Okay, I've imported default armor and exported it with your settings. My game crashes when I try to wear it. With default settings it's just invisible.

According to this thread, when exporting weapons from blender 'usebsfadenode root' must be selected

Because the newer version has problems when exporting nifs

There's a way to get the modern Blender to work in conjunction with Blender 2.49b...Simply export as .obj in the newer Blender and then import the .obj into Blender 2.49b then export as .nif...its not worth doing in my opinion, just stick with good old Blender 2.49b for all your New Vegas needs :D (Edit Note: Blender 2.49b run's extremely well on low end devices compared to the modern day versions of blender, there's noticeable choppiness and slight lag running on low end machines)
    3. You can simply save .blend file as "Legacy format" until Blender 2.79. For 2.8+ you just copypaste your meshes (yes, ctrl+c ctrl+v) from 2.8 to 2.79 and then - again - save as legacy.

Then do all export stuff from 2.49 as usual.

P.S. There is a lot of stuff in new blenders that make modeling and rigging life drastically better.

I was about to say this myself
I tried downgrading to 2.49 but the UI, missing features etc. make it impossible
For weapons, there's no need to downgrade; You can export objs and rig everything in nifskope.

When I try to import a mesh into Blender (.obj format, after converting in NifSkope?) it crashes.

Why is there no plugin tools for 2.7x versions? i personally have years of experience with weight painting and the mesh editing but absolutely archaic ui and tools of 2.49 makes it impossible to use it to any effective degree.

Hi, I'm new to this and simply worked with NifSkope for a while now becoming less and less satisfied by its limits. So I tried to import and edit an existing NIF file of Fallout4's "The Castle" in Blender 2.9 with the NIF plugin, but it always comes with an error called "string too long". So I followed the instructions in your tutorial and installed all correctly (Python 2.6, Blender 2.49b, PyFFI 2.1.5, Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5). But now I'm stuck. I click on File > Import > NetImmerse/Gamebryo and then a site opens asking for the NIF to open. So I choose the string and click on Import NIF. But then a new site with editable preferences opens. What do I have to do there? I just want to edit some walls ... no faces, animations or something like that. Thanks in advance.

Remember importing the minutemen outfit from FO4 into blender 2.49b...you'll need to convert it as an .obj file from nifskope...ValueError string too long is is due to the version number of the nif not being recognized by the nif scripts, blender 2.49b can only import FO3 & FNV .nif files, so if you convert them to .obj then import them into blender 2.49b then export as a .nif for FO3 or FNV :D

I'm having an issue where I export the weapons and when I place the weapons in the GECK I can't seem to move it around at all, you can see the weapon but I can't move it or set it on the ground. What could This be since I've actually followed everything in the screenshots to import/export the model properly?
