For those that want to roll back to an older version in order to use this mod, see below

Make sure you're using patch 3.99, released August 15th. https://www.nomanssky.com/2022/08/endurance-patch-3-99/

Alternatively, if you're interested in playing in 3rd person VR, you can roll back to the June 17th, 2022 patch.

You can find the 3rd person mod here as different versions: UltramersionUltramersionPlus, The Traveller (True Nights)
And this is the regular modular (1st person) mod for that same 3.93 patch, so you could swap between 1st and 3rd person as you feel like: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1563?tab=files&file_id=18418

3rd person requires a small amount of additional setup, just takes a couple minutes to do. Step by step instructions: here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cY96aDyS6sWErIufWlSz9sEQJP9r60AP2FnA200tv64/edit?usp=sharing

Instructions to roll back steam versions: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=889624474

    Edit:
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRYING THIRD PERSON

Step 1: first you need to download the compatible older version of No Man's Sky. Paste this into your browser URL bar:
    steam://nav/console

Step 2: a windows popup will ask you if it can open this link with Steam Client. Allow it to open with Steam. This will open the console tab in Steam.

Step 3: At the bottom of the Steam console there is a bar to enter text. There, you should paste the following:
    download_depot 275850 275851 7811366465326827399

Step 4: press the enter key to process the console request. Steam will begin downloading the specified older version of No Man's Sky, version 3.93, that the 3rd person mod is compatible with. You will not see download progress. Just be patient! The console will tell you when it's complete. If your network goes down, the download will pause, until network comes back. Do not close the console, this will stop the download.

Step 5: open the folder where the files were downloaded by copying the location from the Console and pasting it in the File Explorer folder bar (or navigate manually). For me, this was: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_275850\depot_275851

Step 6 (optional): backup your current No Man's Sky files if you have an existing PC save you care about. Go to your Steam library, right click No Man's Sky, click "properties", click the "Install Files" tab, click "Backup Game Files", choose a backup location on your computer, and begin the backup. Let it complete before proceeding.

Step 7: Go to your steam library, right click No Man's Sky, click "properties", click the "Install Files tab", click "Browse". This will take you to the No Man's Sky installation folder. Delete all the folders and files inside the parent folder "No Man's Sky". Leave the parent folder.

Step 8: copy (or cut, keyboard shortcut "control-x") the downloaded game files that you opened in File Explorer in step six. Paste ("control-v") the files into the No Man's Sky folder you just emptied.

Step 9: Open the GAMEDATA folder, then the PCBANKS folder. Delete the file "DisableMods.txt". In the same PCBANKS folder, create a folder called "MODS" (no quotation marks).

Step 10: Download your preferred version of the 3rd person mod, UltramersionUltramersionPlus, The Traveller (True Nights). A zip file will download.

Step 11: Extract the contents of the zip file (one .pak file) into the MODS folder you created. On my computer, all I need to do to extract is double click the zip file to view what's inside, then drag the file over to the MODS folder.

You have completed the mod installation. (Removing a mod is as easy as deleting the file. There is nothing destructive about this process. The only destructive aspect of this is if you have an up-to-date No Man's Sky save, make sure you follow Step 6 to back it up before deleting it!).

To finish setting up the mod, you must take a few additional, quick, reversible steps:

STEP 1: In SteamVR settings, enable “Advanced Settings”. Go to the “Video” tab then “Per-Application Video Settings”. Select No Man’s Sky as the game. Change “Override World Scale” dropdown to “Extreme”. Pull the slider down to the lowest setting, 10%.

STEP 2 (optional): When booting the game the main menu will be too close to you. That’s normal (couldn’t change this, but it’s only an issue at the main menu). Temporarily move your head forward and recenter (press in both thumbsticks) to have a more comfortable view at the boot screen.

STEP 3: When you load into your game, lean a little forward and down and recenter (press in both thumbsticks) to get a comfortable 3rd person view. You don’t want to go too far back or you won’t be able to control your character’s hands properly! It’ll make sense once you’re in-game, it’s very straightforward. Recenter and experiment as much as you want to find the comfiest position. When you’re in ship you might want to be a little further up & back depending on your personal preference and ship type.

STEP 4: Make sure full body is enabled in No Man’s Sky control settings!!! (If it's not you won't see your body, just tiny little hands)

STEP 5: Play the game! You can find some additional tips and notes about the 3rd person experience here, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cY96aDyS6sWErIufWlSz9sEQJP9r60AP2FnA200tv64/edit?usp=sharing. The full game can be played in 3rd person.

