I would love to see this work with reload canceling when sprinting. Sprint mods allow you to animation cancel the reload and get all your bullets back just by sprinting, testing this in TTW and it didn't work for that specific use case unfortunately.
Finally, thank you for fixing this, although it would be great if it worked with B42 Dropmag and One in the chamber mod, specifically One in chamber and Reload with full clip for extra round MCM settings, which should be essential to be enabled imo.
What every game really needs is the system in Helldivers 2: The animation is separated into distinct stages so that, if interrupted, it can continue from the last one completed. Ergo, if you take the magazine out and then are knocked down or swap weapons, then swap back and press the key again, you start the next animation stage, which is inserting the new magazine. Likewise, if you finish the new mag stage, but interrupt it immediately afterward, when you try again, you'll start the charging handle stage, and then the reload is complete.
Left 4 Dead actually has a more rudimentary system that simply forces the animation to continue after any interruptions, so if you do a melee shove, the game plays that animation, then immediately continues the reload at the next frame after the shove finishes. The physical actions performed on the weapon aren't staged, however, so if you swap weapons (or are caught by a special infected, or hit by a Tank or its thrown rock, or staggered by an explosion, etc.) then the reload must start over from the beginning, even if you have removed the empty magazine already.
I'm sure other games have done both of these methods, but I haven't played many recent shooters lately.
Ah thank you! I hated how I had to wait for the whole animtion to finish before ammo actually gets refilled. I think this'll work well with Hitman's animations since most of them are really slow.

Forget what I said. I am just dumb.
