downloaded and works perfectly.....although did anyone notice that in the Vault Wiki that it says that the companions are supposedly essential except in hardcore? Don't know if it's true or not but then again any idiot can alter the site so either way I'm using this mod.

Do you use any mods that alter those two companions in any way? I've got Veronica and Cass set to Essential in my copy.

It actually does effect ED-E, even if you choose to upgrade his weapons or armor.
It would be nice if you listed every companion this affects.
