I have found a fix for the textures that are glitching, below are the following steps;
This is what worked for me, I couldn't seem to do anything different to fix the glitching
You will require the use of the Green Beret Replacer mod due to the Green beret unable to fix the textures, I used the NCR Officer Peaked Cap - Beret Replacer mod by BurgermanJones
!!All files have to be installed manually!!
Please note: I wanted the LORE friendly option, I'm sure the same thing can be done with the other files if you wanted that
Using the two mod files - Better Beret Ranger NCR (100% works file) - Better Berets NCR
Step 1: Manually download both files and open both Step 2: Navigate to your file directory Steam>Steamapps>Common>Fallout New Vegas
Step 3: Starting with Better Beret Ranger NCR; - Navigate to texture path (Steam>Steamapps>Common>Fallout New Vegas>Data>Textures>Armor>Headgear) - With the Mod file open, follow the path for the mod till you reach RangerNEW.dds - Place only RangerNEW.dds into Headgear folder - Done
Step 4: with Better Beret Ranger NCR; - Navigate to meshes path (Steam>Steamapps>Common>Fallout New Vegas>Data>meshes>Armor>Headgear) - With the Mod file open, follow the path for the mod till you reach rangerhat (inside being Rangerhat.nif and Rangerhatgo.nif) - Place rangerhat file into Headgear folder - Done
Step 5: Now for the Better Berets NCR mod - Navigate to texture path (Steam>Steamapps>Common>Fallout New Vegas>Data>Textures>Armor>Headgear) - With the Mod file open, follow the path for the mod till you reach all the files under Headgear - Place ONLY outfit_rberet orig.dds into New Vegas Headgear file, all other files will cause texture glitch - Done
Step 6: - Navigate to meshes path (Steam>Steamapps>Common>Fallout New Vegas>Data>meshes>Armor>Headgear) - With the Mod file open, follow the path for the mod till you reach ranger hat and red beret folder - Place ONLY red beret folder into your directory under Headgear, overriding the previous rangerhat folder will cause the Ranger Beret not to show - Done
Step 7: Following the previous steps will allow both the Ranger Hat and 1st Recon berets to show as the mod shows, with no texture glitch. Nothing could be done to fix the Green beret from glitching.
I used the NCR Officer Peaked Cap - Beret Replacer mod by BurgermanJones - Install via Vortex mod manager (This is what I used, other managers or installing directly should be fine)
Point to note: Be VERY careful when installing via a Mod manger, if you have any mods which change anything regarding the Ranger Hat or Beret they will try to override and you will have to start over. If done correctly it should look like this
I hope this helps, I really liked this mod and was pretty gutted that the textures are bugging out.
If you have trouble with these steps reply to this and Ill try to explain further.
Based on limited testing on my end, the reason why the error happens is probably due to there being multiple nitrishapes. If there was one, it probably wouldn't (based on what I could tell) deform in the way that it does, but this is all speculation. I haven't done any further testing and decided not to generate EGM files.
Having trouble with the textures with this mod. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about - on the left is without the mod installed, and the two on the right are the 1st recon and NCR beret. It seems to lack a texture, and the texture green/gray texture on the beret changes depending on what I'm looking at/what weapon I'm holding. I've never had this issue before, on a vanilla item or otherwise.
Clearly this is something on my end, and I was told that using the "Reset Archive Invalidation" would solve it, but unfortunately this is not the case. Anything I could do? I've looked more into this and apparently if I delete the .dds file, it should revert to its vanilla texture. Is this something I should be doing? Thought I'd ask here before I start deleting stuff all nilly-willy.
Edit: Looking more into this, it's known as texture swapping, or texture flickering (though that applies to another issue as well, I've found in my searches). Apparently it has to do with too many mods (which I don't think is the case, as I only have 25 mods, while this becomes an issue at 100+), or if all textures do this, it has to do with "overloading your graphics VRAM caching." This only happens to me with the beret, with the mod installed, so neither of them are likely the case. I've verified game integrity and it has not helped.
I’m going to look into it as well, I’m still new to all this. Can you tell me which version you installed and which headgear has the problem? Thanks for the visuals.
Edit, Same thing is happening to me. (Using the Army berets). Granted, it’s my first time actually testing it. I’ll see what the hold up could be
I've downloaded the "Better Berets NCR RED GREEN" version. I can't think of any mods that would conflict with this, as I don't have any texture mods installed.
The only thing I can think of, off the top of my mind is Yukichigai Unofficial Patch, becuase when I installed this mod, I had to overwrite the meshes from Yukichigai Unofficial Patch (green_beret.nif and red_beret.nif). But I honestly think it's a red herring, because I only had to resolve the override with the mesh, and didn't have to touch the textures at all. But that was the only thing that conflicted.
Thanks for looking into it. I think - and I've said earlier - that it's on my end, because obviously other people who have installed it, have not brought up the issue. I'll have to look further into it, and see what comes up. And thanks for the quick response time.
I decided to create a backup and mess around with the files, and delete the .dds files (in the textures folder) as was suggested to me, which led to some interesting results.
On the left is the 1st Recon, and on the right is the NCR beret. The 1st Recon now has its original color, but for some reason, the NCR beret still does not revert to its vanilla textures. Both the flashes are messed up for obvious reasons (the vanilla textures do not line up with the mod's meshes), for no fault of the mod. Hope my foray into this helps your troubleshooting, though no doubt you are confused at the discrepancy between the 1st Recon and NCR beret's vanilla textures.
Summary: Deleting the textures that came with this mod is supposed to make the beret textures revert back to its vanilla textures. This occurred successfully for the 1st recon beret, which eliminated the "texture swapping." This did not occur with the NCR beret. I do not know why.
I made some progress. I deleted the newer textures and then re -linked the textures to the mesh through Outfit Studio. I'm going to rebuild the versions, test them out more, and re upload the mod. Life just got busy again so it may take a few days.
*Still need to figure out why the Vanilla emblems look all wonky since they were left untouched. (Seperated it from the vanilla mesh as its own mesh shape before modifying the beret mesh).
Looking forward to further progress. Obviously you are more experienced in this field than I am, so I don't think I'll be able to offer anything you aren't already aware of. But I wish you the best and will check back regularly. This is a great mod (judging from the screenshots) so I would love to use this as soon as possible.
I keep getting an issue where my beret chameleon copies whatever i'm looking at...and when it's not doing that it's using the Teeth + Gums texture...is there a fix for this or is something wrong with my game?
Yo if someone could give me a hand modifying the files in order to fix the texture issues I would really appreciate it, in a different situation i would have wait for the creator of the mod to fix it but it looks like he's going to be away from the pc for a long time still, thanks in advance
(If someone would be able to fix it altogether woukd also be amzing since the author gave the permission to download the assets in order to fix the mod!)

Happy Modding :)
