As of now, consider this mod finished and not subject to further changes.

I created this mod specifically for myself, but I thought maybe other people would enjoy it too, so, later, I decided to share. That being said, this mod's purpose is not to please everyone, it only strives to make the game more interesting, engaging and challenging.

If you don't wanna see bonus cars (police cars, traffic, etc) in the car lot, do this: Open up NFSMWExtraOptionsSettings.ini from the scripts folder and change the line "ShowAllCarsInFE = 1" from 1 to 0.

    PRO TIP
This is valid for the vanilla game as well:
Set your game to run at 60 FPS max, otherwise your game will behave in a glitchy way on hardware that supports more than 60hz. I suggest you to use RivaTuner for capping the fps, rather than nVidia control panel or the AMD software.

    FAQ:

Q: I, personally, find X aspect of the mod too difficult/grindy/insert whatever reason here. Will you release another version of the mod that addresses these personal issues of mine?

A: Sorry, alternative versions of the mod won't be released. In case you want to tweak things yourself, you can find instructions on how to do that lying around in this thread.

Amazing mod, simply amazing and it finally makes me feel beatable. But i have a question, the cars that are added to lap/elimination races are transparent with some black parts on them, it ain't game breaking and i dont mind it but i was just curious if theres a way to fix that?

The thing is I don't have that problem, so I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. But it sounds like a memory related issue.

How much RAM and VRAM do you have?
Have you tried using the 4GB patch?
Do you use any other mods? If so, try removing them and test to see if the issue is gone.

      Don't worry, I don't mind the questions.
Your PC resources may be a bit too low, but you should give the 4GB patch a try still. Just do an internet search for "4GB patch" and the first website you come across is it. After you download it, use to exe file to patch your speed.exe.

Ok so this is how it went:
-tried the 4GB patch, didn't work
-tried a fresh no mods install w the 4GB patch, didn't work
-i tried with HUD/Widescreen Fixes and 4GB patch but i also installed the extra options mod(hopefully it ain't a problem that i mentioned it) and in the  "NFSMWExtraOptionsSettings" configuration file i have changed the command "CarSkinFix" command from 0 to 1 and now the added opponents have the skins on.
I thought to write it all since maybe someone else will have the same problem so it might help, i'm not sure if the 4GB patch is necessary but it doesn't hurt to have it installed. Thank you very much for your help and again sorry to bother and for eating ur time

Oh, I forgot about the "CarSkinFix" thing. Thanks for the info.

For anyone downloading this in 2024, get the ExtOpts script from the github page, don't use the one bundled with this. The version bundled with this is outdated and missing a number of options.

I would like to find a way to reduce the Escape Cooldown, since I think it's a bit too brief for me, now into the results of this overhaul: Damn, if it is unfair it's because it wants to make me better indeed, is not my first time trying hardcore modes on games by mods. This indeed made me repeat many races before even reaching #13 place in the Blacklist, but at least it's more challenging, forces me to learn how the performance window works, to farm cash and tune the perfect car or best one available for the current race I'm struggling, even I have to manage which cars are best tuned some way, and yes I never did this before since I only played MW 2012 and Burnout so far. Well, indeed it makes the game longer, but so is the joy, first time I couldn't engage by how easy the races were, now every time I'm praying no car jumps out of a corner.

I liked the mod and only wish I could tune up some minor details on my own, but I will look into it later. Maybe not everyone likes more random races and stuff, but I get to enjoy the progress on this. In my case, I wish the cop were less resilient.

For new players, BE ADVISED, this is not for people without patience neither strong will.

If you want to take into a different and less forgiving approach of the game, be welcome to try it, as I can confirm I had insane reactions to some frustrating moments. On another note, the music will indeed fit more as you finally manage to beat them all in the race.

I know you said not recommend other mods, can i add cars to the game from https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfsmw/?page=5&

I replayed game like 50 times never added any cars because there were not many and game was already perfect... But now i got mood for some new cars!

Perfect launch never was useful, even perfectly launch without releasing throttle after and same sonny is like 20 m in front of me. Even i bought both engine and transmission (tho nut sure opponents level up with it). I always found it coinflippy, it seems that it almost does nothing! It is not big deal just wondered how this works...

Oh no!!! I alt+tabbed and game crashed now at start i run it again and it crashed even faster and again and it crashed again even faster i capped fps in NVCP i try riva, but wtf. ALt+tab is buggy unfortunately, but game now won't even start WTFFF

and now it launches again after some time, LOL just matrix fuckign with me

It's a false positive. The file has been manually checked by the Nexus staff, as you can see right next to it (blue checkmark).

Has anyone been able to integrate this with Redux? It's the last missing piece of the puzzle.

Did not play with the mod for too long, but one issue I had so far has been bosses. I only did first 3 so far, 14th was easy; 13th was much faster than my current car (full upgraded from 15th boss) and if he happend to overtake me at any given time, he would disappear into far distance in the matter of seconds. Like, 250m+ away. But, it was still doable to keep him behind from start.

However, first (15th) boss was just an imposibility. After around 1.5 hours of repeating first of the two races, I gave up and loaded back up vanila to win. The only two times out of 30+ races i had that could be won were when boss crashed heavily at least once and had multiple slow-downs for traffic; or had 2 major crashes. Those two were lost for my mistakes (i crashed or bumpred too); but even with a near-perfect run from me (no crashes, no bumping into barriers) i still lost by a few seconds to boss. With fully upgraded car! Overtaking him from start was impossible, his acceleration is way ahead of yours at this point, which is also a big problem cause right before the finish line you have a lot of big turns. And at those turns he overtakes you easily.

Toolboths have not been a problem so far. They are actually quite good source of income.

