Trainers, cheats, porting, uploading other people\'s work and the Nexus

Hi folks,

I first of all wanted to say how great it's been to see such an enthusiastic uptake of modding Dark Souls and the use of Dark Souls Nexus. There are now more than 50 mods available for Dark Souls with plenty more coming, which is great, because over 20,000 people will have visited Dark Souls Nexus today looking for mods. Word gets around fast, huh?

I wanted to get a notice out to as many authors and uploaders as possible about a few things regarding our etiquette here on the Nexus, especially in regards to cheats and trainers. As far as I'm concerned cheats that only work in the single-player version of any game are absolutely fine and you are free to upload such cheats to any relevant Nexus site. If you want to cheat, that's your prerogative and I really couldn't care much less. However, if the cheats you upload also work in a multi-player component of the game then this is absolutely not OK, and we do not allow such things to be uploaded to any Nexus site.

Because of the way Dark Souls has been designed the lines between single-player and multi-player have been blurred and, as such, most (if not all) the trainers and cheats available for the game also work in the multi-player version. Ergo these cheats and trainers will not be allowed on Dark Souls Nexus. We do not want to facilitate multi-player cheating in any way, shape or form. If you see any cheats on the Nexus that work in the multi-player aspect of the game please report them immediately and they'll be dealt with.

While I've got your ear I'd also like to pass on a friendly notice (not that there aren't numerous multi-coloured warnings when you go to upload files here mentioning) that you should only be uploading mods and files that either you have created yourself or you have permission to upload from the original author. This includes using or editing other author's work in your work as well. We try to respect the rights of original content creators as much as feasibly possible and will work hard to ensure we get to the bottom of any "stolen content" reports, which often result in bans being handed out. We take it seriously, so please ensure you take it seriously too and get all necessary permissions before you upload your work here.

If you're a mod author creating original content please also consider including a readme with your mods where it clearly states your permission rights (explaining whether your assets are free to use, free to use with credits provided, not free to use without permission, or not free to use at all under any circumstances). This especially helps the staff here when we investigate stolen content reports and avoids any confusion on the matter.

Good ol' Dark0ne laying down the law. Might not stop online cheating but at least they're not welcome here...

All though dealing with cheaters is never an ideal situation, you can still kill them by knocking them off any ledge that results in a "1-hit kill". Trainers can't stop those types of deaths.

So I'm right. There ARE trainers for this game, aren't they? Today I fought someone at the Forest Hunter sanctuary. Alvina summoned me, and then I saw my target, getting hit MANY times by the Forest Hunter NPCs, but not a single chunk of his health dropped. I fought him, backstabbed him 3 - 4 times, to no avail.

At first I didn't know what happen, or was it just a lag I thought. But then it hits me - trainers. The fight goes like 20 minutes until at last I don't know what's wrong with his trickery, he no longer invulnerable to my flurry (and joined by the tree thingies lol) and died miserably.

That was outrageous. Thanks to the Nexus for supporting the fair and honest players!

I totally support this. No cheats and trainer allowed at Nexus. I don't want it as another cheat haven for games.

I didn't know Dark Souls had a Nexus, too. How many times do I have to die before it traps my Soul!?

Thank you for keeping this game trainer/cheat free. even though some people are bound to do it anyways, I am very happy some effort is being made to keep the fun of the game alive.
