As I recall, the 14mm pistol is based upon .22 target pistol designs. Various Hammerli models bear a notable resemblance. The 14mm is truer to the original concept and inspiration, but man that would be a nose-heavy gun with such a big magazine, heavy barrel, and heavy rounds forward of the trigger guard.
The 12.7mm makes both more and less sense, with the heavy ammo stored closer to the hand, but also employs some real weird Capitalist Future Magic to get that ammo out of the magazine and into the gun.
They're the exact same pistol. Except the guy from Classic Weapons just had to make a new model that doesn't even look that much like the classics because what Obsidian did wasn't good enough, I guess.
the original classic fallout weapons mod was made WAY before new vegas. it was a fallout 3 mod from 2009 originally. so ironically the 14mm model is older.
now that people patched the mod for new vegas there's two of the same gun lol
@themegaswapmonster Fair enough. I didn't know it was from Fallout 3. What I don't understand is why people still use an old, ugly looking pistol made for Fallout 3, when Obsidian made the exact same gun for this game. Same with the Plasma caster.
The 14mm is by far a more memorable design, with the mag in front of the trigger giving it a distinctive shape. I'm also fond of the boxier form-factor.
I was always bothered by the 12.7mm's mag going in the noticably curved and angled grip. Regardless of which is more realistic, It distracts me a lot more with wondering how the heck it works on a mechanical level than the 14mm, even as someone who doesn't generally care about that sort of thing.
12.7mm. Its grip is usable and the magazine is large enough to contain the ammo. Top one's grip is unreasonably large, considering the mid-frame magazine; there's no reason for the grip to be larger if it isn't meant to fit a magazine.
