have disposition checks, so be prepared to use the persuasion mini game.
where can I find the walkthru ? because I have it downloaded with vortex and I am not good at looking in files, also I'm stuck at the part 'a traitor' (from the righteous side) because I cannot find any bandits at the south like Ozkar says- I am stuck and it is driving me crazy lol
I imagine this mod was quite the staple back in its time. But, I'm afraid, some of its aspects didn't age all too well. Given the situation the author described in the pinned comment, the issues this mod has are understandable.
Without including any significant story spoilers, I will say that the writing, while definitely serviceable and witty, at times is predictable and at some times is questionable. Like, for example, finding the people in hiding in the very beginning does not amount to anything unless the associated quest comes by. Can't report them, they don't seem all panicked abount getting found. I understand why was it not addressed, as making something of this size must've been time-consuming.
The other complaint I have is some of the quests. And it's not so much the lack of direction, but the lack of safeguards. For example, it's very easy to break the diamond retrievery quest if you decide to drop the item from your inventory to, say, get a better look at it. From this point on, I couldn't turn in the item the normal way, bar the console. Another quest I have an issue with is the raid on a goblin cave, where you must retrieve an item and avoid killing a Warlord. Question: which one of the 6 or 7 goblin warlords is the one I should avoid killing in order to get the best outcome? It wasn't given a unique name, and while some players might play this quest on low levels, I've had the misfortune of playing it in the lategame, and even with balancing mods, Oblivion, by its nature, keeps spawning high-level goblins instead. Again, not necessarily a mod's fault, but an issue nonetheless.
Of course, the worldspace and the general story are still quite solid and interesting, and figuring things out yourself does feel pretty nice. That is definitely the charm this mod has and it is rather inspiring, despite any complaints I might have.
This mod was a very enjoyable experience. I was able to achieve, in my opinion, the best ending, with as little bloodshed as possible and a peaceful resolution. The story was so very interesting, with many characters getting a genuine reaction of surprise, shock, distrust, laughter, and excitement. The writing was interesting, though the walkthrough was a requirement in some locations, but it was worth it for a very interesting storyline. I quite enjoyed it, and will probably play it again, as I started the conflict on one side, and switched to the other, and would love to see the conflict through the opposite path.
Playing this mod rn and enjoying it a lot! Just some nice balance between complexity and simplicity, nothing feels too difficult but not too easy either. Also interiors are well made, overall it has some sort of vanilla+ feeling, like some sort of an upgraded version of Oblivion cities and quests, but with more variety and choices and less markers. IMO that is a good thing.
I have my personal issues with some of the quests and decisions though. For example, it seems like a bad idea sometimes to make small quest items appear ON, or near, but not IN the containers. Oblivion has a quirky physics and it can cause issues with finding them. Also it would be a better idea to shrink parts of the main city in size, too much free space, especially in the Commercial zone.
Overall a cool mod, can recommend it. My advice to anyone giving it a shot is to use walkthrough guide from time to time, some of the find-an-item quests can be problematic without it
At the very beginning, Jude didn't follow me to the cave and after asking him to follow me a few times, eventually I went alone. Now I've returned from Windfall with the Choice quest in my journal but I can't find Jude anywhere. I need to give him the letter from his father and finish his quest, can someone tell me what to do? Like some spawning console command or fix.
I read in the walkthrough that if both Brend and Stilus surrender that you will be named count. I have completed it without Stilus or Brend dying and yet when I spoke to Glorvin he only named the Hero of Windfall and gave me an ebony weapon of choice. But he did not mention anything about me being able to use the count's room or being the count. He said that he will rule as Regent. So I'm confused. I did everything possible without killing killing anyone. So How do you get to be the count ? If anybody can answer this please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
That would not be possible without a full review of you actions in the earlier quests that set o increment variables for the ending. Obviously some requirement was done on a less than optimal basis. You will just need to review you memory of earlier quest with the walkthru to see which increment you missed.
If you have skill with the CS, you can look up the quest and global variables involved, set them to you satisfaction with the console, and go back to a save before talking to Glorvin at the end. The place to start would be the dialoque topic which would make you count, and check the conditions for the topic.
Help needed. I have completed the third quest for the righteous ( The Sewer), reported back and have been promoted to Radical. However the next quest giver Marvel Roland is nowhere to be found, not at the inn ,his room or the docks. is there someway I can fix this, perhaps through a console command? Thanks guys.
The walkthrough says he usually can be found at Thirsty Peasant. But if you have trouble finding him, you can use the console command player.moveto <RefID> In this case it would be player.moveto 01049390 (replace the initial 01 with the mod's place in your load order.)
(FormID: 01049390 WFMarvelA NPC_ Marvel Noland)
Probably it'd be best if you saved the game, used the console command to locate the NPC, reloaded the game, and went there to meet him.
Thanks for the assistance maczopikczo. I have tried the console command: player. moveto "02049390"however each time I try this I am told that 02049390 is an incorrect reference. Perhaps you would be so good as to check that reference for Marvel Noland? the 02 is the mod's esm place in my load order. mEANWHILE i am finishing the minor quests and enjoying a well made mod. .
I remember I used to do it quite often, but can't remember now how exactly... But are you sure he's not at the Thirsty Peasant? For me he always sits in his room on the first floor.
Nah! tried everything, spat in his beer, slept in his bed , rummaged through his drawers, ate his porridge, but no show. perhaps anybody else out there playing Windfall could open the console and click on him and pass on his refid. Perhaps I could move the quests on, but I think it takes at least three more to leave Roland! Maybe it was meant to be and I should just go and make my own of Windfall! Still, Tubbia deserves some support! Is'nt it strange? Of all the billions who inhabit the planet, surely someone has a passing acquaintance with that worthy Marvel Noland co The Thirsty Peasant, Windfall, Tamriel.
Okay, I actually fired up the game and... I'm sorry, I've been giving you his Base ID when what he needs is Ref ID (in your load order it's 020170d5). Also the command was slightly wrong. What you need to do is go to 3rd person mode, click your character - at the top of the screen you'll see your name and (your) Ref ID. Without clicking anywhere else type in the console: moveto 020170d5
Should work. I've just tested it. Let me know where he's hiding from you.
Hey Maczo, you are the Man! It worked perfectly. I found Marvel wandering in the north of the island. He was just being attacked by a minotaur which I helped to slay. We had a short chat and he gave me the next quest. So off to work, hi-ho, hi-ho! Thanks again for taking the trouble to help. You deserve to be made a freeman of Windfall.
This mod, along with Dibella's Watch and The Lost Spires, are by far my top most favorite questline mods! In fact, I like this one the most as Windfall is in it's own worldspace and feels like a true medeival adventure quest mod!
Now onto my question! I'm trying to find the NPC whom I'm suppose to turn in Ramonicus items over to for a reward! I know he's somewhere in Windfall, but for the life of me I totally forgot where he was in this playthru! So where is this NPC at exactly and what is his name?
