Is there a way to change their dialog? in geck, I managed to change GREETING, NCCSJoin, NCCSNevermind, to custom dialog. but I cannot find the dialog they use when you open a conversation with them and they say something random like "that gecko steak isn't sitting well with me" I want to change those random openers to different things,

Also thank you so much for your tutorials on your mod, this was my first time using geck and you made it understandable like I'm starting to get it

Depends heavily on what exactly you're trying to edit. All the NCCS dialogue is contained inside the master or companion plugin; but the bit they say when you first enter dialogue is usually from the GREETING topic; which is base-game and comes from their voice type. I added a few generic GREETING lines for NCCS so that companions without vanilla or otherwise properly configured voice types would still be able to enter dialogue properly.

That said, without knowing which NPC(s) you're specifically trying to edit dialogue for, I can't point you in the direction any more precisely.

Also, one caution: as I said, GREETING is usually base-game, so be careful about editing it. Adding new lines is fine and can be done without overwriting anything; but editing the base game's greetings can cause issues with other mods and NPCs, so I don't recommend it.

I was wondering which of my mods Artemis came from and now I know. I met her on my first playthrough and brought her along and made her my heavy hitter giving her miniguns, flamethrowers, grenade rifles etc I just started my second playthrough and Artemis is once again by my side. Love her name too and she's a permanent member of my group. Also I really need to read mod Descriptions more too as I just discovered the containers feature so not only is she a high damage dealer but she can carry everything! That's perfect! I haven't made any companions yet but if I do a third playthrough I might have to (but will still bring Artemis)!

    >By default, companions are essential
Is it possible to disable this? make them non-essential?

Don't tick the essential box in the NPC edit window; or in the case of a downloaded companion, edit in the GECK and untick the box. Edits can also be made via FNVEdit.

Be aware however, NV has regular problems with NPCs attempting to suicide in the most moronic of ways; as well as a long-standing tradition of clipping through terrain, getting smacked by random physics objects, and even sometimes disappearing only to be found high into the sky and attempting reentry without a parachute.

They just have to be the centre of attention, don't they?

Apparently. That one persisted into the early days of Skyrim, but I think did eventually get fixed in a patch.

We won't even talk about the time I made the mistake of giving one a rocket launcher.

Yeah, companions in FO3 and F: NV should never have grenades, rocket launchers or a Fat Man...

I to this day am amazed that the AI has no concept of splash damage. Not even in self preservation.

That is an annoying game engine bug that can usually be corrected by either making the .esp file a .esm file, or "flagging" the .esp file as a .esm.  Going the "flagging" route would probably be the easiest to do, as it can be done using FNVEdit (XEdit).  I can fill you in on how to do it, if you wish.

This is one of those where it's immensely helpful if you're specific as to what you're trying to do.

African American is a race option for NPCs in this game, so just selecting that will do it.

If it's the face/body texture mismatch bug where you get a body one color and a face another; then like Druuler said you've got to set your companion's plugin to be a master to fix it. Instructions should be in the creation guide.

Depends largely on whether you plan to make a companion yourself; but strictly speaking: no.

Hey, just wondering is there a way to disable the text dialogue so my follower is mute? I'm gonna have my friend voice act him in stream. (I haven't downloaded this mod yet so apologies if the answer is obvious)

Not readily. Most of the dialogue actually does stuff behind the scene -- script or quest settings, inventory changes, and so on. Disabling the dialogue completely would also preclude the effects from happening. You could delete the NPC's text responses, I suppose; but it'd get difficult to keep track of what you were getting as responses. Beyond that, all I could think of is setting up a hotkey to disable the HUD altogether (TM in the console, I believe it is) to quickly toggle the whole mess off the screen when you want him to talk. The game's not really made for sound-only conversations. Assuming I'm remembering correctly, of course; which I might not be.

Would it be possible to just delete the non necessary text, like comments they make while idling around? I'm fine with the interaction dialogue, I just dont want any unexpected dialogue because Im going to have a friend voice the character.

UPDATE: Found the silent companion optional file. That should work hopefully.

I am really sorry for not 'seeing' your work before now. Would have saved me a lot of trouble and making me freer in createing my own NPCs and setups.
I am also sad for your data loss. It sucks. I wish you the best.

      No.

I don't own an Xbox of any generation; have never owned one, and would have no idea whatsoever how to mod on it. Not even going to try to provide support. PC only.

Did I do something wrong or? because they dont have voicelines, or arent they supposed to have them?

No, they do not have voice files. Sadly, R&D squandered the FY2012 budget on end of the world supplies (which didn't happen yet again), so the voice actor budget wound up being slashed; resulting in text dialogue only. We here at NosCo offer our sincerest apologies.
