As SunnyDove has helpfully pointed out, there was a mistake in the original instructions.
For now I will upload a hastily corrected version as the ReadMe for this file, just until I can do a more thorough check and update all files properly.
I'm running the GOG version of FO3 and using all the relevant mods to make this run on Windows 11, using Vortex. I could not find any voice files within the game so I ended up downloading the FO3 Ghoul lines online which of course didn't contain the .lip files. :(
Anyway, thought I'd try and at least make a go of it, and found 11 of the required .ogg files but got lost trying to rename them into the 41 required files. Put this in the too-hard basket.... not meant to be. :(
Aw HELL yeah, I was worried I'd have to make this myself, and it took me two days to do a minor overhaul of Megaton house in 3. I'd have been at it for months. Thanks, OP!
Alriiiiight, I fixed the melee only issue! I *think* what was happening is, the shotgun is set to 0 AP, so whenever he's told to use ranged, he'll pull out the shotgun, have no resource to use it and stand around until he's close enough for melee to trigger. I also noticed that whenever he was told to use ranged, it would reset when I entered a new area.
Here's what I changed, I'm pretty sure it was the AP thing, but I don't honestly know cos I did all these at once, so probably best you make all these tweaks and edit the numbers to your liking - all in his weapon listing in GECK:
- Checked AP box, set to 40 (used Boone as a basis to choose that - he's my other comp right now, no other reason - you can give more or less) - Set Strength req to 3 and Skill req to 10, just so they weren't zero - Set Kill Impulse and Impulse Dist both to 5
Save, close GECK, open game - Charon should now be able to use his shotgun! Reset issue should also be fixed - just tested and he's still using ranged after a new area load. Hurray! :D Thanks again to MutieB!
took me FOREVER to find his contract! just a tip for anyone else struggling, without spoilers--
check out all of the objects in the room.
Also, not sure how many people would actually run into this, but if you try to get into the strip with charon, the securitrons at the gate will become aggressive. just ignore them and enter the strip-- the securitrons inside the strip do not engage.
Hi. I added and renamed voice and lip files according to instructions, but I still can't get Charon to talk. He uses generic male ghoul voice from NV in battle, but no voice in the dialogue. Is there anything I missed? I'm using vanilla version. upd. Nevermind. I or my mod manager messed up the placement of charon.esp folder in the sound. All fixed now. Glad to have my big grumpy guy back)
