Seamless smoking. No cumbersome extra menus or items. Simply click a cigarette (or cigar or cigarillo) in your inventory (just like you would with any other chem) to light it up and puff away!

New Vegas Script Extender is required to start your smoking addiction!

Light Up and Smoke Those Cigarettes is also available for Fallout 3.

OVERVIEW

Ever wished you could do more with those Cartons of Cigarettes or Packs of Cigarettes in the Mojave Wasteland? Now you can!

Cartons and packs will now be located in the AID section of your Pip-Boy.

Open up the cartons/packs with a single click and see how many smokes you find (based on your Luck stat).

Loose cigarettes can also be picked up and used.

Look for the pricier smokes, such as cigars and cigarillos, at your favourite vendors and during scavenging. Alternatively, craft them yourself using loose Tobacco.

Smoking is now as easy as using Jet, Psycho, or any other chem in the Fallout world. There are no additional items or menus you have to fiddle with, simply click to light up a smoke and enjoy!

Complete with brand new sound effects: carton/pack opening/unwrapping, sizzling, burning out, and of course, a classic flick of the lighter to start it all.

DETAILS

Not all of the cartons or packs of cigarettes you find are pristine. For variety and balance reasons, the number of cigarettes within packs and the packs within cartons is based on your Luck stat.

The higher your luck, the more likely you'll find 2-3 cigarettes/packs in a pack/carton. Otherwise, with lower luck, you'll typically get 1-2 cigarettes/packs, but still have a chance to get more on a lucky 'roll'.

When you unpack a carton or pack, an empty carton/pack (with a brand new model!) will be added to your inventory.

There is also a chance of finding an extra pack when you unpack a carton, or a "lucky cigarette" when you open a pack. This chance is also determined by your Luck points.

A lucky cigarette will give you +1 to LCK in addition to regular cigarette effects.

Using a cigarette, cigar, or cigarillo from the AID section of your inventory will automatically add and equip a visible lit version of that smoke on your character. You can only smoke one item at a time.

After lighting up a smoke, Tobacco effects will appear in the STATS section of your Pip-Boy.

Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1
Lucky Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1, LCK +1
Cigars: CHR +1, AGL +1, INT +1
Cigarillos: CHR +1, AGL +1, STR +1

These buffs will remain for 120 seconds.

Lit cigarettes/cigarillos/cigars will burn out at 120 seconds.

From the time you begin smoking, a Nicotine Effect will remain in your system for 360 seconds, giving you a brief window of time between the buffs ending and the time you will experience Nicotine Withdrawal effects (if you are addicted).

At any point after your smoking item burns out, you are free to light up any other smoking item.

When your smoke has burned out, a subtle burn-out sound effect will play and a message will appear to notify you that you are finished smoking.

An appropriate smoke butt will be added to your inventory.

There is a chance of addiction when smoking. This addiction modifies the already existing "Coyote Tobacco Addiction" and changes it to "Nicotine Addiction".

To account for the abundance of smoking items you can obtain throughout the game, I've increased the penalties for Nicotine Addiction for gameplay balance.

Nicotine Addiction: AGL -1, CHR -1, END -1, PER -1

Removing this addiction is already covered by the vanilla addiction removal scripts. So, to alleviate your Nicotine Addiction, simply visit a doctor, use Fixer for a temporary fix, or perhaps just suckle at that smokey teat again.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Shorter Chem Wear-Off Effects is highly recommended if you're a heavy smoker due to my mod...

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Why do my cigarettes still show up in the miscellaneous section of my Pip-Boy? I can't use the cigarettes?

Typically, if you ever find cigarettes/packs/cartons in the Miscellaneous section of your inventory, it means another mod is overriding this one. My first recommendation to anyone who has issues is to keep this mod at the bottom of your load order.

My cigarettes/cigars/cigarillos are not positioned correctly in my character's mouth?

The cigarette/cigar/cigarillo can appear misaligned on certain player models. There's unfortunately no way to account for all character models when concerning smoking item positioning as it is linked to a bone on the character model, and depending on how you modified your characters face, it can appear misaligned.

For cigars, due to their size, they will pretty much never look 'right' when they're placed in your mouth. This is an unavoidable issue.

However, as for cigarettes and cigarillos, modifying their position is an easy fix that you can do yourself. View the instructions below:

1. Open the 'cigarette.nif' (or 'cigarillo.nif' if you want to modify the cigarillo) file in the 'Data/meshes/smoking_edisleado' folder with NifSkope.

2. Change the X translation number to move the model up and down. Make sure to save over the original file.

View the screenshot below:

3. Close NifSkope.

4. Open up the game and confirm that the cigarette appears in the right position on your character model. Experiment to make it fit your character model.
