About this mod

A little more challenge for Vanilla, a little less pain in DUST.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Changelogs
The current version of this mod is 1.0

This mod works with both, Fallout DUST and Vanilla.

The problem
Vanilla players are used to having the ticks for NPCs displayed on the compass in the lower left. DUST players are used to not having these ticks displayed.

While some DUST players would like to have the ticks back, some Vanilla players want to try without them.

This solution
This mod, if used with Vanilla, will remove the NPC compass ticks, just as DUST does by default.

But this mod also introduces a way to get the NPC ticks back temporarily, which works exactly the same for DUST and Vanilla:

YDL-S, a non-addictive substance which will restore the NPC compass ticks for 240 real-time seconds. The mod includes a perk giving you 6 doses (or rather: 'Uses', think of the Vanilla implants) per day and an easy to craft recipe. Neither the perk nor the recipe are gated by any skill, stat or level checks, but the effect also does not scale with any of your skills or your level. It'll allways last for 240 real-time seconds per dose.

Details on YDL-S
  • Non-addictive, increases your sensorics for 240 real-time seconds, which re-enables the NPC ticks in your compass
  • Does not raise perception or any other stat
  • Campfire recipe for 'YDL-S, homemade', no skill check for crafting. Recipe is automatically added to list of known recipes.
  • Perk allowing giving 6 doses of 'YDL-S, endogenous' per day ('YDL-S Distiller'), no level, skill or stat gates attached. The number of doses is not cumultative, the perk just refills them to 6 every day.
  • 'YDL-S, homemade' and 'YDL-S, endogenous' work exactly the same. Non-addictive and NPC compass ticks back again for 240 real-time seconds per dose, no increase in perception

Recipe
Results in two doses of 'YDL-S, homemade' being crafted. Remember that there's also a perk.
  • 1 x Broc Flower
  • 1 x Buffalo Gourd Seed

Hint for DUST starters
You might be tempted to pump a lot of points into perception to make the regained NPC compass ticks more useful. I'd rather pump up INT / STR / END, unless I planned on taking any perk gated by perception.

Requirements
  • DUST, if you want to use YDL-S in DUST
  • None, if you want to use YDL-S in Vanilla

Installation
Copy KaPYDLS.esp into your Fallout:New Vegas data folder. DUST players need to have it loaded after DUST.

Deinstallation
Remove KaPYDLS.esp from your Fallout: New Vegas data folder. This will revert Vanilla back to its default behaviour, and DUST players will again be without means to get NPC ticks on their compass.

Incompatibilites
Since this mod dynamically fiddles with the display of the NPC compass ticks, it'll probably not play well with any mod trying to do the same.

Known Issues
  • NPC ticks on the compass might be visible for a split second when starting or reloading a game, even if you're not under the influence of YDL-S.
