Introduction
This mod will make you able to pet the pod using the controller's touchpad on PC.
This functionality is present on Playstation but on PC even when using a Playstation controller you cannot pet the pod using the touchpad, but only by spinning the mouse thus breaking the controller immersion and experience.
The mod itself is a script that will install the Steam input layout automatically.
Requirements
- Steam: You will need to use Steam input feature from Steam, this means that if you own the game on other platforms, it will not straight up work for now, you will need to do a custom manual installation of the mod, if you need help with that feel free to ask.
- Dualshock 4 (PS4)/Dualsense (PS5) Controller: These two are the only two supported controllers, if you own a controller that identifies as a Playstation controller and has a touchpad it should work without any problem, otherwise it may need a bit of tweaking.
- Powershell: It comes with your Windows installation in most cases.
Installation
- Ensure you have Steam input enabled and running for your controller.
- Download the main file from the download section.
- Extract the folder "PodPettingRestored" in the archive anywhere in your computer.
Note: My advice here will be to extract the folder in your NieR Automata root folder, to keep it in a precise and known location. - Ensure that Steam is not running.
- Run the "Pod Petting Restored Installer.bat" script as administrator and follow the few steps based on your preferences.
- The mod should now be successfully installed.
- OPTIONALLY set under the mouse section in the SpecialK settings for the cursor to never show for a more immersive experience.
Uninstallation
- Ensure that Steam is not running.
- Run the "Pod Petting Restored Installer.bat"
- This time the script will detect the backup files and ask you if you want to restore them.
- Follow the few steps based on your preferences
- The mod should now be successfully uninstalled.
Note: Uninstallation is possible only if you don't delete the folder after installation as it requires backup files created during the first installation.
Usage
To pet the pod you can now use your finger on the touchpad of your controller:
make a relatively fast rotatory movement on the touchpad to pet the pod.
It takes from 4 to 7 quick spins with the finger to pet the pod.
Notes
- This mod is just a workaround and is based on a controller layout so you can use the cursor with the touchpad.
- The camera with touchpad moves very slow and has a relatively high threshold so you can't move the camera with the touchpad by mistake.
- Game is finally playable on PC !!
