Excellent mod! Using this with "Got No Class" by tejon to make the leveling system more like skyrim in that there are no classes and every skill contributes to leveling up.
Small downside: This is NOT compatible with sashton043's alternate start. The one where you fill out immigration papers and choose occupation, hobbies, etc. It levels up certain skills to apprentice level based on what you choose, before you ever choose your class. For some reason this breaks nGCD's leveling system. Idk why. Level progress bar doesn't budge and no matter how much I train up my skills it won't let me level. Not a dealbreaker though, I switched to alternate start in Anvil and the problem went away. Kind of sucks as I liked the immersion of the other one, but nGCD is faaar more essential. I can deal.
Well, nGCD and Progress do different things, and can be used together.
Progress affects how fast your skills advance, and then nGCD affects how those skills influence your character's level and attributes.
The newer versions of nGCD require Fundament, which, among other things, has a newer version of Progress built in. So if you're going to use nGCD, you might as well use Fundament for your skill advancement needs.
Now, if you meant to ask which is better of this or Realistic Leveling, I'd say it comes down to taste. I've read opinions statings that Realisitic Leveling is more suited to jack-of-all-trades characters, while nGCD is more suited to specialists. nGCD is very configurable, however, and you can tailor it to your needs.
Well, some people still prefer Progress because Fundament seems a bit complicated. Generally you don't need Progress as well though, no. Stick with Fundament.
Is this mod causing me to have delayed skill increase message? Ie when I hear a skill increase, it takes 5-10 seconds for the onscreen skill increase message to appear.
Master tejon, will you be updating scripts of your mod to be less cpu heavy? I've just seen that you updated the mod's description, so wanted to ask whether your return to modding is possible at all.
I really dislike the "Computers are sufficiently fast that any level of optimization isn't worth my time" trend.
The Fundament framework is a perfect example of this, with a large number of its functions being redirects to already well documented functions. Other "short scripts" can easily be merged into your scripts and be moved elsewhere and save a plethora of cycles (fdGetPlayerUnmodifiedAV, you only need to gather all spell effects ONCE; not 32 times). Frameworks should offer significant improvement (and yes, Fundament suffers from very poor structure as well ), not just offer a few functions that could be merged with a program.
Other aspects, such as recalculating EVERYTHING from scratch each time is just poor programming. You calculate what has changed and modify based on said value; (floating point precision REALLY isn't a big deal for such small values, and you have access to high precision functions with OBSE.)
*Sigh* I only downloaded this because I didn't feel like writing it myself; hopefully no problems develop, hence requiring me to go ahead and start from scratch. But this type of programming was why Galsiah's mod crashed all the time, (that, and blatantly commenting "I know this can cause problems, but I don't care enough to patch it"). I can see a large amount of room for improvement, if you tried... but, this is the times. *sigh*
*** Okay, Fixing patching, and getting things working the way they were suppose to looks like an obscene amount of work. This really IS "NOT" GCD. Other than a small adjustment on skill influences, your "base character" really doesn't have a large effect :S. Actually (annoyingly enough) you also seem to count the skills from 0 rather than start, meaning that you'll get influences you don't really want.
Seems more so to be a "I'm not sure how things work" type of change though; so much of this is tossed together with most of the script being rather dysfunctional. I mean, given how little you're doing I cannot understand why you're doing so many calculations. Again with basic optimizations, but it seems obvious now that a significant amount of code can be removed without changing functionality. ***
Wow, really? I never used this long enough to figure out if it was working at all really, but now that I'm considering using Synchronized Date and Time, I wanted to try it again, because I'd like a leveling mod that doesn't require you to sleep to level up. If this mod will cause more wacky problems like COBL Races giving me birthsign powers from other birthsigns, then I don't think I want to use it. (I also use Birthsigns Expanded, which uses Fundament, could that cause problems with COBL Races?)
Are those issues adressed in the top comment fixed in the last versions of the mod? They are no doubt newer than the date the comment was written, so there's a possibility for that. I played Oblivion with tons of mods somewhere about a year ago and had a lot of stutter problems and gave up in the end (used all possible fps mods I found). In the future I'm going to take bigger care which mods I use and reading about few issues here make me quite not sure about it.
However it has changed since then through the obligatory requirement of Fundament, I only endorsed the version I knew and that was the original stand-alone version, not the Fundament version, I only wish there wars a clear distinction between the dependent and stand-alone version, sadly (for me) I no longer use this mod as I have no access to the original and I do not want another framework mod (fundament) rocking my already delicate and overcrowded platform, OBSE is enough for me.
I will not unendorse because I still respect the work that I endorsed!
I'm using this mod and it works perfectly, except for one thing. My progress bar is stuck at 100% and everytime I sleep I level up and it will not reset to 0. This can be avoided by not sleeping at all, but I'd like to know what is causing this problem. I do not have any other mods that affect character leveling.
Read the requirements, Don't forget to install tejon's Fundament mod as well. Without it this mod will do absolutely zilch.
After installing go read the Fundament mod comment section and peruse the extremely helpful Fundament Activation Guide by Ubeogesh. Fundament is deactivated by default, follow the guide to activate all the neat bits.
If this kind of installation intimidates you better stick with Ob XP. Never used Ob XP myself since I love this one too much. ;P
If I remember correctly it should be safe to switch directly to nGCD... but then again I've never done it myself....
The mod works perfectly fine as it is and doesn't cause any such conflicts, he's just saying it could have been scripted better. Which I agree with, everything can be improved, but if one doesn't know how or want to work on it himself, he has to go with what's offered by others (for free in this case). I only wish I had half the scripting prowess Felai seems to have. And I'm not being resentful, I really mean it.
EDIT: gah, this was supposed to be nested as a response to The Black Ninja!

so there is no reason to download progress if i ve already have fundument?