Is there any way this mod could be updated? I always check back from time to time on this mod to see if for some reason it works. If not is there any way to modify it to get it working?

idk if you are active but i have a question in case you see this.

i have 0 experience with nms modding but i wanted to try to update at least the hud aspects of your mod. I succeeded in some ways. I think i got all the changes made in GCUIGLOBALS and HUDMARKER. i also managed to get rid of the space station icon but i cant get rid of the text and estimated time to arrival.

I just wanted to see if you (or anyone else) could help me try to remove the space station and anomaly text. like just point me to a file unless i missed something in GCUIGLOBALS or something

Is there a way to remove the black screen, e.g. if you are flying upside down with VR into a station/freighter etc.?

This mod removes it... I think. I say "I think" because I feel like I remember making that change way back when I first released this mod, but I can't even remember what it is I changed that does that, and I forgot to document it... But I play with my own mod, and I don't have that black screen anymore, so... presumably I've changed it!

...Now I'm confused as to what I actually changed that did that. I'm gonna guess it's a change that's made in the modular file "0_OtherHUD", if using the modular version of the mod.

Anyways, yeah if you use this mod it should remove that black screen.

Thanks for your answer, I use the modular version with all twelve chleanHUD_0 plus (1a, 2a, 3c, 4b, 5e, 6d, 7d, 8c, 9b) but the black screen is still there. Have I forgotten something?

Are you experiencing this blackout when going into space stations? Is it only when you land on a derelict freighter?

If it's only when you land on a derelict freighter, it's actually a minor issue caused by my mod, file 8c, that is a consequence of the changed lighting filter on derelict freighters to make them spookier. It's just a very brief flash of black so I felt it was worth it.

If it's happening when you go onto space stations... I gotta say I'm pretty confused. I just did a bunch of testing and I don't experience this black fade when flying upside down into space stations and it reorients you. I know I used to, but I'm not now, and even if I remove all mods including my own I still don't get the black fade. Which makes me think I am remembering wrong and it was just patched out or something. But if you're experiencing it, and are on the latest patch, presumably that's not the answer... so that would be confusing..!

      Anyways, let me know.

Unfortunately, I have this black screen when flying overhead into freighters, space stations and Nexus.
I use the Steam version (stable branch).

Otherwise all mods work, the new wrist panels, the new menu including transparency, etc. A really great job you've done here!

AMUMSS says no conflicts with other modifications.

This situation is getting stranger by the minute! :)

So, regardless of whatever is going on with the black fade, you should definitely not be getting the out of play area warning using that file (5e). I know you said you checked for conflict, but can you tell me what other mods you are using, and maybe also take a screenshot of your mods folder?

Whatever the issue is, whether or not it's connected to you getting the black fade going into space stations I'm not sure yet..

I was wrong with the out-of-play-area warning - it is no longer available. I was wrong about another play season when I tested without mods.
(I tried to edit the post, but unfortunately it doesn't work properly, after which I removed the part completely.)

These are the other modifications that are installed:

Some third-person mods centric to the VR play area as the achieved player-perspective shift's outcome are contingent on its every grounded component's separation from camera tangent, defaulting for local map the unit main. In space stations especially, the camera ends up bugging out the remaining input of what then is a sort of 'spectator mode' alongside the tethered player's visual.

Basically, the black screen is the furthest wall the camera orbits to got stuck with you. Some the third-person mods are fine in flatscreen mode, only to catch everything the player parts with to enter a ship, a warp animation, or even a dialogue interface's situation that is beyond the shift afar.

Every so often, the best solution tends to really be to try a mod's other versions. A random part of a modular collection probably needed a quick coding reference edit after any number of small adjustments following a game update, reconning a .dll an adjacent string's added item aesthetic of object reference of Life Support. Lets the save load the game hud's animation intro.

What's interesting absence. Here's a locality. You have a motor mod inning around. VR in the first-person main for third-person? Nice. That's a comprehend to problem detail for mods. No Man's Sky is weird like that: Learning why how some void feature topics aligns wiki leaves. I don't think I've ever played a game for this much mystery from it before.

I feel few say something they bother being first to notice for No Man's Sky, as if needing nothing could. Nexus is very nebulous. To fit that. Have you ever read a videogame solution you knew was an answer? How's about a gaming topic the community mod? I'll go normal. Try to ask. Here's mine.

What's the best gaming solution someone finally said? I mean, we're talking about one of those one-in-a-thousand topic suggestions. Your very best info out of nowhere that makes awkward on everything, where you realize you're uncomfortable finding out before the others you avoid them. Perfect.

