Description
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sol Minigun is a weapon of pure destruction. It's features include rechargeable ammunition, a more durable frame, brutal attack capabilities, and an increased rate of fire over it's brothers (or sisters).

Due to the nature of the heated casings they soften enemy armor, making the molten penetration of this weapon superior to any other in it's class. As well as the natural intensity of their heat, the casing production system built into the frame will draw power from the radiation and UV light spectrum of the Sun's solar rays beating down on the wasteland. This mechanism has been developed (quite accidentally) so that it can also work in the dark of night, absorbing what light has reflected off the surface of the moon.

On top of it's superior firepower, Sol boasts remarkable endurance. Studies into the Duraframe Eyebot armor, and it's implementation into conventional warfare, have made it possible for the creation of this beast. Considering the nature of it's ammunition, the Sol Minigun required a heat resistant shell, as well as thick internal armor plating, so that it could continuously fire these molten charges and still remain useful after long periods of time. Luckily, thanks to military know-how, this weapon was also created with repair in mind (in case the unthinkable happened and it broke). So it's parts were made in similar design and fashion to the generic minigun of it's time, that way the wielder (In the event they were the only one left alive) wouldn't have to worry about making another one.

Sol was developed with a faster spinning mechanism so that the user wouldn't have to worry much about what he was shooting at. As long as he had his fingers holding down the trigger, he knew that everything would soon be dead. Much to the dismay of the scientists that designed this weapon, they soon found out that simply touching the firing mechanism would send it on a killing spree. After Sol arrived at the new facility (since it destroyed the last one) it's new caretakers (since it killed the others) decided it best to alter the spin so it had to build up to it's firing stage. They, obviously, survived to see it's final production.

These new scientists were a bit strange compared to the last ones though, because they thought it would be a good idea to INCREASE Sol's destructive capabilities. They applied some modifications to the device that recycled an extra waveform of the light spectrum making it regenerate it's casings faster, thus giving it a higher death per minute count (I guess that's cool. It was war, right?). Included in these additions they added a new power core that could heat the charges faster, but also make them HOTTER. As if melting your enemy's armor to their flesh wasn't enough, they wanted to melt their bones, too. Which led to some confusion when making a final body count (It's kinda hard to count what isn't there anymore). They also threw in some bigger batteries, I guess. You know, so you could kill more people without having to wait for a recharge. But those aren't as exciting.

Unfortunately, due to the very nature of this weapon, the government had its development scrapped just before it went into mass production. I guess they didn't like the idea of winning any wars, or averting total annihilation. So as far as we know, there's only the one prototype in existence. Kinda sucks for everybody else, huh?

Where It Is
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The NCR was able to find this weapon in a destroyed military research facility somewhere near the west coast. So far they haven't figured out how to use it (probably thought it was an overweight representation of a real gun). I guess it get's really boring at the Dam because they just stuck it in with the rest of their supplies and just let it collect dust. I bet the guy who watches over the stuff just sits at his desk all day and maybe, just maybe, eats a sandwich or something sometimes. Must be a genetic thing, being that boring.
