// Eyelashes for Fallout 3
// by throttlekitty
// v 1.0 , 10.20.10
// (lazymode engage! readme adapted from F3 version.)

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34790

This mod adds working eyelashes to the human races in Fallout New Vegas. It does so by adding eyelashes to the base races. This package also incorporates two other mods: Head Fixes and Merged Mouths. Head Fixes replaces the files for all six human heads, I needed to make corrections to those for this mod to look its best. Merged Mouths combines the four models that make up the mouth into a single one, freeing up space for the eyelashes to work, but does not replace files.

This mod will conflict with other race-altering mods, such as mods that add hairstyles or beauty packs. I fully support having this mod integrated into larger beauty packs, and grant permission in advance. I only ask that the credit be given, check the end of this readme.

// Installation and Uninstallation:
//

From this package, extract the Meshes and Textures folders and tkEyelashesFNV.esp to:
[steam path]\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\Data\

In the New Vegas Launcher > Data Files, check tkEyelashesFNV.esp, and you're set.

To remove this mod, uncheck the .esp in the launcher, and remove these files:

// Version History:

1.0 - Initial Release.

// Known Issues:
//

The lashes and teeth may create transparency errors when viewed against hair, behind glasses visors, or sometimes behind special environment effects. There is no fix for this.

// Customization:
//

By default, all races/ages use the same texture for the lashes, this can easily be changed in the GECK if you would like to. There is an 'Eyelash Extras' folder, which contains lashes that will change color with the actors' hair color. I feel this should be a per-character option, not for all members of a race. As such, you would need to do a custom setup to use them. Here's a brief rundown on how races are set up with eyelashes:

- Load tkEyelashesFNV.esp in the GECK go to the Character>Race menu, pick the race you wish to edit.
- Now click on the Face Data tab
- The left column is for models, the right column is for textures, with the exception of eye meshes; both columns are for models.

Mouth: Merged Mouth (Contains mouth, tongue, upper and lower teeth)
Teeth(U): Vacuus.nif (The game will re-add default values if the fields are left empty.)
Teeth(L): Vacuus.nif (The empty file holds the spot to keep this from happening.)
Tongue: Eyelash (Pick one appropriate for the age)

In Fallout New Vegas, there are six heads: Child, Middle and Old, with male/female versions of each. Each has their own unique shape and animations, so the correct lashes need to be assigned to the race you're editing. The model field for 'head' can be clicked inside and scrolled to the right to see which head is being used.

_Head_ _Mouth_
HeadChild: MouthHumanChildMerged
HeadChildFemale: MouthHumanChildFemaleMerged

Middle m/f and Old m/f heads all use MouthHumanMerged. All mouths use the same texture, except raiders, who have a dirtier texture. An optional whiter teeth texture is included in the extras folder.

For the Teeth slots, pick Meshes\Characters\Head\Vacuus.nif and Textures\Shared\EmptyTrans.dds.

Eyelash models all follow the same naming scheme as the heads, e.g. HeadOldFemale / LashesHeadOldFemale.

// Colorable Lashes:
//

The Eyelash Extras folder in this package contains altered .nifs and textures that utilize the hair shader, allowing them to change color alongside a characters' hair and/or eyebrows. For space reasons, I didn't duplicate the .egm and .tri files for this folder, just know that the game needs these, and they need to all have the same naming scheme, just re-use the ones from the non-colorable set. As an example:
LashesHeadHumanColorable.egm
LashesHeadHumanColorable.nif
LashesHeadHumanColorable.tri

However, using the Race::Tongue slot doesn't allow for the hair shader, they need to be set up as a Head Part, making it a wholly different mod. The Race now *shouldn't* have eyelashes, since you'd have a duplicate, and drawing errors. Race>Head Parts allows you to set up a new entry, and pick the model for it. These can be dragged to any NPC's Head Parts tab to allow them to use it. For the player, head parts can be added to one of the 'Presets', which are prefixed in the NPC list with CGPreset* and have the 'Is CharGen Face Preset' flag checked. When creating a character, you are always at least starting from the first preset, and its' traits are passed to your character, hence eyelashes. -However, I do not currently know of a way to add head parts to an existing character. Adding head parts to all presets did not pass the lashes to an existing character without using the console command 'ShowRaceMenu'. (and resetting the face in the process.)

// Head Mods:
//

The base models for the heads inside the .nifs can be altered somewhat to assist in making characters look a bit more unique. As a general rule, eye shape should be modded minimally, as this can cause problems when it comes time for an actor to blink or squint. Any wild change of eye location should be handled in FaceGen, but smaller edits are fine inside the .nif. Any customized head .nif that needs them can be fitted with matching eyelashes by editing in a similar fashion. If you plan on fitting the lashes yourself, be sure the vertices that fall against the face sit inside the head somewhat, check some of my models as an example. I will also maintain a list and extra package of custom eyelashes as the need arises.

I also reccommend using the models from the Head Fixes as a base for modding for a better match with the eyelashes.

If anyone is interested in learning more about working with .egm and .tri files, I have a guide and tools located here:

Models and FaceGen work by throttlekitty, based on jclyde6108's original model.
Special thanks to Scanti and NifTools, who wrote the tools I use.

As mentioned at the top of this readme, I fully support having this mod integrated into larger beauty packs, additions to custom races and so on. You have my permission to include these assets, so long as credits are maintained.
