About this mod
Got a mission to do? Afraid the bad guys are going to see that pasty-white default face? You need a camouflage face paint re-texture! Thanks to my 3rd-grade paint.net skills, you and your companions can be cammied-up like true 1980's action heroes, and get those sneaky kills (disclaimer: does not add actual sneak bonus - it only looks cool)
- Permissions and credits
Mod adds re-textured face files. Must be manually installed. Do not use a mod manager of any sort - it won't work.
Install instructions:
1) MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF THE TEXTURE YOU WISH TO REPLACE. SAVE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE ON YOUR SYSTEM. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN REVERT TO THE ORIGINAL TEXTURES!
- Most of the face texture files are located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data\Textures\characters. If you're like me, and have slapped mods onto your game like poo in a monkey cage, it may take some hunting to find the right folder.
2) Manually download the face texture you want to a location outside of your Fallout data drive and unzip the file
3) Rename the texture file to exactly match the texture file you wish to replace, i.e., rename "Panama_F.dds" to "headhuman.dds." The name must be exactly the same as the file you wish to replace, and take care to leave the ".dds" file type on the rename.
4) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SAVED A BACKUP OF THE ORIGINAL TEXTURE
5) copy renamed file into the folder of the face texture you wish to replace, overwrite when prompted
6) slay enemies in-game with a vengeance, take cool screenshots
Note: if you change the textures in one of the 'general' file locations, such as: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data\Textures\characters\female, the face paint will show up on every character that uses those files. To get it to show up on just the PC, I use SiberianExpress's great mod "Custom Races:" https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35196?tab=files. Most complex follower mods use their own texture or .bsa files - you'll have to do some looking to find those.
If anybody knows a way to switch face textures on the GECK or with an .esp, please let me know!
As far as I know, the male and female faces textures aren't interchangeable. If anybody wants a re-texture of a face, drop me a PM, but honestly - once you open the .dds files and see my Crayola-tastic creations, it should be glaringly obvious how easy it is to create these re-textures, and how I am nowhere near a Dragbody or Kendo.
The face will not match your body textures anymore, so don't go to the pool with your cammo face paint on or you'll look like a tool. Wear a shirt while cammo'd up, and/or use a neck seam concealment necklace.
Uninstall: copy the original texture .dds file back into the location where it started (you did make a backup, right?)
The original female textures are from zzjay's beautiful "Mannequin Races" mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62785) and all credit for those models goes to the legendary zzjay. I have no idea who did the original male textures since I've done so much haphazard modding of my game over the years, if someone thinks that is their work, I will credit them if requested.
