ETA on that? I need it now...
Nope. It's a shame that there still isn't an option to bypass the story missions in the game and play a true open sandbox without the nags, after all these years. It's such a common request on Steam forums too.
EDIT: Oh, wait.... if you set the universe to Abandoned (a new setting) in the new game settings it apparently disables the story. But it's not the same, this is not what I, or many have been asking for, I don't want all life forms removed from the universe, I just want the story removed

I eventually made my own, but it wasn't 100% clean, meaning you can't have "story missions complete but without much else unlocked", you will unlock something along the way, do some side missions, etc. I combined that with some mods that hide notifications and milestones, then edited the JSON in the Save Editor with some additional changes.
But I was never comfortable to share that as it felt too hacked and I had no idea what long term consequences it might have, as I didn't really know 100% what I was doing, though I played several saves based on that without any issues.
