I've uploaded various versions, some that will teach multi languages and some that only teach the set language of the system.
As mentioned on the description this works with all sources EXCEPT NPC's, this is because NPC's require you to specifify the category of word you want to learn so this would require code repetition for each category and race which is just too time consuming.
Let me know if there's any issues or if you'd like other versions.
Anyone know if this still works? Or if there are alternatives? I would love to be able to learn more than one word at a time. I have seen similar things, but they are always part of a bigger mod set, and this is all I am looking for at the moment. Unless there is a way to adjust something in the files... Either way, I would love to be able to set it up so that one stone would net me more than one word, and multiple words for each race would be ideal...
You say its too much to do NPC's, yet I clearly see in notepad++ that its literally just copy-paste of a single paragraph from either main category, if you know what they are. I know that because increased rewards mod from AstraXIV does NPC's. Unfortunately.... that mod does words in general, with no option to have just the rewards. Which is bad because that conflicts with your mod, and I dont like that because id rather use your version for word learning. -_- Nothing is ever easy. Now I have to do manual edits among all that chaos of edit flags. Ffs.
Considering the abundance of knowledge stones and ruins I personally felt that doing the NPC's as well wasn't necessary as you can very easilly and quickly learn the whole language just by using the knowledge stones.
Yes it is true it's mainly copying the existing code into each section which I've already previously said, however to do the NPC's properly there are a total of 7 word categories for each language so a total of 21 sections to edit initially but because of how NPC word learning is done once you've learnt all of that specific category it will then default to a "misc" section so if you'dont edit that then you start learning only 1 word at that point, however if you decide to edit it then it becomes a total of 42 sections to repeat. Now for example if you wanted to learn 3 words per NPC interaction that becomes a total of 126 extra code repetitions, if you want 5 words then jumps to 210, now multiply that by the different versions of the mod I have available and it just becomes too cumbersome and time consuming. I know it's not difficult but I just don't have the time to do it currently with a full time job, specially considering how often mods get broken by updates which then requires fixing them.
I've not really been playing NMS that much lately but I'm still fully supporting the mod and tweaking it within reason but because of time constraints I won't be adding NPC's for the time being, maybe in future if I get the time to learn the LUA scripts properly as that would automate the work required.
If you are wanting to do it yourself however then the easiest way to locate the categories to edit is by searching with Notepad++ for value="TRA_WORD_ ; value="EXP_WORD_ or value="WAR_WORD_ If you use the "find all in current document" option then it should identify the 7 categories for each of them so that should make it simpler, and then it's a case of reapeating the sections of code just under the <Property name="List">, if you only want to learn multiples of the set word category and not the misc word then repeat only the first section, if you also extra of the "misc" then also repeat the second part.
Thats fair enough. And also thank you for the tip - for some reason I always ignored the ''find all in current document'' option. Lol. Talk about making things harder for myself. Nah, NPC's do sound like quite a hassle. I do, however, want to replace word learning in ''increased rewards'' mod with your version. I think I have identified all the entries to be replaced, but... just in case, it would be nice to know the entries I should look for. It would be easier if there werent that many edits in that mod. At first I actually tried to carry over ALL of them to your file (minus the words), but it was so monotonic that I decided to just carry over your changes to that file. I think I even managed to go through 2/3 or 2/4 of all the edits in there...
Btw, there seem to be some new text in the current REWARDTABLE.MBIN of the game.
Thanks for explaining mate! I tried to look into a Lua script so we can just update the mod when a new patch comes. But that is way too complicated for me to do, I would rather just update manually myself. Also, I cannot open your file thru MBINCompiler as it just gives errors. Else I could manually update one for us all.
Love using this mod, but it really needs an update to support Origins as it causes a number of issues with the new features and content, eg: multitool upgrades, the new buried items, the scrap metal vendor.
What types of 'issues' please. How are the buried items effected / scrap vendor? I see from this and another post that multitool upgrade is out. After time away, I'm jumping back into NMS, and don't want to shoot myself in the foot with an out of date mod - Cheers
EDIT - Gave this a go & had no issues - quickly learned all words - then deactivated mod, as no longer necessary - Thumbs Up - Endorsed
with this mod installed everything works as it should however I can't buy Old Scrap from the Scrap dealer. remove this mod and I can buy old scrap from dealer. this was something added in Origins update.
Unfortunately both mods use the same file so the only way to fix the conflict is by merging the mods, the easiest way is by a LUA script but I'm not sure how to create that properly as haven't really looked into it currently but it would also need a LUA file for AstraXIV's mod, otherwise you could always unpack both mods, compare the files using notepad++ and merge it manually and adjust to your liking.
AstraXIV's mod does includes learning extra words, just not multiple languages when using the knowledge stone so it is good, just depends on what you are after really.
