About this mod

Simple 1 to 1 conversions of all metal Junk Objects, Armors, Helmets, Tools, etc., into Scrap Metal and Scrap Electronics by weight, without the gimmicks. Also updates the sounds of Scrap Metals and Scrap Electronics to finally sound like metal instead of the default, clothlike "woosh", for improved Player immersion.

Scrap By Weight

With this mod, the Player will be able to create an over-abundance of Scrap Metal and Scrap Electronics by breaking down most metallic objects, armors, helmets, and even tools based purely on the weight of the item, for 1 to 1 returns. Whatever the item weighs is how much you get back in Scrap. Simple.

With that being said, some Players may find that this isn't the most "balanced" mod, because YES, every item (with the exceptions of Tin Cans and Bent Tin Cans) will yield 1 to 1 returns based on weight alone, including heavy Armors like Metal Armor and Power Armor.

However, if you're a Player like me and you NEED an over-abundance of Scrap Metal, for whatever reasons, you will see high returns when out scavenging now. No gimmicks or Skill requirements. What it weighs is what you get, with exceptions for Tin Cans and Bent Tin cans, which yield 1 for 5 (because they are so plentiful), and excluding extremely small items like Forks and Spoons (since recipes for those already exist in the default game).

WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THIS MOD!?

I had been searching high and low for Mods that offered the Player an opportunity to create higher yields for Scrap Metal, but couldn't find one that didn't come with needless gimmicks.

  • The first mod I looked at added lots of bloat to the game, in the forms of new types of crafting benches, did something weird with the ovens, and had unfortunately left so many dirty edits in various world spaces that multiple comments in the Post section said the mod had broken their saves, to the point of leaving warnings in ALL CAPS!
  • The second mod I looked at was done quite well, except for the fact that EVERY recipe required a Hammer. I get what the Author was trying to do. Preserving immersion by suggesting the Player was hammering items down into Scraps, but I found it tedious to need to keep a Hammer in my inventory every time I wanted to craft Scrap, or to have to go and fetch it from wherever I stored it last.
  • The 3rd Mod was also done well enough, except for the fact that the recipes required 3 of everything to craft Scrap Metal. 3 Coffee Pots, 3 Pressure Cookers, 3 Metal Pans . . . I just found that I rarely, if ever, had three of the exact same random metal items in my possession each time I wanted to craft Scrap, so that also became tedious, trying to keep up with having three of this and three of that.

This mod dispenses with all such nonsense. Go to the Workbench. What is weighs is what you get.

Categories are "Scrap Metal By Weight" and "Scrap Electronics By Weight", so you get to neatly and conveniently choose what you are crafting, with VERY neat and easy to understand descriptions, such as "1 Fission Battery = 6 Scrap Metal", or, "1 Metal Cooking Pan = 1 Scrap Metal".

Simple, fast and easy!

BUT RIGHTEOUSFIST,  WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER NEED SO MUCH SCRAP METAL!?

Well in my case, my character always plays the role of a traveling Merchant as a side hustle, and at some point in every play through, I like to acquire 100,000 Caps! So I regularly scavenge and sell weapons and armor, but as a RULE, I am only allowed to sell my wares in proper condition, and everything has to be past the "good condition" mark before being taken to market. Needless to say, when my weapons from my character's stock begin to approach the "good condition" mark, I will often use Weapon Repair Kits to make them market ready! With that being the case, my character goes through Weapon Repair Kits like drinking water in Hardcore Mode, until we have 100,000 Caps and settle down. As such, I needed a steady, regular supply of Scrap Metal, but wanted to scavenge for it in a way that preserves the gameplay and keeps the immersion.

I find that the trade is fair, as this mod works well with my other mod, "Wasteland Inflation" (TTW only), which raises the prices of Junk Items for greater profits. Now, breaking down junk and armors into scrap of course requires the Player to sacrifice it's value in Caps, so there's a fair trade off when balancing whether you need funds or materials from every object.

Maybe you have your own, or similar reasons for needing a steady supply of Scrap, and this mod's purpose is to provide that while preserving the gameplay!

I deliberately refrained from adding unique items to the recipes, so don't worry about accidentally scrapping any one-of-a-kind items, or weapons.

The only liberty that I took with my mod is that the sounds of Scrap Metal have been changed to "small Metal", so that now taking and crafting Scrap Metal actually sounds like small pieces of metal, instead of the default "wush" sound you get when taking standard objects, for better immersion. Enjoy.
