What would you guys like to see implemented in the Fallout 4 version of DUST? This can include things that you wanted to see in DUST, but were unable to be implemented, or completely new atmospheric or gameplay elements.
For example, I plan on minimizing the possibility of "dump stats" and work on the NPC/Player interaction so its not always a shoot on sight situation. I also might work on easing the player into the world a bit more, since that seemed to be the #1 complaint among beginner players.
I realize its pretty early for this kind of thing, but I figure its best to get some ideas of what should be done before I begin serious planning and work. Thanks for the feedback!

    Cannibal everything!
-I want the PC's death cam to linger a little longer, so you can see the savages or mutants eating your corpse (the cannibal animation)

-In my mind, this is a great idea: If you manage to knock someone (or something) over, and your strength exceeds theirs, you should be able to eat them alive! Just to make you even more into a total psycho.

-Eating a cannibal enemy in front of their cannibal friends should pacify them (even if only for a little while)

-Vampirism. (kind of like the dine and dash perk, except requiring an empty syringe and a soda bottle or something, would reduce thirst instead of hunger.)

-Eating a person makes their corpses drop mutilated limbs, which you could craft into special weapons (maybe they could cause certain enemies to flee at the start of combat, like the terrifying presence perk)

I might post a few other suggestions later, but I want to restate some of my favorite ideas I've seen in this thread so far:
-Degrading weapons (really adds to stress)
-Crazed robots (That broadcast distorted gibberish. Maybe emits Dead money-esque harmful frequencies that can kill you?)
-Lots of spooky insanity effects! (happy music, talking radios, nightmare monsters, HUD effects)
-Reduce VATS distance (adds even more to stress levels)

I don't even OWN Fallout 4 yet and I am so excited!

    EDIT: One more siggestion:

-lots of fog/frost. Certain robot enemies could maybe have massive "fog light" eyes that you could see piercing through it.

    1. AUTOMATIC VARIANTS. That way we get some diverse enemies.

    2. A wider expansion upon the existing 'pipe' weapons. Maybe like varied textures.

    3. The return of the Tunnelers. Just to f*#@ with people.

    4. Crazed robot enemies with unique combat chatter. Like distorted static and crazed, nonsensically inane and broken gibberish.

    5. Companions? I don't know, it might not fit your vision.

    6. The player character this time around is a Synth. They may or may not realize this.

    7. Little to no power armor, anywhere. For the sake of the game-play's challenge.

    8. Ambient music that matches the atmosphere.

    9. More situations like the that of the Wendigo. Situations where you have no choice but to run and hide. Loved Zion for that.

    10. Crank the spookiness up a ton! Survival horror all the way, baby! (Think Stephen King's The Mist and The Dark Tower series.)

Thank you for all your hard work, Naugrim. Your DUST mod got me through some rough times by allowing me to escape reality, even if it was only for a few hours at a time.

Could we have an optional version that is based off the vanilla game storyline.

Could you elaborate? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

This mods game mechanics but with a modified version of the vanilla storyline. Set during the time of the game.

Probably not. There are tons of game mechanic mods already out there that you could combine to get a FROST-esque feel. The majority of the work I'll be doing is transforming the world into another setting.

I think it's better without the storyline.
The main thing I like about DUST is that you're not the "main hero" you're just a random survivor.

No fog, I dislike the fact that there is a huge fog always surrounding the player character in Dust

I think it adds to the suspension and atmosphere that you don't know what's ahead.
I personally would like a permanent radstorm in Fallout 4. But just the weather, not actual radiation.

    No respawning enemies
If you kill someone/something, it should remain dead.
Instead of respawning to keep the game "alive", make the characters roam the wasteland, for example make the survivors move from location to location scavenging for supplies.

    Character interaction.
I met some friendly survivors in Dust but there was never any interaction. At least make them trade with you, or maybe make some little quests like "My friend has some serious wounds, if you help us and bring me some stimpacks I can give you this special weapon"

i really want to see some form of freindly humanitarian contact or a human driven city with civilians trying to stay alive from the bombs, or maybe even just contact with freindly robots? i mean im sure alot more Mr handy's would be up and around before their demise after only 5 years then after 200? and i doubt humanity would fall apart immediately, sure it would be mostly destroyed. but a few factions like vault 81 and the institute might perhaps be somewhat freindly offering safe havens to the player? although it would be just as easy for a raider group to come assault them too. i'd also like to see clothing/armor have negligible benefits at most allowing you to survive a hit or two and never to the head. i doubt super mutants would exist at all due to the institute not creating them yet, nor would many of the mutated creatures. far harbor should be pretty much deserted and only a frozen radioactive zone with perhaps some nice pre war loot. i doubt the world's prewar ammunition would dissapear within 5 years so that should still be in abundance but only in select places like police and military zones and rarely found anywhere else. junk ammo and weapons should be an abundance for raiders. gas masks should be mandatory, and the glowing sea should pretty much be a killzone without some really good radiation protection, untouched by pretty much anything holding only the crater and the radiation from it. abilities such as pacifying individuals shouldn't be perks and should be available from the get go. Vault 111 perhaps could be able to be broken into, only to find hostile vault tec scientists that hold the frozen individuals within. vaults should be somewhat accessible if you manage to obtain one of the rare and cultivated pipboys, although most except perhaps vault 81 are all hostile.

