Pack Brahmin for Sale

 
There are other mods that introduce a Pack Brahmin, but none of them for sale and none of them are available in Novac. I created this mod for two reasons: I wanted a pack brahmin that I could purchase in Novac and I wanted to work out a feature for a future mod.

Features:
  • Death - The pack brahmin can die and new one can be purchased after the current one respawns.
  • Healing - The pack brahmin can be healed through a menu if the player has a stempak. The amounting of healing improves at higher Medicine skills.
  • Combat Awareness - The pack brahmin tries to completely avoid combat.
  • Sneak Awareness - The pack brahmin will wait at it's current location when the player starts sneaking.
  • Tracking - With a one-time separate purchase of  transponder, the pack brahmin can be located by selecting the quest and following the quest marker.
  • Carry Weight - The pack brahmin has an additional 250 carry weight bonus on top of the calculated carry weight with a strength of 10.
  • Functioning Lantern - The player can choose whether or not to have the lantern on the pack brahmin turned on or off.

Death
  • The pack brahmin can die and new one can be purchased after the current one respawns. The pack brahim represents a huge bonus when it comes to carry weight. Death and the cost of purchase is a means to balance this bonus.

Healing
  • You pack brahmin does not immediately heal at the end of combat. You'll have to use stimpaks in order to heal the damage inflicted upon it. This is another means to balance the bonus of carry weight. Healing is possible through the control menu, but only when the brahmin is damaged does the "Check Health" option appear.

Combat Awareness
  • When following the player and the player enters combat, the pack brahmin will run in the opposite direction of the player until it has reached a distance of 2000 and it will continue to do so as long as the player is in combat. The pack brahmins is cowardly and does not assist its allies in a fight. The pack brahmin belongs only to the typical brahmin factions and will not be targeted by everything that attacks the player.

Sneak Awareness
  • When following the player and the player starts sneaking, the brahmin will wait for the player at it's current location and will continue to follow the player after the player quits sneaking.

Tracking
  • After purchasing a transponder the player will attach this transponder on the pack brahmin the next time the brahmin is activated. If the pack brahmin dies the player will be able to remove the transponder from the pack brahmin by crouching.  Attaching the transponder to the brahmin makes the brahmin a quest item. The brahmin will not respawn until the sometime after the transponder is removed. While the transponder is attached to the brahmin, the player will be able to locate the it by selecting the quest in the pip boy. This means that a transponder will ultimately provide insurance for the recovery of the items the pack brahmin is carrying.

Carry Weight
  • The pack brahmin has an additional 250 carry weight bonus on top of the calculated carry weight with a strength of 10. With vanilla settings, this provides a carry weight of 500. If other mods adjust the settings that affect carry weight, this value will be different.

Functioning Lantern
  • By activating the pack brahmin while crouching you will have access to the a control menu where you can toggle the lantern on and off. While this feature works as intended, it could use a bit of work in order to look nicer. For now a light shows, but the appearance of the lantern itself doesn't change. It kinda looks a little odd.

Hint:

The Pack Brahmin will not be available until a specific task is accomplished in Novac. If you want the specifics, check out the spoilers topic under the forums tab.

Concerns:

One concern I have so far is body part damage. I am not sure if there brahmin will move slower when it's left or right legs are damaged. I tried damaging the values related to them in console and the brahmin does limp when moving slower, but it will still run to catch up.

Debugging:
    
If you are having problems that you think are related to my mod, please use FNVEdit to check for conflicts between my mod and any of the mod in your load order. If don't do this, be warned that I might ask you do so, to help me figure out the problem you are having. I do want to know about conflicts or if there are simply bugs in this mod. It's a relatively simple mod that I have tested, so there shouldn't be any real problems. Please use "Bugs" feature provide by the Nexus to report any problems that you might find with my mod.

I have provided a debugging helper file in the options section that will include assets that if changed by other mods, might affect this mod. You can use the debug helper file to help quickly locate conflicts with vanilla assets in FNVEdit. If loaded last in your load order, the debug helper will help revert these assets to vanilla settings when the game loads. Doing this will help determine if the problem is this mod or another mod you are running.

Known Conflicts:

  • MMUE v12.1 - It makes a change that will prevent the purchase of the pack brahmin completely. A patch is included in the optional files. Future versions of this mod will not likely require an update to the patch, unless I change a specific script. If such a change were to occur, I will move the patch to the older versions section, change the description to note the newest file it patches and upload a new version of the patch.

Because this mod adds items to two cells (an interior cell and an exterior cell) it can cause conflicts with mods that change lighting, weather or sound. These types of mods should always be loaded after mods that add items to cells.

Known Compatibilities:


Pack Brahmin for Sale may work with other mods. I have personally tested the mods listed above. Mods were tested that would have the potential to make changes to the vanilla assets this mod requires. I didn't list my full load order. Most mods should be compatible.
