After much ado about nothing, then even more ado about everything, I'd like to address the future of Strangers Abroad.

Short answer - it's dead. New Vegas effectively never had Sky's shenanigans inflicted upon it. But we shall return...

    ...eventually.

(Jesus, linking the vid was hard. Ugh.)

Alright. I think this is it.

I understand that this is coming out of nowhere, but I've been taking some time to get my head around the Mod and, try as I might, I can't find a scenario where this mod doesn't obliterate another year or two of my life. And I just can't give up that much time to a project which, although I've enjoyed it a great deal, I've written into a corner. My initial idea, to create a companion with a life of his own, his own motives and objectives beyond the player, kind of got swallowed up in this desire to create some big bloody masterpiece - fairly ambitious, being my first ever mod and everything.

So it brings me some pain, but a fair amount of relief, to say that I'm shutting Strangers Abroad down for good. This was a long, painful, yet perversely satisfying crash-course into mod-making and while I've enjoyed it hugely (and been pleased that so many of y'all liked it to boot), I'm having to face facts that I simply can't finish this and deal with my real-life commitments too. Such is the way of the world. I said this before when I junked the old build of Chapter 3, and while I did push on to complete a different version of it, many of the same problems still applied. I'd exceeded my reach hugely - constantly subjected myself to re-writes (I'll touch on that later) and squandered vast amounts of time obsessively trying to go a single experimental part of a script to work, only for it to go all pear-shaped in the bugtesting phase.

Am I quitting for good? No. But I think that me and New Vegas have to part ways before someone dies. Should Fallout 4 be moddable, and I can only imagine it will be, I'll get right back into the swing of things, but for now? It's adios. Sky will be back, but retconned into the next phase of the timeline. Consider this mod a quick splash around in the shallows of character creation before the main plunge.

Thanks to all of you who supported this, and to those who put in time and effort to voice characters, produce items or send me feedback and suggestions. You made this happen, and you made it worthwhile to make it carry on for as long as it did.

    Big love,

    S

I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the mod (and it was your first one - wow! ) and I appreciate all your time and effort with it. I would rank your work with some of the best quest/adventure mods out there (for any curious readers: anything by Someguy2000 (e.g. New Vegas Bounties but get them ALL) or by Puce Moose, or llamaRCA's Willow companion). Your mod had some very creative, interesting, and first-rate storytelling.

Being a mod author -as a true labor of love- is a largely thankless and frustrating task, so no apologies (implied or otherwise) are needed. Good show (as they say) and I hope you'll be back modding for the long delayed but probably inevitable Fallout 4.

It's understandable, as our friend above said, modding is a labor of love. I enjoyed what was put out a good bit more than most mods out there, you're surely made something I dare say is original. The work here was always quality over quantity, but in a way that could still take up a solid few ours experiencing, and getting through, though it was never a chore. I'm sorry you're in a situation like this, being a writer I too know the aggravation that comes from finding oneself written into a corner. I'm sad to see this mod go, but I'm glad I got a chance to meet sky.The predicament you're in is justifiable, as we all have things outside of the realm of Fallout New Vegas. Stay fresh mate, I hope to see that Cockney bastard yet again as he drags me through even more s#*! and tells me of "Ingland". We just don't have enough violent English lads here in the Mojave.

Sorry to disrupt the flow of heartfelt goodbyes and 'I understand''s, but did you/will you at least get the VA work finished for Chapter 3 and perhaps fix a few bugs, should they show up?

Also, so the flow isn't COMPLETELY disrupted, I am terribly sad to see you go, as this has been one of my absolute, hands-down favourite quest mods, and one of my favourite all-time mods.
While I'm somewhat mortified that it'll never be truly finished, for New Vegas at least, I'm wonderfully happy to hear Sky'll be showing his mug in Boston, or, y'know, wherever they decide to plonk the protagonist player down in Fallout 4.
On the subject of Fallout 4 and slightly off-topic, I wonder if there'll be a project to merge F:NV with Fo4, and if we'll be able to have a three-way between Fo3, F:NV and Fo4...

Well Scar, i just want to say i loved this mod, even when i suffered the inevitable glitches (EX: Insta Crash right after the "mind battle" (That was fucking sadistic from my PC to do that.) The voice acting, missions, lore, and just about everything was perfect. A shame you couldn't find those 2 missing voice actors for Travis and that NCR sargeant, but hey, that's life.

Besides, who doesn't love post-apocaliptic Britain?

Alright, I have a big bug. Well at least I consider it to be. I'm up to the point where it says "Meet Travis at the Bunker, no companions." I've told my companions to wait somewhere since Niner will just disappear if I tell him to go away.

Problem is, they're not at the bunker and never will be at the bunker. All three Sky, Travis, and Riley are still outside the El Rey Motel standing around. If I try to talk to them they say "not now" so PLEASE HELP ME! I really want to finish this as it is undoubtedly one of my favorite quest mods.

Can anyone give me Buckwheat's ID? I finished the part where you meet the people to discuss Kato's fate, and after I finished, it says that Buckwheat wants kato's head? and when i walk outside of Wolfhorn Ranch, Buckwheat is nowhere to be found. I think he died because there is a quest marker that leads to nowhere outside of the ranch, so the quest is broken for me.

Oh Wow!! I've finally gotten around to FNV and was particularly looking for add-on quests.. This mod looks most intriguing in spite of the coding problems ( which can indeed always be a nightmare. Your remarks Scar, are perfectly understandable in the circumstances. Games like this can indeed consume all of one's time, especially when developing. I definitely noticed all of the Issues reported during a FNVEdit cleaning pass I do for all mods as a matter of habit after the "Skyrim Affair," so to speak. the glowing reports from others encourage me to go ahead and give this mod a shot.

