As in no attacking cannibal settlements. if wandering cannibals attack it doesnt count, because I dont like running away like a dog with tail between legs.
Also no attacking tribal settlements. if wandering tribals attack it doesnt count, because I dont like running away like a dog with tail between legs.
Cannibals do have some interesting equipments. If you dont attack them, very hard to acquire a makeshift shotgun.
I've thought of a small challenge, It's called Pack Light! You can only have two guns, a melee, and 2 explosive types, and one more gun when you find a backpack of any kind, you can, however pick up weapons to repair your own weapons.
Play as a Child character, and intentionally leave your str and end below 5 (How low is up to you). You must max out Sneak and Lockpicking first. Attempt the Divide.
My next challenge is using Bullet Time instead of VATS. I realise using Bullet Time has brought the fun in DUST to a different level. It makes the player feel less OP and prompts him to engage enemies in combat in a tactical way. Imo, it fits more of a survival experience and this is how DUST should be played.
Really? For my other playthroughs I used bullet-time relegiously, and found it infinitely more exploitable than VATS. Maybe because I as a player am a lot more accurate than "26%". In my latest playthroughs, I've had to simply turn it off because it was too cheep.
I've been relying less on Bullet Time since I started my new character in very difficult setting. I use it sometimes when I'm on low on ammo. And I don't buy any items or ammo from merchants - which is also one of my current challenges. It's really hard, but it's more of the survival experience than on my previous character.
U can always use laser or plasma weapons whenever u're running low on gunpowdered ammo. So far I've about 400 energy cells, 150 microfusion cells and 15 fission batteries as reserves.
Yeah, my main mistake in my first file though was trying to have energy weapons as my primary. I ended up having to switch over to guns, and by the end of my some 30 or 40 hour long file, I had only amassed a whopping 200 microfusion cells. DUST pretty effectively negates the Energy Weapons skills, just as it does Speech. Using them for when you start to run out of ammo for your main gun though, is pretty clever.
Currently a fair ways through a mostly vanilla playthrough of DUST. No Bullet Time, no Sprint, all Project Nevada setting set to vanilla settings. There is a bit of cheating - in that I have some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. weapons installed and have been able to equip Power Armor (even though it's more than a third my carry weight- holy man). In addition though, I found that after a few hours I hadn't used Stimpacks - so now I'm also going for a no Stimpacks run.
My latest challenge is "Post-War Only". I can't use anything that would have existed in the Old World. That includes not only weapons and armor, but chems, food and ammo as well (Junk Rounds only). The lack of Stimpacks is really hitting me.
UPDATE: I hit rock bottom outside of Camp Golf. Everything broken and two throwing spears to defend myself from the hoards of Tunnelers. I had to give up a desperately needed Doctor's Bag to stick to my challenge. I've since acquired a Crossbow, and things are looking up, although I still have three crippled limbs.
My current challenge, besides not dying, is to see how many NCR dog tags I can collect in one playthrough. I'll teach them to vilify me over an accident beyond my control! Right now I have 254 which has already exceeded my expectations. I'm on the strip now so the running total still has room for some improvement
A challenge doesn't necessarily involve anything other than setting a goal. I already play different builds. This one's a permadeath run primarily using Sneak with Melee and Explosives. I use a hand Gun (Desert Eagle) when I'm likely to be overwhelmed. Have you been to the Divide? Sheesh! There's plenty out to getcha there.
Edit: Almost forgot, and how many Dog Tags have 'you' got, JoshDaDirt?
Update: Upon completion of that playthrough, my total was 287 - beat that.
You mean with all their fancy smancy death dealing weapons, infra red vision targeting visors, and humungous inventories etc.? That just makes me smile - especially when they have followers or an army along. It's not really in keeping with the spirit of DUST - okay, it's completely out of kilter with the spirit of DUST - but as long as folk are having fun that's all that really matters.
Are there any who don't cheat, MrSpanky? I know I'm expecting too much from them, but it would be fun to see someone use montage to cover up for their flaws instead of cheating their way through the mod.
Well as I just posted I just got to goodsprings from freeside(no I didn't spawn there) and i have 31 Bos holotags and I'm at 160 ncr dogtags (162 if you count the ncr trooper's head and the dog tag fists) I've also hit 20 star bottle caps and for a reason i can only describe as bieng unable to part with unique items but I'm still carrying around one of the Chinese stealth armors from Hoover damn
You know I use the fnv npcs travel mod so the wasteland isn't completely empty of traders. Is it wrong that I always trade with them then brutally murder them ?
also try this mod out it works really well with dust and I will use it always its called F3FH and it changes vanilla and dlc food items to use a fallout 3 style instant food healing
" AlChestBreach is probably the least of the cheaters,I did fire Ghoul Buddy after he found out its too OP "
I like Al (like everyone should) but he plays in non-hardcore with the excuse that the mod doesnt automatically switch on by default. He also started out the first levels, which is the difficult one, with companions. Sleep healing ans stimpak limb healing are abused also.
is it cheating to have a companion with a lower health than me and a W.A.S (weak as s#*!) switchblade using him as a packmule or a bulletsponge style distraction?
I've been collecting magazines for the last few playthroughs I've done and have purposely avoided using them by substituting them with chems/alcohol. Not much sense in hoarding them and ignoring their proper use, but if I ever need to cook up some dog steaks in a jiff, I've got plenty of firestarter material!

100% agree with you MrSpanky, those kind of mods give modders and modding community a bad name, and MMOxReview doesn't even help by advertising them, but hey if thats your thing his channel must be paradise
I had a challenge for myself to only use makeshift weaponry of any kind and to only use "makeshift-ish" armor (like tribal armor) with my default difficulty settings (Normal w/ Hardcore mode on). I would force myself to pick up makeshift weaponry and armor, wouldn't pick up a good piece of armor to sell later on. Not sure if I'm going to fully take that one on or not though, but it was a cool idea to try regardless.
sounds like it would look interesting (more interesting than running around the wasteland shooting tunelers with vanilla and dlc weapons just because their more powerful)no offence al

Tribals are mostly a matter of less anarchy.
Survivors are mixed bag, thus free game, though~

I always fail at it.

this is my favorite mod (no offence naugrim)

Still, enjoyable to watch :-)

yeah, about that...
I like him, too, but my fav has to be MMOxReview. Off the wall!
Insanity took over in real life i see...
MMOX-boobs-and-butts-review should be dumped in a pool of rads.