My gaming solution is about No Man's Sky, about how anyone who's flown around in VR has a bunch of  distractions. I thought so. That's a major part of No Man's Sky with advice. Awesome is even eventful. The tech is believable. Here's the capture, because fiction is voidable: When you're in your starship, press the thumbsticks to reposition your seat. Now pick up your Xbox controller. Your virtual reality controllers are now deactivated. You don't have a VR body anymore. I bet you should walk out of the back of your starship that way.

You can turn right around with your Xbox controller when you're on the table. You have your starship hover in front of you. Unbelievable. No business scopes require what's said now. How could you forget your old SteamVR  settings? What about the one addon Steam famed into insane the practical? I don't think I've I've ever read anything about SteamVR addons for No Man's Sky, and that's unsurprise. Go reinstall OVR Advanced Settings, and use the only reliable xyz-axis clicker out there.

Now you see the problem: You were one of them. At least I won you critical. Two clicks repositions you ten feet across the floor and into the ceiling corner. I hope you're awesome: The mod hilightnotes has invented for you is the perfect astral travel kit. Talk about the unexpected. I can watch them from the top of the woods all day. Awesome mod, hilightnotes.

Shame this doesn't work. I want to enjoy NMS in VR. I really do... but the fact your HMD doesn't control certain movements (IE: Rocket jump, jetpacking) is a HUGE disconnect. Not to mention the HMD doesn't turn the HUD, but your body... so I spend half my time looking around the room to try and find my HUD to see what is going on. I don't want to be seated, I want to be standing... but all these touted 'vr improvements' are anything but. Maybe this mod gets updated so my HUD will follow me wherever I look.... you know, like a REAL heads-up-display... maybe my body will also follow where I look? Maybe I'll stop rocket-jumping backwards when I'm actually looking forwards. x.x

Yep I had reached out to see if you were interested in updating your gameplay stuff and Id pass off the work Ive done on the HUD. Either way let me know if you start to support this mod again. I have no attachment to this either way and revived it for my own use, shared it for the community so others could enjoy it, but as long as someone is supporting a mod like this for VR is all I care about in the end.

I'll bet there are enough of us willing to donate a couple of dollars each to buy you a new headset and get this mod moving. If that would help and be of interest?  I get the time factor, for sure though.  It's just an idea/offer...  Let us know.  :)  Maybe a gofundme?

It's a thoughtful idea/offer. So, thankfully my headset is actually working again! The main issue now is just a bit of burnout in my brain :) While I don't have much money (I'm doing ok though) and donations are relevant and appreciated, I don't think receiving more money would get me past burnout and I wouldn't want a pressure where it's expected that I deliver now that I've been given X amount of money. It's impactful when people donate but the way I think of it is to encourage donations for what I've already done, not what someone hopes I will do in the future, I think this is a healthier approach for both me and the users (definitely for me).

I'm also just a terrible 'salesperson', I don't expect people would actually get on board a gofundme when I don't have promotional/money-making charisma haha. At the moment I estimate I've made about $0.50 per hour of work on the mod at most heh. And that's cuz one generous person gave me two huge donations a while back. My point being it would require a huge jump in donations for this to actually be something that is an 'income' for me.

Honestly in terms of getting past my burnout, comments like I receive here are more relevant (...but donations are still relevant to my life ha). My brain cares a lot more about human beings & community than money :) It's always helpful to be reminded that there's people eager to play the game with the mod.

Anyways we'll see where things go, I haven't gotten back to work on it yet, but it continues to gestate in my mind...

You sound like a cool dude. :)  I always appreciate modders who spend time and energy for a bunch of strangers to better enjoy a game.  I mean, I code a little bit so I know it's fun.  (When you're not burned out.)  But it must be a LOT of work-- especially keeping up with game releases!

I'm very excited to try your updated mod if and when it comes.  I just started playing NMS in VR and LOVE it-- but wow, your tweaks sound like essential game changers!  (Pun intended-not intended? ;)  Thanks and have a great day!

Appreciate ya. Happy to say my VR headset fixed itself ha. Some kind of electrical issue, I unplugged every wire from it and plugged it all back in and it was working! I'm still pretty burnt out on updating the mod though, I know that's disappointing to hear. Still very much in mind but yeah on the backburner for the time being. Appreciate the kind words!

By the way I think there is a way to revert back to an old version of the game if you want to still use the mod, if you want to do that and need help figuring out how, let me know. You won't be able to do multiplayer though.
