The Med-Tek Trauma Kit offers users a new healing system for treating injured and crippled body parts in a balanced way without bogging the player down in overly complex treatment options and a plethora of medical supplies. Based on Kearsage's original Triage mod for Fallout 3 - and extensively overhauled for New Vegas.

Changelogs
Version 2g
Added new [Perform Trauma Diagnosis] button to Med-Tek Trauma Kit menus. Performing a Trauma Diagnosis will display the exact HP of all your body parts. Now there's no need to quit out of the Trauma Kit menus to see how damaged your limbs are before you perform a fix. All the information you need is now in one place!
Version 2f
Brand new Med-Tek Trauma Kit icon. Comprised of original icons drawn by me and some by T3T from his Misc. Item Icon mod.
Version 2e
Added automatic Doctor's Bag unpacking system. No need to leave the menu, unpack Doctor's Bags, and re-enter the Trauma Kit menu again before you can recover body parts.
E.g. When you have only a Stimpak and a Doctor's Bag in your inventory and you need to heal your arm, selecting your arm within the Med-Tek Trauma Kit menu will heal your arm (using the Medical Brace within the Doctor's Bag) and add Surgical Supplies to your inventory (leftover items from the automatic unpacking of the Doctor's Bag). Same thing applies for healing body parts. If you do not possess any Stimpaks, but have Doctor's Bags and are attempting to heal a limb in the Trauma Kit, the system will automatically unpack the Doctor's Bag for you.
Tweaked menu info. Med-Tek Trauma Kit menu now shows quantities of all relevant materials: Doctor's Bags, Stimpaks, Medical Braces, and Surgical Supplies.
The Med-Tek Trauma Kit menu can be opened without any Stimpaks in your inventory.
New missing supplies message. When attempting to recover/heal a body part, an appropriate message will pop up telling you exactly what you're missing (e.g. "You lack the Medical Brace and Stimpak needed to recover this body part", or "You lack the Medical Brace needed to recover this body part", etc.).
Changed Chest med skill formula from 'Medicine Skill / 2' to 'Medicine Skill * 0.5' in script just for simplicities sake. Updated in-game note to reflect this.
Changed Head med skill formula from 'Medicine Skill / 4' to 'Medicine Skill * 0.25' in script just for simplicities sake. Updated in-game note to reflect this.
Changed Doctor's Bag use sound from "NPCHumanSwatFly" to a new rummaging sound effect. Also removed small icon (which was erroneously set to show Mentats).
Changed Medical Brace weight from 2 to 1. Value changed from 20 to 30.
Surgical Supplies value changed from 20 to 30.
Changed Doctor's Bag weight from 1 to 1.5.
Deleted unused messages, scripts, quests, sounds, and other miscellaneous entries.
Version 2d
Added new icon and model for Surgical Supplies.
Version 2c
Recipes for crafting medical braces and surgical supplies.
Medical Brace: 1 Scrap Metal 2 Leather Belts
Surgical Supplies: 1 Scrap Electronics (the spare wires are used as a tourniquet of sorts?) 1 Duct Tape (as medical tape) 1 Pre-War Money (as bandage pads)
If anyone has a better idea for crafting ingredients, let me know.
Version 2c changes the healing mechanics around quite a bit! I'll first describe how previous versions used to work.
Prior to 2c, the Med-Tek Trauma Kit mod behaved just like the original Triage mod for FO3 with some very minor tweaks.
Basically, if your Medicine skill was anywhere below 40, you were unable to perform anything but First Aid. First Aid allowed you to heal just arms and legs to 5 HP, nothing more. First Aid procedures still took up supplies (medical brace/surgical supplies) and a stimpak to perform the fix, despite the lowly HP recovery. In retrospect, this was a huge waste of supplies considering how easily that 5 HP can be lost again. Anyways...
Prior to 2c, when you reached Medicine 40, you'd be given the Wasteland Doctor perk, which allows you to: - Recover crippled arms and legs to 100 HP (1 HP/s over 100 seconds). - Heal partially injured injured arms or legs by 100 HP (1 HP/s over 100 seconds) - Recover a crippled head or chest only by First Aid, to 5 HP max. - Have a chance to recover medical braces based on your Medicine skill (Med Skill * 0.75 chance).
At this point you're unable to further heal your head or chest without progressing to Medicine 75. Any points invested in Medicine from 40-60 make no difference in terms of actual healing until you pass the hard threshold of 60.
At Medicine 60, you receive the Wasteland Surgeon perk, which allows you to: - Recover crippled arms or legs to 100 HP twice as fast (2 HP/s over 50 seconds). - Heal injured arms or legs by 100 HP twice as fast (2 HP/s over 50 seconds). - Recover a crippled head or chest to 100 HP (1 HP/s over 100 seconds). - Heal injured head or chest by 100 HP (1 HP/s over 100 seconds). - Have a chance to recover surgical supplies based on your Medicine skill (Med Skill * 0.75 chance).
As you can see, there is little point to progressing beyond Medicine 60 strictly for healing, as it no longer makes a different. Also, with the was the older versions were, there was no gradual improvement on healing as you gained points in medicine. Overall, despite being made to make the game more challenging, in actuality, it was quite easy to master medicine with this system.
I wanted to make the new version of the Med-Tek Trauma Kit mod a little more gradual in terms of medicine improvement. Certain abilities are restricted until milestones/thresholds (of which there are more now) are reached.
The perks are removed entirely as they didn't do anything in actuality, they were just there to let you know when you had new abilities, but now the Med-Tek Trauma Kit menu will let you know of your current Medicine level and the body parts and abilities you can heal/use are dynamic and will not show if you are unable to Please see the mod's main description page to see at what Medicine skill level abilities are unlocked. Also, I wanted the mod to take into account even smaller changes in medicine your medicine skill.
