About this mod

You've heard of the ray gun, but what about the gay gun?

This mod adds 21 unique, automatic versions of the service rifle to the Mojave Wasteland, each of which has been painted with the colors of its associated "pre-war" flag. There's even a quest to try to locate them and their owners across the wastes!

The quest can be started in the motel office in Novac by picking up the advert holotape. The quest doesn't have markers, as there would be far too many, and so the quest gives you a note with a list of hints to help you out if you're having a hard time. But feel free to just grab the quest and explore the game in your leisure. Each gun was purchased by a character in the world who resonated with it, and you can attempt to purchase, barter, or steal the gun from them. Letting them keep the gun still progresses the quest. Since these are vanilla characters, we did this through message boxes to prioritize compatibility with other mods. Also, while Fallout New Vegas is a progressive game, there are many LGBTQIA+ identities not directly referenced in the game, and so we had to do some speculation to find characters that might identify with each gun. If you find this fan-fiction-y, that is fair, but we proceeded anyway, thinking hard how to justify each claim to queerness. Also, each weapon is altered from the default service rifle to make it potentially more powerful or versatile, and each is chambered for a different ammo type.

Some of these identities are well-known, but some are admittedly more obscure. So here's a breakdown of each of the unique pride guns you can find in this mod and what the identities mean. Keep in mind the labels are broad, and our singular definition should not be taken as the prescriptive decree:

But don't worry! We also included cisgender and heterosexual guns for balance.

In addition, this mod adds a perk that can be chosen at the level-up screen!
Spoiler:
Show
Perk: Armed Profligate
Description: The Legion may call you a profligate, but you're not going down without a fight. (You do 10% more damage with pride weapons.)
Effect: 10% more damage with all of the weapons added by this mod. There's also a few vanilla weapons, mostly uniques, that count towards this perk because we felt they gave off queer vibes, including the Cattle Prod, Yao Guai Gauntlet, She's Embrace, Annabelle, Dinner Bell, Love and Hate, and Christine's CoS Silencer Rifle.
Requirements: You must have taken either the Confirmed Bachelor or Cherchez La Femme perks before this one will become available, as a way of confirming you're playing a queer character via the vanilla perks. In addition, since most of these guns are found in the Mojave, players that have tons of modded worldspaces like us will find this perk useless before arriving to the Mojave, and so we made being in the Mojave Wasteland a requirement to obtain this perk. Unfortunately this does mean there are interiors and minor worldspaces where it won't appear in the list; our apologies.

Please be respectful. Don't be bigots. And fellow LGBTQIA+ folks, we ask that you not nitpick the flag choices. We tried our best when picking the flag colors, but infighting about the "correct" choice is just not an argument worth having in our opinion. And lastly, happy pride month!

Sincerely, Kyle and Kira
