Not Lore.... But, some chem names and it's effect made by Bethesda, isn't lore too. So...why not, if somebody like this mode. Classic lore - it's like in Fallout 1&2.
I honestly hate the politically-correct fantasy names of the medications one encounters in FO. Is this an adult game or are we just pretending? So...
A good idea, but you should really read up on the drugs - some equivalents you suggest are way out of reality. Lemme take a moment, I will mention those that struck me as wrong... and some that you really got the bullseye on : )
Med-X = Morphine - good enough, could have been Heroine, given that the development stopped in mid-50s Rad-X = Indraline - wow, new stuff. Doubt it was invented back then - can't remember what I personally had in my nuclear war aid kit (yes, I had one), maybe you should look into older versions of this. Radaway = Neumune - good name. Wonder where you dug it all up : ) Rebound = Epinephrine - Adrenaline is more understandable (and that's what is basically is) Buffout = Anabolic Steroids - yeah, I can live with this Jet = Methamphetamine - almost hit the bullseye with the name Dixon's Jet = Dixon's Meth - right Steady = Benzo - good enough, but I'd still call this Valium : ) Hydra = PCP (Phencyclidine) - Hydra has nothing to do with the PCP - do rethink the name. Hydra is an immune-regeneration-boosting drug, think of an appropriate name : ) Mother Darkness = GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) - I don't know. Maybe Mother Darkness is a good name for an abstract poison Slasher = Phenobarbital - wrong name again - PBB is for releaving of seizures, rather than for boosting one up. By the way, I don't see any Psycho (which is an ingredient for this one) in the list. Maybe start from there? Cateye = Atrophine - I can live with that, except... atropine has other great side effects, like boosting heart rate to almost unbearable speed, and some other effects as well. Might want to rethink a name. Maybe Tropicamide? Turbo = Now, maybe this should have been PCP? Rocket = Crack - well, it isn't exactly than. Maybe Purer Meth or something? Fixer = Methadone - can't say anything, it's the closest we have to the in-game thing. IRL, there are Methadone addicts, but guess we can skip on this particular detail.
Try not to double post, I dont mind an essay on the same post. Why did ppl -rep the posts? theyre good ideas I don think you need to copy the preexisting ones in though.
About the Mentats: Well why bother with a retex, it's just a brand name, as Valium is simply a name for diazepam. Mentats could stand for any chemical.
Made some additions, thanks for the suggestions azure and yes drugs are bad but this is a game so we can get high on jet and kill everything with a chainsaw for the LoLz.
EDIT: Im not sure about the mentats, they will still say mentats on the box. Retex?

Rad-X = NF-κB
Radaway = Potassium Iodide
Rebound = Methylphenidate
Buffout = Hydrocodone
Jet = Alkyl Nitrite
Dixon's Jet = Dixon's Nitrite
Steady = Benzodiazepines
Hydra = Phencyclidine
Mother Darkness = Botulinum
Slasher = lysergide
Cateye = Tropicamide
Turbo = Amphetamine
Rocket = Nitrite Concentrate
Fixer = Placebo
This is the correct way to do it.

Dixon's Jet = Dixon's Meth - right

Jet = Methamphetamine / Meth
Dixon's Jet = Dixon's Meth
Steady = Benzodiazepine / Benzo / BDZ
Hydra = Phencyclidine

Cateye = Atropine
Turbo = Lisdexamfetamine
Rocket = Amphetamine
Fixer = Methadone
Mentats = Lysergide
Party Time Mentats = Cocaine