As for errors and such.. If anyone knows, What should I do about this particular error from FNVEdit after doing an ITM and UDR clean?>

exception message : Record SA03TheBurgNPCDialogueSA03NessTopic026 "I'm surprised you're not having trouble with the Legion more, being so close to their borders." [DIAL:00000000] must have a FormID.

Should I save anyway or is there an manual edit that could be applied to bypass the warnings? I'm planing on starting the round with this included in the game.

TYVM, and I will look forward to Fo4 and your continued efforts..

      Namaste...

      Aurih.

Found this mod to be both frustrating and rewarding. Excellent job. Got as far as inside Travis' shack. Sky asks T. "What's up?" then it just stopped. I'm sorry you've decided to stop development but I understand. Thanks for an outstanding adventure.

Perhaps please release a version that ends at chapter two? Without the bugs and the crashes, and apparently... Mind battles? Please forgive me. I've yet to complete your mod. However, from what I've heard (more like read), it appears chapter 3 is the buggiest of them all. Now I'm so far impressed with your mod (I've just found Sky. Whoop-dee-F***king doo), and I do say, very good voice acting. Ingland ftw. Yeah. That's all I know. The comments are riddled with spoilers.

Edit: Install only 1-2 if you want more stable version. Even in the end of 2 I got some bugs ( likely showing dev's fatigue in creating this mod). Anyway good mod, nice little story.
    Don't install 1-3, just 1-2. Cheers.

So... since chapter 3 is unfinished, for people who just want to do the completed parts (1&2), do we lose anything on those quests if we use the 2013 Ch 1-2 file and not the 2014 Ch 1-3 version?

I know the mod is dead, but can someone offer some help? In chapter 3, Mad about the boy quest, I go and find darko west, his house explodes, him and Travis chat a bit, then Darko goes over to his house and nothing happens. No quest update and no dialogue from Travis or Sky for me. What is supposed to happen even?

Now, I have played quite a lot of Fallout. Granted, I've still yet to play Fallout 1, 2, Tactics... But, I consider myself an experienced Fallout fan. I've played a good lot of mods, and a lot of good mods too. Rockwell Pursuit was awesome, for example. But overall, I think Strangers Abroad takes the cake for number one mod on my list. My reasoning for this is that it 'feels' like Fallout. It fits and blends so perfectly with the default game itself that if I hadn't added it in myself, I'd have thought it was a DLC. A very buggy DLC, but I digress.

I recommend this mod to anyone capable of downloading and installing it. Though Chapter 3 might feel like you're on a train ride into a pit of glitches and sadness, fear not! There is a solution to any, and all bugs that you might come across fair traveler! Save. And once you've saved, save again. Going into a new area? Better save. About to talk to someone related to the quest line? Better save. I learned the hard way that not saving gets your brain not good for thinking well. And then you get angry and break daddy's computer. Then daddy breaks ou- okay, getting a bit off topic here.

Despite the bugs, this mod still had me so riveted the entire play through of it that I went back through an hour of gameplay just to replay one part over again in order to fix a glitch that I'd had with an important quest NPC. And I enjoyed replaying that hour, savored that hour, then put the left overs in the fridge like Christmas dinner.

The journey might be over for now according to our mod-god Scar. But, I'll say this anyways, directed towards said mod-god of course. You ever think of rebooting this project? I'm right here with you man. I'll do hoops, flips, and twirl in a ballerina tutu if it helps with the progress of this mod. That being said, I'll voice act. And really nothing else, 'cause I'm a talent-less schmuck. But its the thought that counts. But that being said, I'm absolutely sure that you have a right big ton of other people that would be more than willing to help if you did so deign us worthy of your epic tale of a British man in good ol' fucked up 'Merica. I might have loved Sky too much, as you can tell. I'd have a poster of him pinned in my room if I could.

But yeah, I'll sum it up. Sweet mod, lore friendly, good character, would help if wasn't dead. Nice kicks kid. GG, GL & HF.

    Sincerely
    ~Anonymously Smitten With This Mod

I don't want to sort of be a dick or anything, but now that Fallout 4 is dead, and its modding scene was outright aborted, is our lovable, favourite britbong gone for good? Cuz if so, I'll miss that bastard. In fact, I'll make a little paper boat, put it on water, throughfully set it on fire and pretend Sky was in there and call it a Viking funeral. Or something. Anyways, a shame this mod died. It was one of the best. Not even Someguy could top this with his Sodomy and Roman literature/Outlaw references. And we all know those are damn good.

Although this quest mod is unfinished, I loved it. It's one hell of a ride. Well worth an endorsement. Great dialogue, great writing, great voice acting and plenty of combat to boot. I enjoyed the hell out of Sky as a character and I'm happy to see that you will be continuing with your ideas into Fallout 4.

I need some help with chapter 3. I'm at the bit were Travis is going to tell me the blackmail plan. Sky goes through his explanation like normal, and then when he says something like 'travis will explain that part' the conversation just ends. I'm stuck in place staring at Travis and Sky, neither one of them saying or doing anything, no matter how long I let it run for.

Chapter 3 won't start. I finished Chapter 2, but I'm unable to start Chapter 3. Sky just wanders around doing nothing, even after weeks. Any fix for this? Or is there something specific I need to do to start it?

Have you fully explored the base under Reuben Retail? Before chapter 3 was properly released there was a teaser section you could get to through a terminal in the area unlocked during chapter 2. While I doubt that terminal is still there, there might be a trigger for the next chapter in that area (I have yet to actually get there myself, so I could be wrong).