With Version 2c, the amount you heal correlates directly with your exact investment in medicine. Depending on the body part you're healing, your medicine skill may be halved/quartered, etc., to simulate greater difficulty in healing certain body parts. From easiest to heal to most difficult: arms and legs (1:1 Med Skill), chest (1/2 Med Skill), head (1/4 Med Skill).
Also, due to changes in the scripting, the mod no longer casts an actor effect on the player to heal body parts over time. It's just a pain for me to write roundabout scripts like that, and I didn't really feel the healing over time made a difference to the gameplay anyways.
When body parts are healed, messages will appear in the top-left corner telling you how much HP was recovered on the respective body part.
Overall, I feel that these tweaks truly make crippled/injured limbs a much more serious matter - as the mod originally promised - and makes it so every point in Medicine makes a difference.
Version 1d
Version 1d adds the changes that 1c was meant to have...
Version 1c
Doctor's Bag unpacking is now done manually by the player to prevent issues with quests involving Doctor's Bags.
The Med-Tek Trauma Kit offers users a new healing system for treating injured and crippled body parts in a balanced way without bogging the player down in overly complex treatment options and a plethora of medical supplies.
Med-Tek Trauma Kit - A Medical Mod for Healing Crippled and Injured Limbs and Body Parts is based on Kearsage's original Triage mod for Fallout 3 - and has been extensively overhauled for New Vegas.
The Med-Tek Trauma Kit was designed to be used with Fallout: New Vegas' Hardcore Mode!
OVERVIEW:
Even in New Vegas' Hardcore mode, the matter of resetting your mangled bones and alleviating your seared/punctured/torn flesh is still too simple of a fix! With a single click on a Doctor's Bag, you can heal any of your body parts instantly, no matter your medicine skill level, and even in the middle of a shootout! This mod aims to change that.
While serious injuries such as broken bones and head trauma may not kill you outright, they will now require your character to specialize some in Medicine in order to treat them. Getting crippled is now a much more serious matter.
DETAILS:
The Med-Tek Trauma Kit offers users a new healing system for treating injured and crippled body parts. Equip the Med-Tek Trauma Kit within the [APPAREL] section of your Pip-Boy to treat your injuries.
- Healing crippled arms or legs requires a Medical Brace and a Stimpak. - Healing a crippled head or chest requires Surgical Supplies and a Stimpak. - Healing partially injured body parts requires one Stimpak per treatment.
(You will find the above-mentioned medical supplies in Doctor's Bags. "Activating" a Doctor's Bag will unpack it and add a Medical Brace, Surgical Supplies, and a Stimpak to your inventory.)
Your skill point investment in Medicine directly determines the number of hitpoints you recover with each treatment. (To simplify, Medicine 50 will allow you to recover 50 HP to body parts. However, there are some caveats to this. Please continue reading to learn more.)
In order to heal more severe injuries and perform medical procedures more effectively, you must pass certain Medicine milestones (reached at Medicine 25, 50, 75, and 100).
Keep in mind, stat boosting items (e.g. Today's Physician magazines, Mentats, etc.) can be used to temporarily raise your Medicine skill level, allowing you to perform medical tasks that are beyond your "real" skill level. Alternatively, visit a doctor if your skill is insufficient.
WARNING: The Med-Tek Trauma Kit cannot be used in combat!
Examine the details and abilities of each Medicine skill tier below:
Medicine 1-24
Your minimal experience in medicine allows you to:
- Recover crippled arms and legs by the value of your Medicine skill (1-24 HP).
Healing a crippled head or chest, or further healing injured legs or arms, is beyond your skill level.
Medicine 25-49
Your improved experience in medicine now allows you to:
- Recover crippled arms or legs by the improved value of your Medicine skill (25-49 HP).
Recovering a crippled head or chest, or further healing injured legs or arms, requires the experience of the subsequent medicine skill tier.
Medicine 50-74
Your extensive experience in medicine now allows you to:
- Recover crippled arms or legs by the improved value of your Medicine skill (50-74 HP). - Heal injured arms or legs by the improved value of your Medicine skill (50-74 HP) per treatment. - Recover a crippled head by the value of your Medicine Skill x 0.25. - Recover a crippled chest by the value of your Medicine Skill x 0.5.
Further healing an injured head or chest requires the expertise of the subsequent medicine skill tier.
Medicine 75-100
Your mastery of medicine now allows you to:
- Recover crippled arms or legs by the improved value of your Medicine skill (75-100 HP). - Heal injured arms or legs by the improved value of your Medicine skill (75-100 HP) per treatment. - Recover a crippled head by the improved value of your Medicine Skill x 0.25. - Recover a crippled chest by the improved value of your Medicine Skill x 0.5. - Heal an injured head by the value of your Medicine Skill x 0.25 per treatment. - Heal an injured chest by the value of your Medicine Skill x 0.5 per treatment.
Furthermore, Hydra no longer heals your limbs, instead, it allows you to ignore your crippled limbs for 240 seconds. Med-X retains its original effects (25% damage resistance). The Healing Poultice, Weapon Binding Ritual, and Daturana from Honest Hearts have also had their limb healing effects replaced with a temporary ignore crippled limbs effect (for 120 seconds) in a separate patch.
ADDITIONAL NOTES / TROUBLESHOOTING:
This mod will cause conflicts with any mod that changes Doctor's Bags, Med-X, medical braces and surgical tubing. To avoid issues, it is recommended that you load this mod later in your load order.
