===WHAT IT IS===

Versus Dark Brotherhood, or VDB, introduces an alternative quest to joining the Dark Brotherhood: instead, you get to destroy them. If you kill Lucien Lachance when he approaches you for the first time, there is a 2% per hour chance that you'll be visited by a vengeful assassin in your sleep. From there, you find yourself in a race against the clock to stop a deadly poison.

If you're already a member of the Dark Brotherhood, or have already received the Blade of Woe from Lachance, than you cannot begin this quest. However, if you killed Lachance before installing this mod, you can.

This mod also makes it more difficult to join the Dark Brotherhood. Before coming to visit you, Lachance will take into account your level, infamy, and general murderousness. He will not visit you until he's satisfied that you're bad enough.

The included quest favors tanks (for plenty of health, intense battles) and mages (mage attributes are affected less by the poison). If you survive the questline, you will be rewarded with five fame, plus the chance at a robe with a unique (scripted) enchantment depending on who makes it through the final battle.




===INSTALLATION===

Simply place Versus Dark Brotherhood.esp into your data file and activate it. Requires Oblivion patch 1.2.




===NOTES===

This mod is for high-level characters. If you do kill Lucien Lachance before level 20, you may want to turn this off until you're ready to take on the rest of the DB.



===HINTS===

You can keep your heart pumping by running, wearing down health and fatigue, getting shocked, fighting, and downing skooma.

Be sure to stock up on Potions of Respite. If the poison advances to its later stages, you can end up knocked out forever if you don't have an alternative way to restore fatigue.

Fast travel, waiting, and sleeping allows the poison to run its course. Unless you fancy yourself a corpse, don't do any of that.

Always check your assassins' bodies after you've been attacked. Be sure to pick up any suspicious notes and keys.

If you get the Robe as a reward at the end, I suggest keeping it off until you need it. For example, don't put it on until after you start fighting, sneaking, or travelling--whichever you are using it for at the moment.




===FUTURE PLANS===

-Additional rewards from characters who benefit from the destruction of the Dark Brotherhood.

-Custom mesh and/or texture for the final boss: anyone know of a good resource for this? I'm not good with meshes and textures, myself. (Current mesh: Spider Daedra.)

-A audible heartbeat to monitor how far the poison has advanced. Does anyone have a 5-second heartbeat clips of varying speed I could use?

-Further balancing to get things just right for higher-level characters. This is where you, the players, come in! Share your experiences with this mod, as well as any suggestions on how it can be improved.

-The ability to start the questline if you're already in the Dark Brotherhood.



===VERSION HISTORY===

1.0: Completed the quest, implemented a reward, and polished the final battle.

0.3: Extended the length of time it takes for the poison to advanced. Added the final stages of the quest.

0.2: Added stimulant effect to skooma. Increased requirements to join DB. Poison now tracks "permanent" damage for the most severe level, so that you may make a full recovery when the quest is completed.

0.1: First release. Includes everything up to the Cheydinhal Sanctuary.
