New Vegas GECK available on release

  • Comment
The answers to the second half of the Fallout: New Vegas fan interview were released by GStaff on the 15th of June, and just incase you hadn't heard it seems like the New Vegas version of the G.E.C.K (SDK) will be available on launch. Here's the quote:

Will the Fallout: New Vegas Version of the GECK ship with the game, or be downloadable on release?

JS: Yes. In addition to the normal GECK functionality F3 modders have come to expect, the F:NV GECK will allow modification of ammo lists, ammo subtypes, the hardcore "basic needs" rates, and a lot of the other new bits of data we have added. It will also contain the F:NV dialogue editor, which can be used with or without the standard F3 dialogue editor.

You might have just taken it as a given that there'd be a G.E.C.K., but don't take it for granted, they might not have released one. Obviously with this news I can strongly upgrade my New Vegas purchase status from "hold" to "buy".

There will be a Nexus for New Vegas. I am undecided as to whether I should make a seperate site for New Vegas or create seperate categories for New Vegas and Fallout 3 on Fallout 3 Nexus. While Oblivion and Morrowind share the same site it isn't without it's complications. Decisions!

New Vegas has a GECK all its own. The Wiki site put it up for download very recently. The News on my Steam viewer showed it yesterday as I was preparing to start playing the game.

Just from screens I would guess that most all mods will be portable, since it looks like they used a lot of the resources from FO3 in NV. The question would be whether they have some inexplicable reason to forbid it via EULA or something.

If you like a lady who is not a wall flower in books you need to read clan of the bear cave books its old but still in print

So what's the deal? Is a new site in the mix (like the TESnexus and DAnexus)? Or not?

Two days until release, hopefully we will get some info because I, for one, will be modding from day one!

I will give my vote for a new tab like TES and DA. I can already see the NV at the top right already...drools.

I am with the people who say if the GECK is the same and compatible with both versions to keep it as one site. If we need to have two different version of the GECK to create content then I would say make separate sites.

I have my pre-load ready. As soon as the unlock happens, I will be checking out the modding. Come on Tuesday!!!!

Would the separation be more like Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age:Origins, and Eve? Another section added to the bunch so they are available via their links?
Or are we talking a completely new section to be install in the stand which would serve only the FO3: New Vegas?

The Fallout New Vegas GECK has additional tools for hard-coding, so hopefully this will rule out the need for something like a New Vegas FOSE.

As far as I understand the G.E.C.K for New Vegas wil be exactly the same like the one for FO3. Not even the engine changed. It's still the same game, but another location...that's all.

Seperating sites wouldn't make any sense at all, literally and psychologically. Not only Dark0ne would have to maintain another website, also the community had to jump between the websites and clearly would evolve in a completely different direction, then the community around here on the Nexus. It's easier and much less complicated to implement a tab on every nexus home page or upside on the banner, that connects them all togther, so you can swiftly jump between the Nexus sites.

Seperating sites would also seperate the community and you need to keep them together in order to maintain the greater benefit of us all.

In your heads is where the seperation starts. A seperation that doesn't make any sense at all. Why to begin something new, if the Nexus already is such a precious place to be?

Yeah! It would be real nice if I could continue to work on the mod I am working on. In which I have combination of quests, and many challenging twists and turns. It might fit nicely into the New Vegas lands.

The day is nearing, Dark0ne...What are you doing? Robin. Have you made up your server yet, or are you still mining for opinions?

If the games are completely compatible, I mean 100%, then combine the two. Otherwise separate them. If they are incompatible, imagine the headache figuring out which mods can go to which game.

    My Vote is Seperate site

I would lean for a separate site too, but I imagine once we get our hands on the new vegas geck we'll be able to see if there are many differences. Personally, I know I've been picking thru all the mods lately seeing which ones I'd like to see carry over, which armors/outfits/guns I'll try and edit into my game straight after the first playthrough, but from the previews etc, it doesn't look like there have been huge changes to the engine itself so I would imagine (hope) that transferring mods from F3 to NV won't be too hard either.

And even if this is the case, a new site for NV would at least draw a line in the sand between mods made pre-october 2010 and post.
