Kinda sorta... 12.7mm is the same as .50 inches and .50 inches - .50 AE and .50 BMG (no such thing as a .50 MG round in real life, it is a misnomer when dealing with ammunition) are similar in the same way, for example, that an Escort and Mustang are cars made by Ford. In reality, the .50 BMG measures in at 12.7x99mm and the .50 AE round measures in at 12.7x33mm. The only round in reality referred to as simply 12.7 is the 12.7x108 (Soviet/Russian) machine gun round. Do NOT get me started on how a .308 sporting round should not be used in a military sniper rifle.
In the end, though, it is entirely up to the author how they want it to work out. I'm sure many told Picasso that cubes might not be a good idea or told money that painting fuzzy pictures wasn't an accurate depiction of life. The ammo used is really just a detail. Where I would suggest caution is game balance - putting a 6 lb AMR equivalent with 50 rounds of endgame tier ammo (even if just sold for caps) might not be a good fit for Goodsprings, and the only reason I even mention that is that the author has not set any tags - unbalanced or cheat would be appropriate here and then all is well in my book, though it's really not my place to judge.
I see this as a fair first mod attempt with room to learn and grow with time. A retexture or new model could be in the future and this would provide the motivation to learn how to do that. The same with, perhaps, wanting to put it in its own container which would encourage learning more GECK to do it
Congratulations on your first mod, rennistora, you already know there's a whole community here ready to help you improve your modding skills over time. I can't wait to see what you come out with next!
Edit: Having said that, you might want to upload the actual file.
mk but consider: this is a game where you get fisted by a robot while in a room surrounded by dead rats, and upon leaving you get attacked by a gang of three old ladies with rolling pins
The real question is how this person made this mod, I can't find any info on how to do anything like this. It can't be that hard if it was their first mod
I am using this for a while, though I made a few modifications, first I eliminated the spread(more of a novelty thing, since this is suposed to be a Gunslinger's gun, it shouldn't be affected by something so random), then I modified the bullet that comes out the gun(you can see it in VATS more often), and finally slightly increased the view zoom from 4.5x to 5x.
Mike, Brigand is right.. a .50 BMG is 12.7x99, while .50 AE is 12.7x33.A high energy load in a .50 AE generates 1,600 ft/lbs of energy, while a high energy load in a .50 BMG generates an amazing 14,895 ft/lbs of energy. BIG DIFFERENCE.
Basically, a .50 BMG is almost 4 inches long and has a necked casing. To put it in a revolver would require a cylinder the size of a coffee can! Not to mention the recoil would probably break your wrist...
.50 AE is only about 1.5 inches long and has a straight casing. You could put 5 rounds in a normal (if a bit large) sized revolver cylinder. .50 AE in a revolver would kick pretty hard (more so than in a Desert Eagle, since the Eagle's recoil is somewhat softened by the action) but it probably wouldn't break you wrist.
That said, rennistora should just do a bit more research on cartridge size... other than the ammo, the mod seems fine for a first try. Although you might want to upload it.
Not trying to be a jerk here, but 12.7 is the same thing as .50 AE and .50 MG. You are correct in that .50 AE and .50 MG are two different rounds, but they are both 12.7. If anything, the mod author should, A. Change the cartridge to no bigger than .357. B. Create a new gun. This would be a much better idea.
