So I've been trying to get a long mod list going, but the game was hanging every few seconds in a weird way. The sound would continue, dialogue went on uninterrupted, but the video would pause every few seconds, and any keyboard or mouse presses would not be registered while it hung. However the game does not become unresponsive, and I can alt tab out.

After painful trial and error, I've located the problem, and it seems to be EAX. I have Oblivion EAX Beta 2 and Sides EAX control. When I uninstalled them and took Oblivion off of ALchemy's enabled list, the issue stopped. If I reenabled it in ALchemy without installing the mods, the problem returned. I tried not enabling it in ALchemy and instead put dsound.dll and dsound.ini (the latter I had to google to find) into the Oblivion directory as suggested by Oblivion EAX, but same problem again. Once I remove everything EAX related, smooth and normal.

I have a Soundblaster Omni, which is capable of EAX, so I don't think that's the issue. Anyone got a clue how to resolve this?

Can any one help me get EAX to work in Oblivion?

I installed Creative ALchemy 1.45.03 and used the MST restriction remover so I can use EAX with my Razer Kraken 7.1 headset. EAX works in my other games. I tested it in Diablo 2 and the 3D/Environmental sound works just fine. But when I try to get EAX to work in Oblivion it doesn't work.

I have the OBSE plugin installed and Side's EAX control mod installed and still nothing. I also tried it with the Hardware acceleration option in the INI on and off and still nothing.

Now, I still have not left the tutorial dungeon, so maybe it hasn't officially initialized yet. I'll report back when I leave the sewers.

So I have since uninstalled all codecs and installed just K-Lite Standard. Doing that along with removing metatags on music made EMC2 and DMS work. I installed Creative ALchemy 1.45.03 and used the MST restriction remover and activated Oblivion in ALchemy. In ALchemy, I had it point to the base directory, should I also have it point to the data folder or the OBSE plugins folder for the sub directory? I know EAX works with other games through ALchemy. I got it working with Diablo 2.

When ever I try the command initeax, I get nothing out of the console. Maybe another OBSE plugin is conflicting?

I'm going to try using my on board sound card with a standard pair of headphones to see if it works that way, but that shouldnt matter.

Does any one have any ideas on how to get this working? I got every thing else working now; ENB, ShadeMe Enhanced, Oblivion Reloaded 4.1. My game runs and looks amazing, just doesn't sound amazing, yet.

It should be enough to put Alchemy files into base Oblivion directory. Perhaps you'll find something of help here? https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/307742-eax-difficulties/
Or maybe try Nexus mod's troubleshooting forums.

So from that thread, I set both ini settings to how they should be. I also reinstalled OpenAL and OpenAL Soft to enable OpenAL in games. Still nothing. Trying to disable UAC now to see if that was blocking it. For some reason it's not using OpenAL when I launch the game. But EAX works just fine in Diablo 2.

I went ahead and reinstalled OpenAL and made sure to install OpenAL Soft correctly and ran the info file and it says OpenAL Soft on my Razer Kraken 7.1 is the default renderer. Set up the config to 48khz, etc in the ini in app data, and copied the data sets to the correct folder. Gonna test the plugins out now.

When I enable Oblivion in Alchemy it makes all the 3D sounds sound very low and muffled and hard to make out but still no reverby effects. When I remove Oblivion from the list of Alchemy enabled games it sounds normal again. My Creative sound card supports up to EAX 4 and I have Windows 7 if that matters. I dont have any other games that support EAX so I cant test it with them.

Sorry if this is a necropost, but I also have the same problem. I have an Audigy SE sound card, which should have EAX support (I think it's something like EAX 3.0). I'm running this on Windows 7 64-bit (which I suspect to be part of the problem). I suspect the muffled sounds have something to do with ALchemy, as they don't show up until I enable it. Running commands such as initeax or seteaxenv -1 25 have no effect, and neither does changing the console EAX volume. I am also running this with Side's EAX Control, and that doesn't seem to do anything when changing sound effects automatically either. My card's drivers don't support any option to change the EAX volume without first enabling EAX system-wide, so that hasn't been an option. Is it perhaps that I have bad drivers or just a clunky sound card and need to get a different one?

Also, I don't think I have my XP disc lying around anywhere, so I don't think I'll be able to do a dual boot.

    To Nezichned,

Maybe you could try using Creative Alchemy (which should be bundled with your sound card installation CD, if not google for it, it's a free download).

This appplication adds DirectSound & EAX support under operating systems that do not support them, normally.

Even though WIndows XP is DirectSound-based, the game does not give EAX instructions, unless the sound card is running in OpenAL mode. This regime of operation allows the card do communicate with the game, directly, which is a necessary prerequisite for EAX support.

Just add Oblivion to the list of Alchemy-Enabled games, although you are using WIndows XP. No matter what others say, at least try it! (The missing files which you created manually prove that OpenAL is not working, and therefore no EAX...).

Hello, I am looking forward to using this mod, but I am experiencing a problem.

I have windows XP. I am using this mod in conjunction with Side's EAX control, and I am not getting any results. Are there any tricks to installation that I missed? I have obse 18 installed, and my game is patched with the latest patch.

Here is the hierarchy: (only shown with related pieces)
    Oblivion
-obse_loader.exe (I run oblivion through this)
    -obse_1_2_416.dll
    -obse_editor_2_2.dll
    Data
-Obse (I added this myself because it wasn't there)
--Plugins (I added this myself because it wasn't there)
    ---OblivionEAX.dll
    ---OblivionEAX.log
    -INI
    --Side's EAX control.ini
    Side's EAX control.esp

I read through all the readme's, for Side's mod, and this one, and I tried everything I can think of to get this to work. My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, and supports EAX. I am not sure what to do, could somebody please help me?

    Hi,

I'm still using Windows XP, so I don't need ALChemy and have installed an external Creative Soundblaster Play audio accelerator. Whem I'm installing this pluggin and try to initialize it by typing "initeax" in the console, the game instantaneously crashes. Any Ideas what's going wrong?

Cool mod, any chance of updating to Openal or EAX HD, that would be very cool. Anyway keep it up.

That's cool news, because even if you don't have access now, it means it might be gotten to work eventually. :rockout: <img class=">
