Just realized this mod, Different LOD mods little tweaks and additions overwrites only 2 files (both in original MNLOD and Cleaned)...
otbldgdescorner02_lod.nif and otbldgdescorner03_lod.nif.  Which mod do you recommend wins?  Thanks again! <3

Mod you are mentioned should overwrite MNL.

So with MNLOD "the original", I use these patches:

    • MNLOD fixed rocks color
    • MNLOD - NMC Washedoutwasteland patch
    • and Hoover Dam Jets RaD - Much Needed LOD Patch
It seems like maybe, at least the hoover dam jets are fixed in your version?  Are any/all of these patches still valid and/or necessary with MNLOD - Cleaned? thxu <3

      - Additional rocks lods deleted, so patches for rocks not needed
      - Broken hoover dam jets lod also removed, so patch not needed

No matter what I try I can't get distant railroad tracks or train cars after running LODgen. Does anyone else know how some people get them in their screenshots? Pregenerated NMC's has them but it doesn't work with anything else :/

edit:  just get LOD additions and improvements

Be sure LOD mods are latest in your load order, also be sure that load order is correct. My load order:

Is this mod meant to replace "Much Needed LOD' or work alongside it while overwriting files?

Yes, it is meant to replace original "Much Needed LOD".

If that is the case then why in the screenshot above, is "Much Needed LOD" installed but not "Much Needed LOD - Cleaned"?

      That is weird...

Because i named it "cleaned" for nexusmods, not for my internal usage.

Can you sticky this? Couldn't find an optimal load order anywhere else for all of the new lod mods coming out.

Your instructions say to disable this mod after generating lod. That is incorrect. The esp is needed to apply the correct visible when distant flags to objects, and as far I know, the assets themselves are also still needed. Disabling the mod after generating makes the entire venture pointless.

I have it disabled after LOD generation and see every object added by this mod. You can check by yourself. Almost every LOD mod can be disabled after generation without issues.

This. I think you need the ESP enabled so the distant objects properly unload as well. There's no reason to disable them anyways. If it's about plugin count and you have multiple LOD mod ESPs you can just merge them. Also the author of Much Needed LOD hasn't been online since 2021. I wanted to upload something similar to this a year ago or so but the perms on it are confusing.

Never encountered any issues with loading /unloading newly generated LODs. I think this need some research, because i remember somewhere was said that lod plugins can be safely disabled.

I see, there is warning now in Viva New Vegas LOD guide, that lod resources must be enabled, but no explanation. I've removed "disable" part from installation instruction.

In cells that normally wouldn't have LOD, adding LOD through the mod means that the flags on those refs are required for the game to unload LOD correctly (info is literally from the game's code)

I'm curious, why did you remove the additional rock lods?

Rocks mean more z-fighting, also you dont need to patch them for every texture pack, and remaining textures are good to use with Nut Vegas or Legacy Reborn without any patches. For NMC or Ojo you still need road texture patch from original mod page.

Can I use texture patches from "Much Needed LOD" page with this?

If you use Ojo or NMC textures - you can. If you use Legacy Reborn or Nut Vegas - they are not needed, because rocks are removed, and curved road textures are really similar. I dont use them with Nut Vegas or Legacy Reborn, everything looks fine.

Are the cars still high polygon, cause that was one of the major issues with the OG much needed lod as the cars alone took up much of the vertices limit.

No changes were made to models itself, anyway, i dont have any problem with them, zero perfomance loss. You can delete cars models from .esp by FNVEdit and regenerate lods without them.

+1 to what Draco said. RoyBattarian, longtime modder and influential member of the Tale of Two Wastelands team, has talked about how the cars in this LOD mod eat up the game's vert count. They desperately need to be optimized. A lot of the models do. "I don't have any problem with them" is the old classic "works on my machine," which isn't the most salient logic.

You know, I think I'll try to reduce the vert count on those car meshes. Not sure when I'll be able to complete the task, but when I do I'll post the updated meshes here.

Yep, vertex limit for a single cell of LOD is ~65,000. More than that and the NIF gets split into multiple chunks within the file itself, and then none of it loads for that cell when you get in-game. I've had it happen, and I've had to fix it. Quickest way to tell is just going straight to goodsprings from the main menu and seeing if you can see the yangtze memorial from where you're standing.

Edit: Also you'll get warning messages in the xLODGen log, but you have to actually look for those.

There is also literally zero warnings when generating LODs with this and others LOD mods enabled at the same time. So i think it is fine now to use it without rocks. Here it is, you can check it by yourself.
