Cursor appears nowhere near the bottom and I'm forced to page down a billion times to get to the bottom. Clicking in a certain spot does nothing. Trying to go directly down does nothing. Mod is infuriating to use.

Sorry, these are limitations of the games built in text entry box, it was only ever intended for making your name during character creation.

So what's the fix, then? Would changing the journal box dimensions make it work? I'd rather the box be smaller and the script work properly than have to spam page down so many times.

Actually found a fix. Hitting home again while the textbox is still up triggers the page down spam script. Doesn't do it immediately, takes a couple of times pressing the key to get it to work. But it works nonetheless, if anyone else is having this problem, give it a try.

I once found an awesome journal mod for Fallout 4, where you use a holotape as a journal! You could access it through the Pipboy or use it on a computer and access it there. I wish there was a mod like that for New Vegas and 3. This seems like a nice substitute, but a lot of the comments seem to be dealing with problems… so I’m worried about trying it.

It's just a little script runner that opens a text entry box and saves the output to a plain text file, nothing to worry about (you can always check the script yourself using notepad). I suspect the problems people have with it are that they are using Vortex, and/or they installed New Vegas in the Program Files directory.

Doesn't work for me. I tried to change the key to another but still doesn't show up. I have everything updated.

Literally generated my LOD, ready to finally play TTW after modding for a week, then realize I forgot to download the Logbook.

So glad I did a search for "journal" and found this. The logbook is so finicky, and this is silky smooth. Plus, it has by far my favorite feature the Logbook doesn't:

One journal across saves. I'm going to playing through the Capital Wasteland and Mojave on one character, BUT, I'm gonna do it on two different saves, so being able to keep my journal from DC into NV makes me very happy <3

    Tysm.

For some reason the mod stopped working after a while, it still works in a few early saves and on the main menu but on my most recent ones the journal window doesn't come up

    Really nice mod, thanks!

For some reason it doesn't seem to work for me: the hotkey brings out the journal, I can type in it, when I press ok the journal vanishes from the screen. But if I press the hotkey once more the journal will be blank and no PlayerJournal.txt file is on my Overwrite MO2 folder. I checked and have all the required mods up to date (JIP LN, Improved Console and XNVSE).

Can you reproduce this on your end or is it just me?

I cannot reproduce this. Do any errors show up in the console? Also, is New Vegas installed in the C drive?

Apologies for the delay, haven't been able to check sooner.

No errors show on console when used (or any message for that matter); NV is installed in the C drive outside of the default windows folders to avoid UAC shenanigans.

Does the ini file get generated? It should show up as Data\config\PlayerJournal.ini

Ok after some more testing, it's definitely something on my end.

Created a new profile on MO2 with only JIP, Improved Console and this mod activated; created a new game, pressed the hotkey and wrote in the journal. Both the ini and the txt gets generated in MO2's Overwrite folder, works like a charm!

On my default profile the issue persists: neither of the files get created/updated. Pressing the hotkey activated the journal (which kept what I wrote in the previous test, all ok) but anything I wrote further wouldn't get saved, as previously described.

I won't bother you further with this cause it's definitely something on my end and I don't have the faintest clue where I'd begin checking for the culprit (the default MO2 profile is running a heavily modded TTW). Sorry for wasting your time, the mod is awesome!

I managed to fix this in case anyone is having the same problem, all I did was update NVSE and JIP and it started working again, so I'm guessing this happens when u have outdated mods

Started using this as a log for a character I started roleplaying as in my game. It's pretty good compared to the logbook mod, which is just tedious to even use, and I can copy paste the text file and show it to other people

When I try to access the journal ingame, everything freezes and can't do anything else, althought I can still hear the music. Maybe a plugin issue or something? Thought they're all up to date, and the .ini file is generated. I'm not really sure

That's interesting. I will see if I can reproduce on my setup.

I was not able to re-produce this behavior, so I am not sure what could be causing it. My only suggestion would be to make sure that all your plugins (not just the ones required by this mod) are up to date, like Stewie Tweaks, Johnny Guitar, etc.

Update on this: Well, looks like somehow I managed to fix the freeze by doing absolutely nothing, so hooray, but now I'm having an issue where I type anything and hit the ok button but nothing gets saved (I open up the journal again and any changes that I make to the journal don't appear)

Just started a new playthrough with this mod and found that it goes very well with the Alternate Start mod. I'm using a controller but it still works fine. I will say though that when I re-open the journal, it doesn't go all the way down to where you left off but instead only seems to go halfway through what you have written. It is a shame that you cant mouse click to where you want to type but instead have to hold the arrow keys for forever depending on how much you have written. Still, the amount of immersion this mod adds to my wandering vault mercenary is great! Do recommend!
(Correction: If I hit the HOME key multiple times, the journal loads all the way to the end. Seems that depending on how many times you hit the HOME key affects on how far down it goes. Did not expect that.)

      Glad you like it!
I have 2 tips for you regarding moving the cursor:

      • The Page down and Page up keys are faster (I believe they skip 8 characters at a time instead of just 1)
      • You can edit the script to make the cursor move further down the text (be aware that doing so will make you need to wait a bit longer before you can navigate back through the text after opening)

The line you want to edit is 52 and is found in the gr_playerjournal.txt file, it looks like this:
      CallWhile rSpamPageDown ({} => (iCount += 1) <= 15)
Just change the 15 to a higher number, like maybe 20 or 25