HUGE EDIT: i had an idea that perhaps you could lock the player to only being able to level up and gain there perks when at a bed and out of combat? for example your finally in a safe place and next to a bed and your click on it and hit an option called reflect and that will bring you to the perk poster?
You should also add another menu under the reflect option for survival skills. this way you can only reflect and learn "survival skills" (similar to skills in other fallouts) that will help you survive out in the waste's and your level on the chart affects how well you can do things and leveling up said skills may allow you to create better things or do things easier. Using the reflect option at a bed should also allow you to actually learn things from skill books which i believe should also be added into the game. actually doing things (aka surviving) and reading the skill books should be the only way to bring up your survival skills (which should be things such as lockpicking, using guns, how long you can tolerate being hungry/thirsty, medicinal, and maybe even drug use, i mean not everyone is somehow hugely immune to using drugs and becomeing addicted to them) stimpacks should also form addictions and be far rarer only located in hospitals and on corpses.

Hope work on your future mod is going well naugrim04!!!!

      Exactly this.
Something like the Understone mod for New Vegas DUST, but already implemented in the Fallout 4 DUST

I know you havent really havent said what settlemeant building is goint to be like, but say you have no settlers, no food, nothing. All you have is your small amounts of gear you have stored, and say uoi are leaving in somthis realy cool like the bus above graygarden like i am, and you have the new powerd door being powered with the windmill that took me foreever but i leave because my stuff is safe, but couldnt the raiders or scavers come in and seal all of your verry hard earned gear

sorry for the little storry part lol

Gear placed in homes will be totally safe. What's subject to theft is the stuff you take with you. Dying will rob you of your inventory, so stashing rare and high-quality loot back home will be a smart move.

Yep. Players will retain their perks and level from death to death but they will lose any loot that is on them.

You will have to make it so people can get their stuff back or you will find people won't like that. If it happens a couple times (and you will die, you always die), and that will be that. People will get pissed and not play. Who doesn't get pissed when they die and don't lose their stuff?

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but the main thing I'd like to see is a return of weapons and armor degradation. Fallout 4 dropping that for everything but power armor was one of the main things I disliked about the new game, since it removed one of the key challenges and immersive elements of the prior two games. I haven't been following Fallout 4 mods as I have for New Vegas so I don't know if re-enabling repair is something has already been done extensively or if the base game makes that too complicated, though a quick scan shows at least one mod attempting it: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17156/

The other thing I would like to see in a FO4 overhaul are more interesting perks. The FO4 ones seem so generic and broadly utilitarian compared to the much quirkier New Vegas ones. I'm talking about the ones that: only apply to very particular sets of weapons, not broad categories (I.e. Pyromaniac, Cowboy, etc); against particular opponents or under particular circumstances (I.e Entomologist, Travel Light, etc); or that open up odd abilities (Nuka Chemist, Jury Rigger, etc). I did like how Dust made most perks essentially traits, since it forced me to really think about what was best for my character and how I wanted to play. Even in the vanilla versions of FO3 and FNV the limit on the number perks a character could get forced something like that. FO4's unlimited perks took that away.

I hope this project won't be abandoned and you will improve upon previous version of Dust. You should revamp entire radiation mechanic, make it more fluid, and just standing naked in the wild lead to inevitable death. Constant radiation without at least a gas mask as a requirement. No mercy for being not prepared for radiated environment. Make it more random for unprepared player and replayability factor, create new alternative start mechanic, more roguelike maybe, take example from random alternative start mod for skyrim, which randomly put player into any existing location possible and make player scavenge for equipment from locations where he didn't expected to appear in.

Along with that improve on scavenging random junk and rebalance resources you gain from it, create broken versions of same junk, worse versions of chemicals, or fake items which effects would be opposite of what you are expecting from them, or give lethal dose of radiation. Settlement building should get more dangerous and expensive, raids must not be easy to defeat, to prove that raiders are going to fight to the death to scavenge what you have built. Perks are extremely over powered now, so you would want to rebalance them entirely, i suggest creating your own perks from scratch.

Anyway, it requires gigantic amount of work, i hope you will make what you think is best, and actually provide excellent dust experience on f4 engine. Good luck.

It fit original DUST perfectly. Maybe there's a place for it?
