To anyone who wonders if this is worth it. Heck yeah it is! Pretty easy to use, and gets the job done.

May I ask where you got the Icons for your map?

I built them. Pixel by pixel, in Paint! I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but it was fun! (yeah . . . I have issues . . .)

Sweet, that is awesome. I've tinkered a bit with that but didn't get too far into it yet, I will someday.

I have my own Spreadsheet “Freighter Base Layout” of my own done in google sheets. But it doesn’t use any icons and what not, but does have things to copy and paste where you want them. Just done differently.

I saw that someone asked about a Google Sheets version and that you couldn't get that to work right. I have worked in Google Sheets almost daily since it was first available so I have a good amount of experience with it. So I decided to try it.

I have managed to make a version of the “Freighter Base Floor Plan” on Google Sheets using your Icons (or pixels).

Here is the link if you want to check it out.

      Interesting! I'll check this out!

      Review:
Your Google Sheets version of Freighter Base Floor Plan appears to have very smooth functionality, though it's (of course) Read Only, so I was not able to make changes to it for a full test. But your instructions are very visible and concise, so I found it easy to adjust to navigation.
One discrepancy I found: The bulkheads are not doors, they are walls. I have yet to discover a logical implementation for doors so they remain unrepresented. I may develop an overlay for them in the future, but building individual map pieces for every possible door combination would have multiplied the total number of pieces exponentially!

It's a very different interface to what I'm used to, but for those familiar with Google Sheets I think this would be a wonderful new way to build freighter maps. I'm delighted (and flattered!) that you've put so much conscientious effort into furthering what I have done.

I also see that your credits appear to be well in place, suggesting plans for publishing this for community usage.

So? "How do you want to do this?"  : )
Feel free to PM me and we can discuss this further!

Thanks, I make guides with Google Sheets for the Games I play and I tend to share them with the communities. If someone helps me or I use assets from someone else I always give credit where it's due and ask about publishing them for the community to freely use.

Ok, I wasn't sure if those were walls or bulkhead doors, and yes that would add a lot more tiles.

Hey, I don't see an editable grid, am I missing something? :(

The grid is static. It is your canvas and the pieces are your pallette, in painting terms! Drag (I recommend copy-pasting) the small images at the top and along the right edge onto the grid to build your floorplan.

I'd love to see the full version of your freighter floor plan, it would really help to give an idea of "how things are made here".
    Really nice graphics tho !

I should probably record and attach a video to give everyone a clear view of how to manipulate the pieces, but it truly is straightforward once you've fiddled around and experimented with it. For puzzle-builders like me it's a lot of fun, but if you hate jigsaw puzzles I can see where this might be a bit tedious for some!

Hot damn, this is incredible. When I found out the extent to which I could modify freighter bases, I was really overwhelmed. This will seriously help.

Great, great tool.  Works perfectly in LibreOffice (which is zero-BS free, btw.)

Yes! As a matter of fact LibreOffice works so well that I now use it exclusively for this mod. Thank You Very Much for bringing this version of OpenDocuments to my attention!

Is there a way you can make a Google sheets version of this? It is the only spreadsheet I'll use.

Hmmm, I'll have to look into that program. I'm unfamiliar with Google Sheets . . . for now. But that may need to be remedied . . .

I did some experimenting with Google Sheets and the functionality of that spreadsheet program seems to be somewhat limited. My images did not transfer to it from my .ods file, requiring me to move them over one by one. I then found that I was unable to accurately resize them to fit to a cell properly, resulting in the images being inconsistently proportioned. Further, there seems to be no way to cut and paste an image and have it 'snap' to a cell the way that the OpenDocuments file allows.
Without the availability of these options it appears that a Google Sheets version of Freighter Base Floor Plan will not be possible in the manner I intend it to function. But I appreciate the suggestion! If I could have made it work I would have. And should you find workarounds for these issues just let me know and I will be happy to reappraise the program.

One suggestion if you ever get around to updating this:  Add an all-white square.  The functionality isn't quite right if you aren't using a pure-white sheet (such as those of us who use a dark mode for our spreadsheet editors.)

I'm finally looking into Dark Mode on LibreOffice and . . . I really like it! Cuts down on the glare when you're going for immersion in low-light conditions, especially with multiple monitors. Besides a white square, is there anything else you've encountered that I could adjust to make Dark Mode work better with this?

I wish I saw this before I built my freighter... considering redoing it now, this is a handy tool. One question I have out of curiosity is, what do you do with all the space? Most of it will simply be dead space as there are no added NPC's etc utilizing it. I tried to build my freighter around the specialist terminals so there were some NPC's.

      Sorry, I was busy un-digging my planetary bases . . .
This will definitely help you redo your Freighter Base, so please let me know how it goes if you choose to do so.
Yes, HG gave us a LOT of space (they're good for that!). I've scarcely begun to figure out what to do with 14 levels of Freighter Base building.
But it's truly up to you, and I keep hoping that users will share their ideas to add to my own. I try to keep my layouts practical, I try to logically consider what a ship Should have, and I'm always trying to remind myself to Think Vertically. Unavoidably you will have a nucleus area where you spend most of your time, and the rest is for show. But I try to make my show logical, practical and fun!
