SHORT DESCRIPTION Replaces all corn in the game with a retextured variant of the "Alocasia Fruit" from Shivering Isles. The alchemy effects remain unchanged, as does the actual editor ID (i.e. "corn"), meaning if you already have corn in your inventory it won't disappear upon using this mod, it'll just turn into "Passion Fruit".
This mod is purely cosmetic. I don't know if there are any quest item corns in the game, but if so, this mod doesn't touch them.
LONGER DESCRIPTION --- OR, WHY??? Call it a personal preference. I realize the continent of Tamriel is fantastical and therefore transcends any rational idea we might have about what it "should" or "should not" be. As has been said many times, you have lizards and cats walking around, so don't talk to me about "realism!" This is true, but by the same token, we the gamers must decide what we find believable or welcome and what we don't. Cats and lizards? They don't bother me (or I should say they didn't bother me in Morrowind when they actually WERE catlike and lizardlike). But a new world veggie like corn in an otherwise "old world" setting? That bothers me.
There may be other new world ingredients in Oblivion as well (not sure if pumpkins are old or new), but it was the corn that bothered me the most and thus the corn I set my sites on.
A NOTE ABOUT REAL PASSION FRUIT For all I know, passion fruit itself may be a new world fruit. I just don't know. I'm not an expert in these things. What I DO know is that my green retextured fruit doesn't really resemble the real thing. Furthermore, if you look in the file folders, you'll see I called it "Valenwood Passion Fruit". So in doing this I'm attempting also to add to the lore: my passion fruit was imported by the Wood Elves, and the Imperials loved it so much you can now find it almost anywhere in Cyrodiil.
INSTALLATION Follow the file paths and install in your Oblivion Data folder.
BUGS AND CONFLICTS No bugs. The screenshot included with this file is from the Merchant's Inn in the Imperial City. Where corn once sat on your table of free food, my new green fruit has replaced it. Nothing exploded ... my PC didn't blow up, so this was a good sign.
As for conflicts, just make sure you don't have any other mods running that change corn and you're good to go.
I make no guarantees that presenting a cute Bosmer girl with a gift of Valenwood Passion Fruit will get her to marry you ... or anything else. (Are there actually any cute Bosmer girls???)
PERMISSIONS The fruit is yours. Do with it what you wish, but please provide credit if you'd be so kind. :)
