Fallout New Vegas

AGSU Support for Weapon Mods Expanded (WMX)

Background

Fallout New Vegas provides a means of adding attachments to certain weapons. Some weapons do not allow attachments, and others may allow one or more, up to a maximum of three. These attachments (generally known as Weapon Mods) enhance a weapon's characteristics in various ways, including: damage bonuses, accuracy improvements, and extending ammunition capacity.

Weapon Mods Expanded (WMX) by Antistar updates all of the game's "vanilla" weapons to accept a full set of three weapon mods, and also introduces a collection of new mods as well.

What WMX Does For AGSU

Since AG Supplementary Uniques already provides a complete set of three mods for each of its weapons, the value of a WMX "compatibility patch" may not be readily apparent.

Where the value lies is in WMX's collection of new mods. They enable AGSU to redefine the set of mods for its own weapons so that each individual set of three is more consistent with the particular type of weapon. And by using WMX mods (which are fully integrated into the game as loot drops and vendor goods) instead of simply creating additional AGSU-specific mods, those same weapon mods can be subsequently reused on non-AGSU weapons as well.

For example, the 952 Auto Carbine is a 9mm-oriented rifle that currently uses a 10mm Silencer because a 9mm Silencer does not exist in the regular game. However, WMX provides a 9mm Silencer, so the 952 can be redefined to use that silencer instead. Similarly, the ROAM 510 can now have weapon mods that are more appropriate for an Anti-Material Rifle, instead of making do with mods that were actually for a 25mm Grenade Launcher.

Optional Support

Both EVE and IMPACT are also supported in combination with WMX. When installed, there will be just a single patch that provides all of the necessary support. The possible combinations are: WMX only, WMX with EVE, WMX with IMPACT, and WMX with both EVE and IMPACT. The installer will select the specific patch based on what is currently installed.

Limitations and Restrictions

The WMX compatibility patch is limited to game installs which use the following AGSU configurations:

* ALL DLC ("All In One" with GRA). The required files are AG Supplementary Uniques-AllInOne.esp and AG Supplementary Uniques-GRA.esp. The following five (5) DLCs must also be installed and enabled: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, and Gun Runners Arsenal.

* NO GRA ("All In One"). The required file is AG Supplementary Uniques-AllInOne.esp. The following four (4) DLCs must also be installed and enabled: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road.

* NO DLC. The required file is AG Supplementary Uniques.esp. If any of AGSU's individual DLC files are present, they will not receive the benefits of this compatibility patch.

The required WMX file is WeaponModsExpanded.esp.

All three versions of EVE are supported: ALL DLC, NO GRA, and NO DLC. The required file depends on the AGSU configuration that is currently installed.

All three versions of IMPACT are supported: The Basement Dweller, The Gaming Rig, or The Michael Bay. The required IMPACT file is IMPACT.esp.

When installed, the compatibility patch must be positioned after/below all of those other files in the load order sequence.

Before You Install

Before installing this compatibility patch, you should: load your current save game, remove all attachments from all of your AGSU weapons, then create a new saved game that you will use to resume play. This should be done because the updated weapons may not use the same weapon mods that were inserted originally, and leaving them in place might cause problems.

    Hi..
Is there a list anywhere detailing all the changes made in the WMX compatibility patch? I'm a bit confused because i can find no document regarding this. Are the changes that obvious that I'm just being dense?
... Either way, more clarification on what this patch does would be nice.

There is no detailed list of changes. And, sorry, but I do believe that I can clarify things any better than what the article explains already; perhaps re-read the examples provided under "What WMX Does For AGSU".

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand it is pretty clear about what it does, I guess I'd just like to know if there are alot of changes made by this or if it is mostly obvious like the ROAM mods? As in, could I mostly just follow the regular modifications readme without running into confusion unless the listed mod is clearly incongruent with the weapon type i.e. the ROAM? Sorry if I am being unclear or irritating.

Also thank you for your contributions :)

Sorry, but it has been over a year since I last updated this mod, and so no longer remember the extent of the changes for WMX support and how they relate with regard to consistency with the original AGSU documentation.

I suggest installing The Weapon Mod Menu by Pelinor, if you have not already done so. It is worthwhile because it clearly indicates the attachments that a weapon can accept and how many of those you have in inventory. Note that it requires that NVSE also be installed.

Small question, what happens to the weapons that have already mods installed on them? Will they be separated and "refunded" or will they be converted to their new counterparts or will they simply be lost?

Don't feel stupid ... I think what happened is that I added that new section *after* you had already read the article, so it surprised you, making you think you'd overlooked it.

For simplicity/clarity, I simply quoted the new text as my reply. It was not my intention to imply that you had failed to properly read things. So apologies for any embarassment, etc - any fault was undoubtedly all mine.
