Haven't updated this mod in a hot minute! I've taken your feedback into account and had been making edits of my own over the years without updating, so here's some changes:
Assault carbine > "Colt XM177"
Lever action shotgun > "Winchester Model 1901"
9mm pistol > "M&P 9mm pistol" (apparently it was branded in universe, I had no idea of this)
9mm SMG > Chryslus Greaser (Changed, since while GM may have existed in the Fallout timeline, the connection to a known Fallout company made more sense to me, and the colloquial name is more gangster)
12.7mm SMG > H&K MP50 (This in reference to its caliber, and in reference to the fact that it's supposed to be a stand in for the P90, which was an H&K in Fallout 2. Its form language also works well enough with the other H&K determined weapons I found.)
Service rifle > AR-13 Service Rifle (This, owed to the fact that in his streams JE Sawyer said it was designed to be a mashup of the AR10 and AR15. Since it's neither, I met it in the middle)
10mm SMG > H&K MP10 (referencing the caliber, also me noticing within the last decade that it's got the trademark H&K fire selector markings).
i did some looking around for real life equivalents to the weapons you didn't put the real world names for and i found ones for the trail carbine, grenade launcher and sawed off shotgun, that being the marlin 336, china lake and vg bentley respectively, here's images for the china lake, marlin and vg bentley for comparison
Hey! Really appreciate these suggestions - sorry I took so long to implement this, had a busy year. The VG Bentley is a perfect fit, and has a nice ring to it. It might not be as close as the 30-30 336 visually, but since it's .44 I renamed the Trail Carbine to Marlin 1894 Carbine.
could i suggest m60 SAW as the name for the LMG as it is a combination aesthetic wise of the m60 and m249 SAW, if you're wondering where i know this from here's the source https://jesawyer.tumblr.com/post/624466614763552769/theres-an-unused-formlist-in-new-vegas-referring
Just installed this, definitely a keeper. My only criticism/request is that the weapon mod parts still use the old names (e.g. Anti-Material Rifle Suppressor instead of PGM Hecate Suppressor). An update to those would be great, if possible. Otherwise, love it.
Thanks! So the only reason I didn't do that yet is because some other weapon mods re-use mods from the base game - I know of at least one that uses the 10mm pistol mods in my load order. Since those tend to be rarer though, I'm thinking of making an alternate version for the weapons that are unlikely to have shared generic mods when I get time next.
have you considered making the mod a scriptrunner? just it would reduce the ESP count from 4 to 0 saving space on the users load order, shouldn't be too hard to do from what i know, just a optimization suggestion
Yeah that definitely should be possible with what Sweet showed me in regards to scripting the AK for it to detect ESMs when users have them. It's already running a script actually, so I'll just chuck in the new bits to the main ESP. I'll try to tackle that after I finish my work for the weekend.
It's a Chinese-made C96, which I think would make it closer to a Type 17 pistol. The Type 17 was a Chinese version of the C96 pistol that fired in .45 and had a full-auto option. With that said, the Chinese Pistol in-game fires in 10mm and isn't full-auto, so C96 might work just fine. Though, there are Chinese characters on the side of the the Chinese Pistol if I recall, which was one of the telltale identification markings of a Type 17 as opposed to say, a Red 9 variant of C96.
On a sidenote, I think the Assault Carbine is actually based on the Colt Commando, I've heard that several times. I don't know quite enough about those types of rifles to say that for certain, other than I think that it's based more directly on the Commando than the base M4, which I think was burst fire only. The M4A1 was fully auto, unless I have them mixed up.
FWIW, the real-world name for the Lever-Action Shotgun should actually be "Winchester Model 1901."
Available in both 10 gauge and 12 gauge, the 1887 shotguns were made only for black powder. When it came time to improve them for smokeless powder, Winchester did so only for the 10 gauge model, as they didn't want in-house competition with their 1897 pump-action.
A few others: In-game Real World Silenced .22 Pistol - (Though there's nothing wrong with "Ruger .22 Pistol," you might add "Silenced" in front of it) .357 Magnum - Colt Single Action Army Chinese Pistol - (might as well add "C96" to the name, IMO)
And here's a few additions, for your consideration: IG RW .44 Magnum Revolver - Smith & Wesson Model 29
Hunting Revolver - Magnum Research BFR (I was surprised to find that it actually does come in .45-70)
Brush Gun - Marlin 1895 (The Fallout wiki cites J.E. Sawyer stating about what gun it was based on: "Not one gun specifically, but guns like the Winchester 1886 and Marlin Guide Gun." Given the unmistakable resemblence to the Marlin 1895, I find the notion that the Brush Gun wasn't based on any specific gun rather dubious.)
Thanks for the info. I will be appyling the changes soon.
Side note: Don't know why I didn't change the .357's name to the Colt Single Action Army, I knew that. In addition, I still don't know why this mod's script doesn't work with TTW.
EDIT: Edits have been made. The Chinese pistol is now known as the Mauser C96. But wait, shouldn't it be a HSI Mauser since it's chambered for 9mm?
Is the renaming done with a script, or just normal edits of each weapon's base form? If the later, then it will conflict with practically every other mod that changes anything in the vanilla weapons.
Normal edits. Okay, I could've seen that coming, I'm still a little new when it comes to modding with the GECK. Any advice on how to do it with scripts?