Update on Toolboths: once they started to feature city roads, they became much harder.
Basically, in order to win the race you have to succeed in everything listed below:
      1) Have fully upgraded best available car
      2) Never bump into npc car and lose speed
      3) You can only fail few turns, not more than 3. All others have to be nailed perfectly. Perhaps if you fail turns "lightly" you will survive more than 3, but I dont think anything more than 6 is winnable.

Considering that traffic has been increased by a lot, it may take you few dozens of retries to win one race. And unlike normal races when you can expect opponents to fail somewhere on traffic too and compensate you for your own fail; Toolboth does not allow that. You either nail the race, or keep losing.

All in all, it does bring the feeling of actual real-life racing. Make one mistake and its likely game over.

Well, sorry you're having a hard time. But you have to keep in mind that this mod is presented as mainly having the goal of increasing the difficulty. The mod is tailored around my average skill level at the time I made it. If I hop into the game right now, I'd probably have a very hard time, because I haven't played in a while.

That being said, it's most likely not the kind of mod you can just pick up and play from time to time expecting to perform good, if you don't have the possibility and/or will to invest into the necessary time required to get better at it.

This mod isn't that great and it's creator seems to misunderstand that more isn't always harder.

I'll give the mod credit where it's due, the AI does seem legitimately consistent and is noticeably faster. You cannot bullshit your way out of massive mistakes during actual AI races. This is where the so-called "difficulty" ends.

Jacking up the blacklist requirements is pointless. It serves no purpose other than to drag the game out. This game is legendary, but if there's any valid criticism against the game, it's that it's too long. This is not difficulty, it's padding. Same with the with crazy amount of AI in races now (up to 15 in some) but that's neither here nor there and simply makes races more chaotic than difficult.

I can forgive that, but I can't forgive the absolute lack of challenge the police present in a so-called "overhaul" mod. I was expecting something along the lines of Carbon Redux, where police are extremely aggressive and their vehicles weigh much more. Roadblocks must be dodged as much as possible, police will brake check you as much as possible. During races things can get extremely hectic, where even AI will get busted. Busts were consistent and genuinely made me lose cars to the impound system. I got busted soley once, and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

But even that isn't the most annoying thing.

There is one thing that is made harder, and it's the tollbooth races. They are not enjoyable whatsoever. Using tuned, fully upgraded cars that are the best you can currently buy, on top of a flawless run where no momentum is needlessly lost, and maybe you'll finish with a second to spare. I could get by that, but like every other mode, traffic is unscripted and cranked up to 11. You can't just play the same trial over and over again memorizing every corner, some runs you'll be pummeled by a semitruck that was around a blind corner you had no hope of seeing. Traffic doesn't even seem to react to you like how it does in the base game. Sometimes it feels like they'll actively swerve into you.

Tollbooths made me quit my current playthrough. I gave up on Ming. They are not enjoyable and I was dreading every single time I had to do one. If I wanted to repetitively run the same series of corners over and over trying to achieve a near impossible time, I'd be playing Gran Turismo. And that game doesn't even pester you with traffic.

First and foremost: this mod is a completely free, non-mandatory product made out of love for this game. Please treat it as such.

"This mod isn't that great and it's creator seems to misunderstand that more isn't always harder."

      • If I was some sort of programming black wizard I would've made the game more challenging through other means, like fundamentally modifying the way AI works and such, but I'm not. I did what I could with the tools and limited knowledge I had. I'm sorry it's not up to your expectations. Everything is written into the mod's description page, tho, so that people know what to expect.

    Hi there,
first of all, Thank You - sincerely!

This brings back some childhood memories but with the challenging touch that a lot of us probably craved.
I wanted to ask: Is there a way to combine this with the NFS MOST WANTED REDUX V3 (by KryZee). I'm enjoying the graphics tweaks and the additional cars, but I'd really like to integrate this overhaul mod into that redux. If there's any way to do it or if you could help me with a brief tutorial, I'd really know to appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, and again: Great Work!

      Hello, glad you like it.
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that mod. I've also moved on from modding this game, and modding in general, actually. So, I can't really help, sorry. What I did while creating this mod was modify different values inside VltEd, I have no experience with other modding tools for this game.

Zero zabawy. Ci pierwsi byli lepsi.

Ogólnie moda polecam bo jest spoko. Ale do tych czasów stary. 5 sekund. Bo zazwyczaj w przedziale 3-5 sekund byłem spóźniony na ostatnim punktcie kontrolnym.

Pisze w swoim języku bo ten czasy doprowadziły mnie na skraj załamania nerwowego. 12 godzin robić 3 wyścigi typu PUNKT KONTROLNY? Jaja sobie robisz? Najlepsza część gry została zepsuta. Bo same czasy nie były by problemem gdyby nie ociężałość i ilość ruchu ulicznego.

Wiem że nie zmienisz moda ale daje Ci info że TO NIE JEST WYZWANIE TYLKO IRYTOWANIE DLA KAżDEGO KTO CHCE ODROBINE PODBIĆ SOBIE ZABAWĘ Z GRY.

I love this mod, the tollbooths are so cool and I love having to avoid traffic cars instead of just not caring about them.

What about losing your car if you lose a blacklist race? I know sometimes blacklist events can be rubber bandy but it would make the stakes higher and fairer as if the blacklist person's put their car up why haven't we? Maybe it could only happen if you press continue after losing the last race of a blacklist idk

I also kind of wish I had less money haha, I'm only just past Earl tbf so I might change my tune when I get to ultimate upgrades but yeah rn I always have plenty of money and fully upgraded cars, so much so I'm planning on upgrading my lexus. Either less money would be cool or something like you automatically get the junkman performance upgrade and then just one marker to try and get the blacklist's car.

I'd like to learn how to try and implement these things myself but I'm not sure where to start haha. Cheers for the mod anyway!
