And you thought installing user made mods was hard?

So it seems the first official downloadable content for Fallout 3 has been released. Titled Operation Anchorage, the official mod is now available for purchase for PC and XBox 360. Apologies for not getting the word out sooner but I'm in the middle of end of module exams for my final year of university and there wasn't an email from Bethesda PR about it (not that I expected one) ... so yeah, no news!

Reaction to the DLC seems varied and there are some highly entertaining, if not utterly perplexing stories circulating the web about trying to even get the damn thing. So much so one site even provides a "How-to" with pointers on trying to get it.

I don't know how, but Microsoft have some how managed to make a system even more terrible than the original Steam, and Bethesda have jumped on board, even for the PC that doesn't need all this XBox Live knock-off crap.

And don't get me started on the mod being 800 points and points only being available in 500 or 1000 increments...

To those of you who have managed to get the DLC and play through it, how are you doing? Feel free to leave your experiences here. I'll try and keep a level head on the whole matter, but it just seems utterly ridiculous to me.

I agree with a number of people on this forum, i have brought Operation Anchorage And the Pitt Pack but i agree that you basically have to run around get shot and go to a health dispenser. I sort of disappointed me because it did'nt have that Fallout Feel to it, And at the end of that also felt a bit broken when you got all that good stuff at the end of it. The Pitt on the other hand was a little better and i got a little annoyed i felt a little like a hypocrite because i used the stuff you get in the armoury therefore sort of made The Pitt sort of easy if you just equipped the Gauss Rifle. And with a high Energy Weapon skill you'd cruise through it, imo they should've dubbed the Gauss Rifle i little bit more, and all and all disappoint i'm afraid. On another note i must say that Broken Steel was an Achievement imo Bethesda sort of learnt from their mistakes, And being set in the Capital Wasteland where you were formely used to was a plus for me OA and TP Packs were a dissappointment for me, i liked the Broken Steel Pack a lot more because well of the location it took place in. But the Broken Steel because it was set in the Wastes did'nt feel like it was changed nor a expansion pack to begin with. i did have the some different tweaks to it yes but mainly felt like the Orginal F3. If i was a reviewer i would've gave Broken Steel hmm possibly a 7/10 OA and TP sadly i would've given it a 4/10, those scores were a personal marking and if i reviewed it for the general minority of Fallout players maybe a 5 or 6.

Microsoft must be handing out trunks full of cash to these publishers - why else would they even consider hitching their wagon to a rotted brahmin like Live?

I'm sure MS also sweet-talked them with nice (at best) half truths...

Gamers like LIVE. , Look how well it's performed on the Xbox. or this will make buying DLC easier, no money to worry about

While these sound nice they fail to show that IMHO PC gamers have a different mentality about our games.

I'm not saying PCers are better we're just different.

its true...they think it all works the same wya for everyone and all people are tha same..anyone who isnt stuff them who cares...once bought we got thier money to late

its like movies or something....ya know i dont have problem with superman movies (JUST AN EXAMPLE you could place MANY MANY examples here im sure you know lol) but i mean why cant some one make up some one new for a new movie?because of money fearsthey paid for superman before we best go with more of the same just to be safe

live on tha xbox worked (im guessing i dont actually have it but it seems to be what people say) so it will work on tha PC sure!!! we dont need to know the differences in people we will get thier money and it will be to late (also like a movie....you go see it its to late by the time you find out it sucks you already paid and they dont care the news later will say this blah blah place whatever movie here made blah blah big ammount of cash!!! and the world goes on thinking that must make it good not stopping to think about the fact....money made doesnt show how many liked it)

but like i said they dont care

car people have to somewhat care have recalls and stuff....cause they could hurt people physicly (because retard society thinks physical hurt is always worse than mental scarring <img class="> ) but games and movie nope fans will buy and they will rake in tha dough and quality means jack squat and no one will do anything about it

Oops! When u go to download a mod for fallout 3 there is not a file u need to download the files into...that is because there isn't one...I'm going to tell u the truth...I baked my brain trying to find one...and noone on Nexus has the answer...Unless u r looking for the pathetic little answer that is the... jump...run and here is my backpack answer... Ask Nexus to explain that one to u...

Gavelayde, people are more than willing to help on these forums. Most of us have had problems and questions with Fallout that needed answering.

The difference is that most of us are courteous to our fellow gamers and not derogatory in our remarks.

Now, go take the time to read the FAQ's on this forum or alternatively read me's that come with the downloaded mods.

A few tips for free before I go.

    1. As Skotte has pointed out download the mods to a directory or device of your choosing.
    2. Most mods come in the form of a zip/rar file. Do not put these directly into you Data folder. They need to be unzipped or unrared first.
    3. Use FOMM to manage your mods.

    All the best.

I could be wrong but it sounds like you don't know where to save the downloads. Please correct me if I misunderstand.

What I do is save my downloads to an external drive I have using the category structure of the Nexus filesites (FO3Nexus in this case) so I can examine the file-strucure & or fomod-ize the mods.

    Hope that helps

It's not hard? I've tried everything. At least everything mentioned. I haven't gotten one mod from this foolish site to work except one for Oblivion. And yes...I have Vista service pack 1 and 2...and yes...I have fomm...and checked everything...and everything I check doesn'te work. And yes...I went to file planet and downloaded a bunch of crap from there that didn't work either...

If you made a thread in >Fallout 3 Modification Troubleshooting< we might be able to help you directly. there no shame in asking for help.

    Welcome to the nexus
