I'm at the Witch Hunters building after leaving the Sanctuary. I've defeated all the enemies inside, I exit the building, and the local priest and villagers start a dialogue where I have no choice but to defend myself.
That's fine, but after that there's no additional dialogue and no way to exit that area.
Re-entering the Witch Hunters building and then re-exiting respawns the priest and villagers, but no combat ensues.

I've double-checked file placement, and everything checks out.

From what I can see in the tools, the area transition should be on the ground to the left of the area entry path and not through conversation.  It is supposed to have a map note "To the elves" which might be triggered to appear.  Might be a one-off script glitch, not as common in NWN2 as NWN, there might be hostile folk still around or inside holding up some trigger though these are very small areas.  If the transition is not active might want to replay the whole area, and I have seen the whole NWN2 engine mess up and require a full game restart locating an UN-corrupted save to correct.

Ok, the story is mostly enjoyable, but combat is an absolute grind fest like i've never seen before. OP, you don't have to overpower every encounter to the point i die like 50 times just to defeat a small group of irelevant mooks. It's not even really challenging, since i can just respawn with full health over and over. It's just frustrating, i really want to see the story trough to the end but my god is it annoying to go trough those stretches between story bits.

Just finished this campaign, I've chosen "light side" and now I'm going to play this again to see what happens if I choose dark one.
Interesting story, a lot of funny moments. Plot twist in the middle of the game gave me a lot of emotions.

I've never have gone dark side in any of Tsongo's campaigns, his storytelling hits my favorite playstyle (and funny bone) on the light side.  Not an open world, do whatever you want kind of thing, took the warning there to heart.  Be sure and try his other campaigns, there is a new version of Serene here too.

I'm stuck also.  I can't find a trigger that will get me past that second area.  I've cleared the goblin caves.  Rescued the horse.  Couldn't get into the sarcophagus.  I've gone back to Tanyon, but no one has anything more of significance to say to me.  The marker labeled Forest Road just says: "Nothing down this way yet."

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

All I can think of is you may be missing the quest to check on the lost patrol, or did not rest up on the site of the memorial for some trigger.  Better advice might be from Tsongo who is now active over on neverwintervault.org ask in: https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/fairy-tale

Sorry to anybody that got stuck and I wasn't here I don't come here often but got pointed in this direction as someone was having issues with the goblin caves and it appears they are not alone. So here is what should happen..

You go in the caves kill all the goblins and the bosses of the grave robbing enterprise, this will update your journal, if this doesn't happen then console this..

      rs ga_journal("patrol",3,1,0,0,)

You will also need to find a sarcophagus nearby in the caves and touching/using it should start a conversation which will update your journal, if this doesn't happen then console this..

      rs ga_journal("betrayed",2,1,0,0,)

Something's going on with the journal not updating and that blocks your progress and ability to travel to the next area or get different reactions in town. Sorry about that and I hope this helps anybody that gets stuck in the future.

Lost me with the gnomes, maybe goblins? The lost patrol is located below a ruin in the next area, called forest road in the tools, as is the big trigger fight chance with some unicorn hunters. Return to town with your horse, news of the patrol, and then visit the inn to move the story.

I'm stuck at a weird glitch. I'm in Sanctuary and have gone through all the dialog with Ashley and Fern and rested. When trying to leave, I get the dialog with Fern and reply with Lead on Fern, the module appears to try to load the next scene then stops and leaves me stuck in front of the statue with NWN2 in a frozen state. Nothing is clickable and I can't access the statue again. I've reloaded several times and tried going back to my previous save in the tunnels and running through the entire sanctuary dialog again. The result is the same. Is there a way to force load the next scene?

Only thing I can think of is to be sure the elves.mod is in the modules directory and not corrupt, I think that module tries to load there, but I don't have a save close by or time to check.

After making time to look in the tools, sanctuary is the last area in "The Beginning" module, the campaign downloads in three parts due to the module size, so check that all eight modules are present.

Thanks Ralebeau that was the issue. I hadn't realized there were more modules needed to be in place.

    Wha... buh... duh...

SHE WAS RIGHT THERE ALL ALONG!
Srsly, how did I miss that? I plowed through the entire village a dozen times desperately trying to find someone who would talk to me, and pressed the Highlight button like a stroboscope.

Alright mate, thanks for the heads-up, I'd probably _never_ have found her.

Hmm, Dryad in the pond... okay I'll see if I can find one. I already battled my way to the point where I spotted my first Wyvern. But honestly the battles on this island have been _terribly_ annoying. I am no NWN2 noob, been playing that game time and again for 10 years now or so and know my 3.5 character optimization, but the tedious - and very hard, due to inferior gear compared to what NWN2 expects - grindfests these overland maps devolve into got me this close to godmoding the rest of the campaign.
    /rant off

On the plus side, the story as such is lovely, which is the reason why I even consider godmoding instead of just abandoning the module.

    Anyway thanks for the pointer!

    Edit:
Now inside the mountain; no Nymph yet. This time round the encounters  (Darklings) are totally trivial; they can barely hit me or penetrate my DR (unless they flank me when my Concealment buffs are expired). But again, there are loads and loads and loads of them. By my reckoning I killed 72 of them so far and I'm not even done with this floor. Did I mention this was tedious? Meh, sorry for bitching and moaning but spamming a hundred copies of the same opponent isn't good encounter design. -.-

Edit 2: done with the entire mountain, talked to the Dragons, done with the Island, still haven't found that pond or a Dryad.

The dryad is in the pond just in front of the witch back at the village. Sorry I didn't give that location earlier, I missed her as well on my very first play while drooling over the smiths goods. Use one of the fast travels between areas and check her out.

Little help, please... I'm kinda soft-stuck.

I am now on that secret island where a Wise Woman wants to send me into the jungle.

    Spoiler:
    Show

There's that vendor golem that offers all kinds of magic weapons for 1 Gold apiece...
...but since I was stripped back in the palace, I still have 0 gold!

Nobody will buy anything off me. I have tons of gems and weapons and magic stuff but the only vendor simply doesn't buy anything. The Wizard and Beldame don't even talk to me anymore.

On the way to the village I bypassed most of the Guardians using Invisibility because I wanted to avoid unnecessary bloodshed (just like I did with the Elves before), but in my search for gold I did enter the cave and killed their top level shamans. They dropped a bunch of gems, but not  single gold piece.

Is the entire shop just a single giant tease or what? Or do I have to kill and loot a particular group of Guardians?

It will be a while before I get back to replay this campaign, but as I recall the jungle is right up the steps between her and the golem smith. The rapid travel option will be good once clear of the jungle. The trick here is to trade with the dryad in the pond and get money for her stuff and the stuff the smith sells so cheap.

I'm sorry but I think I'm stuck at the very beginning. How do you get access to the forest road. Do I need to finish the "Missing Patrol" side quest? If so, how do I finish it?

    Edit: Nevermind

Good that you found your way through, Tsongo does not stop by any more though I should have been by earlier as well. I can try to help if needed, and if my memory serves up an answer. I have to replay this 2-3 times a year, it is just that much fun for me. While not to every taste on the evil side of role-play, Tsongo's three mods are in my top 10 of NWN2 and above the OC as well.
