I might just uncomment the sling bullet lines then, at least in my own copy of the script. My next module is halfling-oriented, and I've created my own version of the Warsling Sniper prestige class, so I may as well make it even more halfling-friendly.
It's a pity the visual effect in the game shows the 'bullet' (it looks more like a fist-sized rock!) bouncing off targets onto the ground.
Actually, sling bullets *can* penetrate pretty deep indeed - they're a lot like musket balls in many respects. Roman military doctors actually had a specialised tool for extracting the buggers, AFAIK. (Of course your average adventuring party probably *won't* be carrying such gear, so recovering the bullets from dead enemies would then require some impromptu dissection...)
