    Hell no...

The Service Rifle does not have to be the greatest weapon ever. It is a standard rifle used by the NCR. Of course modding it is a good idea, so that the Troopers can be useful... But don't give them huge weapons of mass destruction. If it can kill a Legion Prime in 2-3 shots, it is perfect. If it can kill a Centurion in one shot to the leg, then they are not Troopers anymore.

Why is the legion's armor so strong? It's fucking sports equipment for gods sake. It makes perfect sense to be able to massacre them.

Does this work with replacer style mods? Theres one that I use which replaces the service rifle with an m16a2, name and all. (The one I have currently I got from a quest at the mojave outpost, about killing giant ants.)

I think the accuracy of the service rifle should stay the same in the vanilla version but instead of a 33 damage with 100 guns skill what about a 28 damage so it takes more than two shots to kill a legionarry for example

Alright, I just copied the esp.-file into my data folder and tried to launch the game: it broke and I cannot load it anymore, even after removing the esp.-file. Any guess? I have no other mod installed that alters guns, so what is the problem. I'm weary of having to reinstall the game time after time just because some mods are rubbish.

    THANKS, BRO!!!

    @ Zombie overlord
I did not consider the Assault Carbine for change because the high rate of fire balance the low dmg. The service rifle did not even with the Upgraded Springs mod.

    @ Jas0ny
Seeing how both mods edit the base Service Rifle I'm not surprised. However both mods do the same thing but in different ways. I will not be making them compatible because it would make it overpowered. Sorry.

    @ RoadKill94
The max dmg (100 Gun and fully repaired) for the varmint rifle is 18.

@your evil twin ..I see your point. about the 5mm ammo. but unfortunately Bethesda owns all the rights now so they decide whats cannon.. not that it matters because Fallout 1 and 2 have some contradictory cannon between them as well, as do even the original creators have things they don't agree on (the origin of the Ghouls for example)

as for the rest. You know the XM214 Microgun was not really "man portable" at least not like in this game.. it was meant to be carried by 2 men and tripod mounted for firing because the recoil is still to much to make it viable to be fired anyway else..you would still have to carry a battery or small generator to make it work ...to make it viable the RPM would have to be cut down to less than 1500 rpm which makes the need for rotating barrels disappear and without those it's no longer a minigun .. which is why it was a failed project because the same thing can be accomplished with the larger caliber m134 or the standard LMG or GPMG .. but being as physics don't apply in the fallout universe (people flying in the air from a small caliber bullet which defies the very basics of newtons laws and ballistics) and they have power armor I guess it works

It really becomes obvious how rubbish the Laser Rifle is as the Service Rifle is far superior and people are complaining about the Service Rifle!

Guys talking about the Assault Carbine and the ammo-type... in Fallout 1 the Assault Rifle and the minigun both used 5mm ammo. There wasn't any 5.56mm ammo, the closest thing to 5.56mm was .223 that was used by hunting rifles and "That Gun", the .223 pistol. I think the idea was that by the time the war happened in 2077 there was some new futuristic 5mm bullet that was slightly smaller but still effective somehow. (Civillians still used .223, which is low-powered 5.56mm.)

Then Bethesda screwed up the canon by having the Fallout 3 assault rifles all using 5.56mm instead of 5mm and making the 5mm a minigun-specific ammo type. I think that the Assault Carbine using 5mm ammo is Obsidian's nod towards the classic Fallout games. The Assault Carbine is more modern-looking than the Service Rifle so it makes sense it usees the more modern fictional 5mm rounds.

As for 7.62mm miniguns... bear in mind that in real life General Electric did a prototype man-portable minigun, the XM214 Microgun, or GE Six-Pak. It uses 5.56mm ammo. It is hard to imagine a traditional minigun using 7.62mm ever being man portable - someone might be strong enough to carry it (power armour) but the recoil would be ridiculous.

wait, i thought the varmint rifle had 14 dmg or something, not 18. (?)
